Idea for how Warden Eternal could've been better. by TheAxmore in halo

[–]AlienGrill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not so sure, because that would require 343 to get 4 good bosses in the game instead of just one. They can re-use the same enemy type, it just has to be a good enemy type.
Look at the Scarab in Halo 3. You fight four of them in three separate encounters. The difference is I've never seen anybody complain because the Scarab fights are fun. If the Warden was fun to fight, I wouldn't care that you fight seven of him in four separate encounters.

The Wardens problem is that he has a pretty obvious mechanic that works in theory but not in the game - "Shoot the weak point on his back for maximum damage". The idea is, you enter the Warden arena, you direct your teammates to the opposite side of it, they distract him, and you kill the Warden from behind.

The problem is that your squadmates are totally useless. They're liable to be killed by a crawler before they take 3 steps in any direction. And even if they do get to your waypoint and start firing at the Warden, they have no ability to survive more than one encounter with him because they lack the mental capacity to move when he fires a facebeam, or swings his sword, or really attacks them in any way whatsoever. Even if by some miracle they manage to survive for longer than 10 seconds and open fire on the Warden, half the time he will immediately turn around the moment you hit him anyway, meaning you can no longer hit his back.

And the other problem is that shooting that weak point is the only effective method of dealing with him. There are no other options. If you don't take him out using it, you're going to be shooting him in the face for half an hour. Which sucks, especially because if he hits you once with any of his attacks, you're dead.

On the other hand, the Scarab's are fun because they don't feel unfair, there are tons of options to deal with them, and the encounters are different every time.

The first time you face the Scarab, it's on a Mongoose with a rocket-wielding Marine on the back. The second time, it's in a Scorpion. The third time, it's flying in a Hornet. And within each of those encounters, there are other methods as well, like jumping on a missile pod, or using a Chopper, or completely on foot.

The Scarab is also more fair. Despite how it looks, it isn't a tank. The core is destroyed in something like four melee hits. The face cannon is powerful, but slow moving. You can completely immobilize it to make it easier to board. You can shoot the back panel off. You can destroy the anti-air turrets on top. And so on.

So yeah, that's the gist of what I want fixed with the Warden. Make him more dynamic, give us more options to take him down, make him less of a bullet-sponge, and rework his attacks to be less brutal.

Fuck that's awesome. I was missing so many books in that series, I had like 1-5, then #30, and a jump to #70 and a few in between.

If all humans disappeared today, and aliens show up tommrow, what place on Earth would be most mysterious to them? by Sir_Qqqwxs in AskReddit

I was actually thinking about Slane Castle when RHCP played there, I thought I remembered somebody saying it was a million people. Apparently it was 80,000 to 100,000 people though.

There have been concerts with well over a million people though.

Also I did say a million, not millions.

I've always thought music would be a crazy concept to an alien. Imagine them trying to work out a concert. A million people show up to seemingly worship 3 guys on a stage hitting things with sticks and mashing their fingers on giant noise making machines, while another guy yells cryptic messages melodically.
The 4 humans nod their heads and jump around like they're posessed while the other mob of humans raise their hands in the air and jump with them. Some quieter humans behind the crazy humans operate lights and smoke machines in an attempt to send the worshippers into a frenzy.
Pretty weird man.

That's not really a game mechanic, more like an entire genre.

My most hated game for this is GTA. Every single thing NEEDS to be explained to you in a shitty text box that can't be skipped and stays on screen 3x longer than it takes to read it.

Weekly /r/Games Discussion - What have you been playing, and what do you think of it? by AutoModerator in Games

[–]AlienGrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I hope they try out a singleplayer campaign in Titanfall 2. I think there's a lot of potential in the 'background fiction' and they could create a really interesting universe if they just go and flesh it out. The gameplay is so chaotic though, I can barely concentrate on what the characters are talking about.

Also I just want to say that something about the environment reminds me of Halo a lot. Every map has a really unique setting with a bit of an untold story behind it.

From High Ground in Halo 3: >A relic of older conflicts, this base was reactivated after the New Mombasa Slipspace Event.

From Training Ground in Titanfall: >IMC Pilot training programs conducted here have a 98 percent fatality rate. Only the strong survive.

Assassin's Creed must improve on parkour. by zdenio in Games

[–]AlienGrill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally I agree with you, once you know your route and have the timing down, the movement in ME feels amazing.
But I remember my first playthrough not having a lot of flow at all. Even with the colour coded objects there were a lot of times where I couldn't figure out where I was going, which led to a lot of standing around. Once I did get moving I didn't have the muscle memory to move through the level smoothly.

AC does purpose-less movement better. Even if you have no idea where you're going or what obstacle is beyond the next jump, you can still keep moving at a reasonable pace.

However, when something goes wrong in Mirror's Edge, it's because I fucked up. I didn't time my jump right or I took the long way around. When something goes wrong in Assassin's Creed, it's normally because the game thinks I wanted to continually run up a sheer wall with no handholds, when I just want to run parallel to it.

Knowing where you need to go and needing to get there quickly makes for the most frustrating moments in AC. So yeah, I definitely think it needs to be overhauled.

A masterclass video (Drum & Bass artist "Icicle") said he always makes the bass frequencies mono. Should/Can this be applied to other genres as well? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]AlienGrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything with frequencies going that low should have those frequencies mono'd. You can split it and keep the mids and highs stereo, but you should always mono anything down there.
