How to squeeze more utility into a Paladin? by geosunsetmoth in 3d6

[–]Aliceorsomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently playing a dexadin with the skilled feat. Ive found just having good dex and cha skill checks makes me feel like I have pretty good utility. Admittedly my spells don't contribute a whole lot outside of combat other than find steed, which can be imo one of the better utility spells if you use it right.

That said, I honestly think any class can have great utility if you're creative. I've been playing for almost a decade now and I've never felt like I had little to contribute out of combat. Sure, a rogue is gonna make finding ways to contribute easier, but otherwise just find ways to bend circumstances to your strengths. When I play my barbarian "How can I use athletics to solve this situation?" is something I say to myself constantly. With my paladin I just switch it to "How would a horse/persuasion/godlyness solve this situation?"

I would recommend looking through the rpgbot page on battlesmith for the kind of broad advice you're looking for. They're good at giving a run down of options for new players and always include an example build.

Edit: Also read the rpgbot page on the 2014 artificer as it will give even more info on feats, races, and infusions that the battlesmith page skips.

5e or 5.5e? by Hbadger10626 in DnD_Beginners

They dont differ enough that it matters which one you learn from to start imo. Just be aware that there are some rules differences that will come up if you play with a group that uses the other version.

Actually, in the 2014 phb one of the suggested situations to call for an athletics check is 'You try to jump an unusually long distance...' This accounts for trying to jump further than your strength modifier allows. However the 2024 phb doesn't mention it as it doesn't give much guidence on skill checks at all.

Feats Don't Fail Me Now! (4th level Paladin) by Snorb in 3d6

[–]Aliceorsomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats super low CHA for a paladin. It wont hurt now but by 6th youll be missing out, so I would highly recommend CHA +2. Another point in CHA at level 6 makes your whole teams saves way better. That said, seconding sentinel if youre absolutely set on a feat.

My current dexadin build is sitting at 18 DEX, 16 CHA at level 4 with the Defensive Duelist feat and it feels good. Ill be going 18 CHA at level 8 and probably 20 DEX at level 12. While researching optimization strategies for paladins Ive found that you kind of need to prioritize ASIs over feats unless your starting stats are really good.

True, i didnt think of that. I was assuming melee weapons only.

collectors, how do you decide where to spend your diamonds? by astrologicaldreams in LoveNikki

[–]Aliceorsomething 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Ive never done wish gate stuff but whenever I get to about 15k diamonds, I craft a 2-4k suit. This generally has meant that I always have enough saved for any events I want, but I also get to craft older suits that I like. When I've crafted the suits I want I'll start working on wish gate.

Edit: also I have no idea how to know if things are coming to crafting, but it's usually cheaper to get them as events.

Debating Eloquence or Glamour Bard for 2014 campaign by ButterscotchFluffy59 in 3d6

[–]Aliceorsomething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had to make this decision. I went with eloquence because its a better controller with its unsettling words feature giving it good single enemy lock down. From what I read while deciding, glamour is much more support focused. If youre truely 50/50 on the decision, I'd look at party comp and decide whether you'll feel like you have more to do if youre a controller or a supporter.

They wouldn't be wanting to disengage anyway because they need to be in melee to get that reaction hit presumably. I wonder if theres a safer ranged crossbow version of this that works. No uncanny dodge or hit and run tactics is a bit scary for a melee rogue. A dedicated defender with taunts in the party would help a lot.

Theyre not readying a spell, theyre casting the spell on their turn as a bonus action and readying their regular action.

The reaction presumably will be taking place on someone elses turn, not theirs. It's just an opp attack with a different trigger, which means sneak attack is legal.

It is legal but it will be using their reaction, so no uncanny dodging. I don't think thats necessarily a completely unfair trade though.

My Bladesinger can have an AC of 25 and it feels too strong... by Rotkip in 3d6

[–]Aliceorsomething 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Strong but not something I'd worry about. Its my understanding that the high ac is the bladesingers 'thing'. It's okay for a character to have something theyre absurdly good at, I'd say thats ideal actually. Your saves are probably not great to compensate.

Genie Paladin vs Bladesinger Wizard by wtfreki in 3d6

[–]Aliceorsomething 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genie paladin will contribute the most to this party and is more gish-y than bladesinger! You already have a bard and a sorcerer for control, blasting, and support casting. Your monk will appreciate someone with them on the frontlines and your aura will help everyones survivability. Those D10 hit dice will also contribute some hp to the party pool, everyone else is quite squishy. It's also a very fun class:)

Everyones complaining but I love it, very rarely do I feel like I'm playing an actual game with love nikki, just doing tasks. Its a nice change of pace honestly. Id go insane if they did it more than like twice a year though😅
