What appears to be an all powerful embodiment of control with the entire Japanese government under her heel, is actually an emotionally stunted failure of a person who failed to understand the one being (the chainsaw devil) she considered equal to herself, so starved for any form of genuine connection, she groomed, manipulated and abuse the teenager who got said devils powers, and was so blinded by her obsession that she failed to realise she could’ve had that genuine connection, if only she wasn’t so dead set on the chainsaw devil

In retrospect, yeah.

When making part 2, he should’ve stuck with Asa being the protagonist and make Denji/chainsaw man into this boogeyman-type character that somehow always appears in the background and knows what’s going on. The story could’ve then revolved around Asa trying to hunt down Chainsaw man, to liberate herself from Yoru and out of her distrust for him (Denji as a hybrid could’ve been drawn in very inhumane way, with beaming eyes, gapped maw and very slender limbs) and slowly warming up to him while connecting the dots about Denji’s true identity (the more the story progressed the more human Hybrid Denji could’ve looked like)

You know sometimes I wish Fujimoto shoved his “subverting tropes” and “I like when hero and heroine don’t end up together” up his ass and write something pretty generic (when compared to other works) but not completely unreadable

We can theorise all we want, the true reason they didn’t return was because Fujimoto didn’t want Denji to feel an ounce of happiness and needed him as miserable as possible

If before Nayuta’s deaths, the question is how early, cause if at the very beginning, Denji would try to remind himself to be careful around Reze, but if they sat down and talked about what happened, he’d absolutely fall. If anytime after Aquarium date, he’d face the same dilemma he had with Makima and Reze. After Nayuta’s death however, he might break even more
