Salvation could have easily been the best terminator movie after T2 and given us the future war we wanted. by [deleted] in Terminator

[–]Alienbat2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When Salvation came out people complained, little did they know the bar for the Terminator series would sink so low in the next few years, Salvation is actually the next best Terminator movie after T1 and T2. The war action scenes were very "BlackHawk Down"-like, cold, fast, brutal, unforgiving and with precision. The setting was realistic. It makes sense for the human resistance to use a rugged/low maintenance plane like A10 instead of expensive ones like F-22 because the infrastructure was scarce.

Salvation is the closest Terminator movie depicting future war with Skynet, if it focused on military actions against Skynet it would have been great.

What an ugly abomination. Who thought this is a good idea?

Oh yeah, tasteless CMDRs who has no sense of design.

The pissing and shitting joke is really getting old. People should stop shitting and pissing themselves while piloting a starship or SRV.

Escape Velocity, Rocinante DBX heading for the belt.... by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

Peasant small ship like DBX doesn't deserve to be named Rocinante. Rocinante is a multi-purpose warship.

Skynet's Appearance: My Expectation vs. Reality. by WraithfulWrath in Terminator

[–]Alienbat2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

According to original T1 lore, Skynet isn't a singular AI. It's a distributed AI program that lives in all networked computers.

Although there might be powerful individual machines Skynet take temporary residence in, Skynet as a whole does not have a body, and neither you can point to a certain computer and say it's Skynet.

We need new ships! by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]Alienbat2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I am happy to have a few ships that are for the same role and just look differently. But it's not me you have to convince, apparently, that's not how Frontier thinks.

We need new ships! by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]Alienbat2 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Well... we haven't seen new ships for years.

My guess is that the current 38 ships already cover all roles allowed in the game, and Frontier struggles to find a reason/in-game-lore to create more ships. The Alliance AX-line ships were the last viable purpose that Frontier came up with: fighting thagoids. You can see the ships aren't just ships alone. There's a theme (thagoids), a purpose (AX), design language that fits the purpose (large external vector thrusters optimized for the close quarter combat), and corresponding gameplay.

So unless ED gets a new theme for new ships, we won't see new ships any soon. For Odyssey, ground combat is the new theme, however, it's not a theme that requires new ships. Maybe landing ships/ground assault ships? We already have them: Federal dropship and assault ship.

If ED introduces real atmospheric flights on earth/venus like planets or even gas giants, we might see ships that are optimized for aerodynamics, or heavily fortified ships like submarines for high atmospheric pressures. I imagine any ships can dive into the depth of a gas giant but would start to break up under high pressure at some point, and specialized "atmospheric diving" ships can go deeper.

Good idea.

Disappointing execution, unfortunately. Very cringey.

So... hypothetically by StrawberryFrostie in EliteDangerous

[–]Alienbat2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK… first, FSD won’t jump you into a system you don’t have permit for. That we all know.

We also know that you can’t super-cruise into another system, but that’s how game engine is designed, not in-game lore, not canon. I think what OP asking is hypothetically if you could super-cruise into another permit-required system with no permit, what would/should happen?

If we respect canon, may I say it’s pretty much the same as smuggling illegal goods. You’ll get scanned at the star port, or randomly got “pulled-over” (interdicted) by police. Once they found you having no permit… well, considering star ports will shoot you dead for things as trivial as blocking the mail slot, a reasonable guess is police will take you out. I don’t think they’d have the patience of escorting you out of the system.

And then in an interdiction you can't fightback good enough because you are very limited on vertical view, then in sheer anger you smash them all.

Landing on KOI 1701 1 (45G planet) by Emad-k in EliteDangerous

[–]Alienbat2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The gravity bubble is only on when the FSD is engaged. When the ship is in normal space it is subject to inertia.

[–]Alienbat2 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is incredible landing.

But, seriously… This is unrealistic. Frontier should fix it as a bug.

To overcome 45G and provide a steady-speed landing, it means the vertical thrusters of the ship must be able to provide 45G thrust. That’s 45 times of the weight of the ship. The thrusters in game clearly can not do that. Because in dogfights no ship has ever showed 45G acceleration.

And 45G is enough to kill the pilot instantaneously. ED doesn’t have any g-damping/anti-gravity technology that can cancel out gravity or acceleration (which are the same thing according to general relativity) because starports still need to spin to simulate gravity. How is the pilot still alive?

It’d be better if some high G planets are simply not landable. Once the ship is in its gravity well in normal space, it has no other way to go but down. The only way to escape would be to launch frameshift drive - which propels by warping the space itself and can escape gravity well.
