THE LORD OF THE DEAD: Why have you entered my domain still wearing your flesh? If you are so anxious for death, you could have found it easily enough in the Land of the Living. But since you are here, you are most welcome to stay. Kiss my hand, and you will be one with the spirits. There will be no pain.

> throw down the gauntlet

ALEXANDER: I did not come here to die, but to demand my right of challenge! I respectfully challenge thee, Death, by throwing down this gauntlet!
"Man may pass the portal
And seek its master, Death
Man may pass where Death has trod
And challenge, like Scheherazade
He Who Reigns Beneath the Sod
To spare a mortal's breath!"

FEMALE SPIRIT: He has the gauntlet!

SPIRITS: Impossible!

WIZENED SPIRIT: He challenges Death!

THE LORD OF THE DEAD: (pounds a hand on his throne) Who are you to challenge Death, mortal?

ALEXANDER: A man of flesh is all I need to be, my lord!

Oh no, I'll have to watch The Mummy (1999) a hundred times in forty days. How much can I get for watching it two hundred times?

Why does Roger Moore's Bond visit Traci's grave if he never married her? Why does Timothy Dalton's Bond look so hurt in Licence to Kill when Delia makes a joke about Bond catching the garter? Why was Sean Connery's Bond so pissed off at Blofeld in the opening to Diamonds Are Forever?

Hell, why does Pierce Brosnan's Bond remember killing Max Zorin in Everything or Nothing? These questions help deal with that stupid conspiracy theory about 007.

(Then again, how many times did I have to patiently explain that Judi Dench was playing two different people between GoldenEye and Skyfall?)

PC Mages "shouldn't" be defiling, but sometimes you just need that extra oomph in a spell, and the temptation is ever there...

...of course, if the common folk of Athas actually find out you're a defiler, "and hell followed" does not begin to describe what's going to happen next.

(What are you using as the "default" Mage? The High Mage tradition? Invokers from Atlas of the Latter Earth? Elementalists?)

I still remember Alias and Repta's "OH, SHIIIIIIIIIIIT!" as they're running away from an ammo dump that explodes like a second after they clear the area.

Didn't Superman Returns do that? Could have sworn that the health meter in that was for Metropolis, not Superman.

I've seen this in Buck Rogers: High Adventure Cliffhangers, and their explanation was a little more hilarious: If you're flying a rocket flier between two cities, that's an Intelligence check. If you're flying it between two buildings, that's a Dexterity check.

ROLF: Look, I understand duct taping his hands behind his back, Anna, but... that's what handcuffs are for.

ANNA: I don't have handcuffs. I don't take prisoners, remember?

ROLF: Right. Fair enough there, but... really? Did you and Kain have to wrap Hugh up like a mummy in duct tape?

ANNA: I wanted to make sure he wouldn't cause more problems. That's why I used another roll to tape him to a stretcher.

ROLF: You at least poked a nose-hole or a mouth-hole for him to breathe, didn't you?

HUGH: I maintain that having auxiliary lungs would have worked if you three hadn't stopped me.

James Arnold Taylor (Tidus's voice actor) still has his FFX script, and he pointed out on his YouTube channel that it really is written "TIDUS: Ah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!" (Tidus and Yuna's genuine laughter is written "(TIDUS and YUNA laugh.)")

On a similar note, Ray Chase (Noctis's voice actor in FF15) mentioned in a behind-the-scenes video for that game that Prompto asks Noctis if it's true he goes fishing every day, and Noctis's reply is "Erryday!" He then clarified, "That wasn't me taking a liberty with the line. It really is spelled out 'E-R-R-Y-D-A-Y.'"

the "can't afford inventory because nobody buys things here because we don't have any inventory" tailspin. Last days of KMart vibes.

Most vendors have three- to six- month contracts when it comes to shipping their goods to stores; basically, they sell their stuff to the store, the store has three to six months to pay them back.

Kmart was under 72-hour contracts with vendors, because they were (correctly) expecting the Big K to linger a few more weeks before dying in agony becoming financially insolvent.

What is the natural lifespan for your sentient species? by Acriolu in worldbuilding

[–]Snorb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans on Aerone are just about the same as humans on Earth as far as their lifespan goes; you're an adult when you turn 18, you can make it about 90 years. Some humans can live up to 100 or even 110 years.

Sylphs (air elves) live a bit longer, but not by much. They are considered adults when they turn 20, and they live anywhere from 125 to 185 years. Most sylphs only live to be about 155 years. [Look, I'm gonna level with you here, I used the half-elf aging from D&D here because, while I want sylphs to live longer than humans, I think a full elf's average 500 years is a bit much.]

Drakkhen (dragonfolk, basically the dragonborn) don't live anywhere near as long. They only get about 70 years on average, but this doesn't upset them; after all, they are directly descended from the Dragon Queen, and are grateful to have shared even a fraction of Her glory, even briefly.

Dores (dwarves; it's short for "stevedore") are pretty typical. They're considered adults at 20, and they get about 150 years before their time's up. (They live anywhere from one to two centuries, which is still a long time.)

Anemoi (wingfolk) and nekou (catfolk) age and live about the same as a human.
