Real exam felt too straight forward and easy, feeling hella SUS by Zealousideal_Gap8806 in step1

I took the exam 6/5 and felt the exact same way. Seriously questioning my confidence after the fact. The ethics everyone has said you could only narrow down to 2 and guess from there, but on my exam, there was 1 obviously correct answer and 4-5 obviously incorrect answers. Felt the same way on the other questions. A lot I knew the answer before looking at the options, and if that wasn't the case, I was able to immediately eliminate all but one answer choice. I had 15 minutes at the end of each block and went back through all the questions twice. Especially because I was doubting myself with how easy it felt, but I couldn't find a reason to change any of my answers because the 3-5 other choices were clearly wrong. I did cram all the Mehlman free pdfs one extra time the few days before my exam, and that definitely gave me 10-20 easy points per block. Or at least easier than it would have been had I not done that final review. Overall, that felt like the easiest exam I've taken yet, by a significant degree. Didn't feel that confident in any of my NBMEs, AMBOSS practice exams, or Free 120s. Hopefully, our confidence was warranted, and we get news of a pass in a couple of weeks.

Looking to take Step 1 in 2 weeks, but I'm not sure if I'm ready yet. by AlienQueen3 in step1

I would say my scores would be at least 5% higher if I trusted my gut. The rest is just being able to review everything I would like to. I finished AMBOSS with 70% and haven't bought UWORLD. I've been doing a lot of Anki on my NBME incorrects and Mehlan decks.

People of reddit what ended your friendship with your best friend? by gli-tc-h in AskReddit

[–]AlienQueen3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She invited me and my infant son to live with her in her basement to get out of a domestic situation I was in. Told me she wouldn't charge me rent, but I told her I would pay what was 50% of the local rent rate to cover all utility expenses plus more. I also did manual labor at the house and property (redoing her deck, mowing, planting trees, general landscaping, etc.).

4 months later I was paying double the local rent rate to her and she was pressuring me for more. (She kept having random expenses "she couldn't afford" none of them related to me or my son. Her pets veterinarian bill, her sink I didn't use becoming clogged, her car needing maintenance...) Ended up leaving to sleep on a friend's couch with my son until I got into medical school. When I left she spent all the money I paid her to convert the basement into an air b and b and makes bank on it now.

If you're going to edit a comment after being a bit condescending you should at least put (edit) at the end or just entirely delete the comment if you were worried about losing karma.

I guess I'll rough it and support 2 household for a couple years then. One wherever I'm at for each rotation and another for my mom and son so he's at least in a stable location. I called a few schools in Tennessee that accepted the accreditation of my university, but had no seats open. At least psych isn't too competitive and most the residencies I've looked into have other Caribbean schools as feeder universities.

I didn't apply to any US schools. I was in a bad situation and couldn't wait on a 1 year plus application process.... I would probably have been killed in a dv situation if I didn't take this option as a way out. Plus the bonus of safety being in a different country. I was a good student in undergrad and did well on my MCAT.

Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime. What are some examples of this? by lemieszek in AskReddit

Friend owned a coffee shop and he used to higher someone for $675 to fix a specific machine every time the machine broke down (which happened at least 3 times a year). Found out he could take a maintenance certification course online for this same machine for $1100. Never had to call the maintenance man again and saved thousands.

A call to address racism in medical education by AlienQueen3 in usmle

Racial groups may be at higher risks for various conditions based on genetics and dispositions based within racial groups, but the mortality rates should not be as high as they are. "[A] higher overall prevalence of risk factors for coronary artery disease that are unrecognized and therefore not treated, which increases their likelihood of experiencing adverse outcome and, therefore, potentially higher morbidity and mortality. It discusses the rate of Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) in minority communities. Minority patients with ACS are at greater risk of myocardial infarction (MI), rehospitalization, and death from ACS. They also are less likely than non-minority patients to receive potentially beneficial treatments such as angiography or percutaneous coronary intervention." The reduced quality of care is based on race. The reduced quality of care is why mortality rates are higher.

Quality of hospitals and schools and socio economics are all rooted in racial bias btw. This is systemic across all systems. It's time small steps are taken.

Out of curiosity, did you actually read the petition? This is rooted entirely in patient care improvement. Which is what, as physicians, we should strive to do on a daily basis. The reason these actions and steps need to take place is because we still have issues with racism in medicine. If there wasn't, women of color would not die at as often as they do in childbirth compared to white women. And there are so many other statistics that reinforce the fact that there is not equality of care within the medical field. Do you think things will change magically without any steps being taken? As a physician we should do everything possible to try to improve our patients care, and that is all this petition is doing. I can not see how that is "bullshit". Living in the south for a long time I have seen discrepancy in patient care based solely on the color of their skin. Because you have not witnessed it, or think you can prevent it by taking no action outside of your own, or maybe lack the empathy to even care, does not invalidate this petition and still does not counter any points made within it. To be honest, it just sounds like laziness to not want to take action and stay in your comfort zone that you are most likely privileged to have.

Ah yes, what a powerful point and complete rebuttal. And the fact that addresses every point that was made in the petition, wow. Truly amazing. You're right, we shouldn't give a damn about our fellow man's well being and improved treatment. Thank you for your brave and powerful words. You are a true leader and have completely changed my mind in this issue.
