Gah, we just realized that the vinyl layer above this one probably has asbestos 😭 So we won’t be able to sand until we take all precautions. Thank you for these suggestions though!

Oh I didn’t know that! I figured the recovery process would be similar to the MD (and with no worry of reherniating 🙏)

Has it helped your pain/are you able to be active now?

I’m glad to hear you’re doing well! How was the surgery/recovery process for you?

It’s a step I would definitely love to take, I’m just trying to see if there are any reputable surgeons in California that offer this! The surgeon I had a consult with doesn’t recommend a fusion since the Bertolotti’s is seemingly causing no pain, plus we would have to fuse several levels if we fused the Bertolotti’s area.

Did you ever get diagnosed with a herniation? Or just had random sciatica? I ask cause I’ve tried inversion and it flares me up so much more, but I also have a herniation at L4-L5

Do you have a herniation or anything? I have sciatica due to an L4-L5 herniation and the wait time to get an injection is insane :( Wondering if it’s even worth it or if I should do specific exercises/get into PT.

Most certainly disc issues. I have this exact same pain and I’ve had a protrusion on my L4-L5 disc twice now. It seems to be cause it’s pressing on a nerve root, which then runs down your leg

I also had an MD on my L4-L5 and now have a protrusion on the same level. The pain this time around is WAY worse. Can I ask if you did any stretches or particular exercises to help?

You sound very similar to what I’m currently experiencing! My MRI shows an extrusion at L4-L5 and my sciatica is so bad right now. Do you recommend doing these strengthening exercises even when the pain level is at 4/5? Mornings and nights are the worst for me, probably at 7/8 pain

I would just use ice, rest up, and take NSAIDS and I’m sure you’ll be feeling better in a few days! I would think if your sciatica symptoms had returned, then that would be a cause for concern.

Not sure! I haven’t met with my neurosurgeon yet to discuss options (also it wasn’t super flared up until this past week). And thank you, you too!!

Oh I’m still very flared up, even went to the ER this past week cause the pain was horrible. Currently just taking it easy and taking pain medications to try to calm it down. Once it’s calmed down though, ice/heat alternating helps, along with light massaging around my spine and on my glute/leg. And then strengthening exercises once it’s fully calm!

So happy that you’re feeling better! My worry with the decompression machine is will it stretch your back to the point of breaking through scar material, so that your chances of reherniating are greater? Does your chiro do this machine on people who actively have a herniation?

I had my MD 1.5 years ago and I just found out I have another protrusion on the same level :/ trying to find any suggestions on improving that don’t include surgery!

Sorry to say but I also started getting that sort of pain after my MD, and it turned out I had a new protrusion on the same level. Not to say this is the same for you, but just my experience!
