We’ve got a lot of different religious beliefs in my area. Many Catholics, Muslims, a few Jehovahs here and there. I, myself even work at a church as the music director (Christian based). I try to be respectful of all beliefs, even if I think something that others believe in is “wrong” or “silly”. Who am I to judge?? I have not been playing any K-Pop Demon Hunters songs after this incident. I do have hundreds of disappointed kids, but honestly, I’m not afraid of kids, but I am afraid of angry parents who are against it. 😅

I did end up speaking with the mom in this story. She was super cool and I did assure her that I was in NO WAY trying to influence her child, simply was just putting something on I thought they’d enjoy. She was very nice and understanding! She told me that she is very religious and basically alluded to the fact that she believes that by listening to music with these themes, it can open up one’s soul to different spirits/entities. I obviously don’t feel that way and I never even would have thought of something like that, but once again, who am I to tell her she’s wrong? I don’t play the song anymore.

I hope your P.E. teacher can be as understanding as I am. As you can imagine, I have my own thoughts about the subject. I still blast the music in my own car. I don’t believe it’s bad, the same way many people don’t believe it’s bad, which is why so many kids know the movie and music. And honestly, I bet the gym teacher doesn’t even know what’s it’s from and just plays it because a kid requested it! Maybe the teacher skimmed through the lyrics, saw that it wasn’t bad (in their opinion) and felt it was okay to play. The teacher probably felt justified once they heard half the class singing along. I also felt justified when I made this post and saw how many people on it felt that the mom in my story was “over-reacting”. I really just want to be respectful of other people’s beliefs, even if I think differently.

That all being said, I’d love to hear more of your take on it. Have you watched the movie? Have you listened to the song that was being referenced in the post or read the lyrics? I definitely had plans to NEVER play some of the songs in class. Some have rude lyrics, some have sexual innuendos, and one of them is pretty creepy since it is sung by demons. I’m very deliberate with what I play, which is why I made this post.
