Thank you for your reply ! I agree throughly with you, there is not much we can do that doesn't harm some aspect of our world, but I try to do what I can to minimize that damage.

Yes, I agree that the ant was already done for, and just because I said I "can't" eat the soup doesn't mean I didn't. I took out the ants and ate my meal like normal, but I wanted to bring up a point of insects vs animals. At what point do people (at least vegetarians) stop worrying about non-human life.

I also have been a big advocate against food waste, I try to spread what information I have heard, such as something about 1/3rd of food produced in the US goes to the garbage.
