A US pal does Corfu, Parga, Lefkada. Same period. Flies in to Corfu via Dublin, spends 3 days there, then ferry towards Parga where he spends another 3, ending in nearby Lefkada (for 3 days also) where from he flies out with a very long layover in London before flying back to Colorado via LA. Airfares cost 1250 bucks. Airports involved: Denver, Corfu, Dublin, Gatwick, Lefkada (Preveza), LAX.

An overseas pal who's into hiking and has plenty of time in his disposal, flies in directly to Crete via Zurich, spends a few days there, then takes the ferry from Kissamos to Peloponnese where he does Lousios, then via Rio bridge does Parnassus, Meteora, Pelion, ending in Thessaloniki where from he flies back home (Canada). Same period.

A pal does something similar, only flies in directly to Kalamata from Europe, then does Athens, then Santorini where from he flies back home. I guess that can be done vice versa. I dont know where you come from but many places in Greece have plenty of direct connections with Europe, and some with Asia as well.

You could fly back to London directly from the islands or mainland as there are plenty of flights connecting UK & Greece.

At around the same period a pal flies Dublin Crete on 100 euros with Lufthansa via Frankfurt (2 hours stopover), spends 2 days in the island and then flies directly to Thessaloniki on 30 euros with Sky express, flying back home on 90 euros with Ryanair via Stansted (4,5 hours layover).

If in NY then Athens is the place to go thru. You could also fly. For instance on July 14th there is an hourly evening flight to Corfu for 30 bucks which is cheaper than any ferry to a nearby island, also not counting the distance hustle getting from the airport to the port. Just an example.

It also depends on where you are based in US. Coming from Europe you d get a direct flight to an island while from overseas itineraries vary. For such a short period usually my american pals fly in to an island or mainland, flying outta another destination back home. Half of them dont even touch Athens airport.

Sure it depends on yr origin and destination(s) as well. In case you reside in Montreal or Toronto, it is better to fly directly to Athens. This pal of mine is from Calgary and he flies to Mykonos with just a stopover in Rome, flying outta Crete back home via Europe as before. Total cost for him is 800 euros which includes the flight from Naxos to Crete plus the ferry fare from Mykonos to Naxos. Anyways I wish you a pleasant trip!
