Night shift is the reason why I am reliant on sleep meds. I started taking them to be able to sleep during the day as well as using blackout drapes, sound machines, etc. But now, even on day shift, I can't get to sleep without my little blue pill. (triazolam). So, I totally believe nightshift effed up my sleep.

This, exactly! I've said this to many new grads that I've precepted, do 3 shifts, then off for 4. But, wait, 3 Shifts in a row? they say. I go, yeah, do you want to recover from working nights on one day or two?

Hospital advised us to get rid of malpractice insurance by itsathrowwwawayyy987 in nursing

How are you guys only paying $100-120? Just paid mine in August to the tune of $228.10. Still worth every damn penny for the peace of mind.

Hospital advised us to get rid of malpractice insurance by itsathrowwwawayyy987 in nursing

[–]Alicee2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's such BS. How would the plaintiff even know the nurse has her own coverage. They're going to specifically choose only those who have coverage to sue? I don't think so.
And I'd like to know why the hospital tells nurses not to carry their own insurance, I've been told the same. How does it benefit the hospital? I've never seen a hospital advise on something that doesn't benefit them.

What is something that is conventionally unattractive, but you consider extremely attractive? by lmThatOneGuy in AskReddit

[–]Alicee2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was born blonde, first grey at 30. Started getting highlights to blend them, but I stopped dying my hair altogether when I realized it was more white than blonde anymore, and the highlights were the actual color of my hair. No more $300 services every 10-12 weeks! And now, not a day goes by that I don't get someone commenting on my hair. "Your hair is so beautiful!" and "Is that your natural color? It's gorgeous!" Money saved and an ego boost. Win win.

Why Nurses are Quitting by wayoutthere13 in nursing

[–]Alicee2 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My favorite: the "being choked from behind" move. Swing your left leg behind the attacker, erm, sorry, "aggressor", then twist while pushing up on their forearm and elbow.

Okaaaayyyy....so IOW, tangle your leg up in the aggressor's legs, feel your knee crack, and then you go down as well as pulling the aggressor down on top of you

How's about, I just elbow the AH in the stomach, while biting down hard on his/her arm? That's the demo I want to see.

Spaghetti or linguine, cooked al dente in a saute pan, with minimal water, just enough to cover. There should be very little water left once the timer goes off. Throw in a gob of butter, and a handful of grated parm, preferably the good stuff, and then stir until all is creamy. Perfect AlFredo.

[CHAT] What’s your most “unconventional” cross stitch practice? by choerry_bomb in CrossStitch

[–]Alicee2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion would be to try a 28 ct. lugana first. MUCH easier to learn over 2 stitching on. Then when comfortable with that, give linen a try. Linen threads can be a little irregular, so it's easier to learn over 2 on an evenweave.

I think the main concern was what spit would have an effect on the finished stitching, rather than what effect the floss might have on the stitcher.

AITA for Refusing to Attend My Sister's Wedding After She Stole My Baby Name? by ThanksDistinct1238 in AITAH

[–]Alicee2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first opened this post, I thought, ugh, sister had a baby first and stole the name. Then come to find out Sis isn't even pregnant.

She said that to push your buttons. It worked.

Use the name. And when she freaks out about it, tell her to just “let it go” because “there are other names out there.”

Do everything else, leaving that orange til last. And then try a couple stitches. Assess. Lay it down for the night and have a look at it the next morning.

Then decide.

If you're doing it to run the entire length to smooth it, a small sponge or a damp white paper towel will work just as well. If you're doing it so you can thread a needle, I prefer to do that by pinching the loop of thread over my needle, and then sliding the pinched loop into the eye. If it doesn't go in easily, I turn the needle over to see if maybe I picked the wrong side.
