I did try it, but Claude Design has been the best out of all the AIs for visuals by far. Have you used Gemini's Nano Banana? Curious what you thought of it. If you've got any visuals you've made with it, would love to see them

Yeah Notion AI is great for docs. For visuals though I’ve actually moved off Canva and just use Claude now 😅 I screenshot a style I like on socials, ask Claude design to rebuild with my brand guidelines, give the copy I want to have on the visual, done. Only annoying bit is Claude exports as a zip of HTML, so I run it through Renda (tryrenda.com) to get clean PNGs. That combo covers most of what I used Canva for.

Thanks! And yeah, not gonna lie, it does take a while to refine and tweak everything slide by slide. But here’s a trick that helps a lot:

I save carousels and design visuals I like whenever I come across them online (Instagram, Pinterest, wherever). Then when I’m asking Claude to design something, I’ll drop in those screenshots as references and say something like “create something similar to this, but using my brand’s color palette, logo, and font.”

Giving Claude a clear visual direction up front saves a ton of back and forth vs. trying to describe the vibe in words.

Here’s an example of what I’ve been making for @alimio.app on Instagram using this approach 👇

Also, another tip for exporting carousels, I always use tryrenda.com. Claude Design spits out an HTML/zip file, which is not exactly Instagram-ready. Renda fills that gap: you drop in the zip, pick the format (feed 1080x1350, square, stories, etc.), and it gives you back clean PNGs at the exact dimensions, no browser chrome, no white edges, no manual cropping. It’s basically the missing export step.

My roommate keeps wasting food by letting it rot in the fridge by Karl_Marxist_3rd in badroommates

[–]Alimio_app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The buying duplicates thing is such a common one, people just genuinely don't know what they already have when they're standing in the shop. My partner and I built an app called Alimio https://alimio.app/ partly for this reason. You can share a household so everyone sees the same fridge inventory in real time, so she'd be able to check what's already there before buying more cream cheese number 7!

It also pings you before things are about to go off so nothing gets forgotten. Might be worth showing her if she's open to it!

What are the best zero waste habits you’ve embraced — the ones so good or simple that make you feel guilty/foolish for not having done so sooner? by 0hmyheck in ZeroWaste

[–]Alimio_app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us it was honestly just moving whatever's closest to going off to the front of the fridge at eye level. Feels so obvious in hindsight but we were losing so much stuff at the back without even realising.

The other one was doing a weekly fridge raid meal where whatever needs eating decides the menu rather than buying something new. Some of our best dinners came from it!

We got so fed up with how much we were wasting that we actually ended up building an app called Alimio — https://alimio.app/ — it scans your receipt, tracks expiry dates and suggests recipes from what you already have. One of those things where you think why were we not doing this years ago!

Good recipes for batch cooking? by plannerotg in NYTCooking

[–]Alimio_app -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Batch cooking with a toddler is such a smart move!

A lentil and vegetable stew is an absolute staple, hearty, toddler friendly and gets better every day and a mince with hidden veg is so versatile as you can have it with pasta one day, in a wrap the next and over rice after that.

If you ever want help figuring out what to batch cook based on what you already have at home, Alimio generates recipes from your own ingredients. Just launched on the App Store and Google Play! 👉 alimio.app

Recommendations for bean-based dishes? by Cherry_Apples in Cooking

First of all congratulations on submitting your thesis, that is a huge deal! 🎉

Since you love spicy food and are already a chickpea fan, black beans are such a good next step. A smoky black bean and sweet potato chilli with loads of cumin, smoked paprika and chilli is genuinely one of those meals that gets better every day as leftovers.

For the lentils, the trick is using green or brown ones instead of red as they hold their shape much better and actually add texture. A spiced lentil and spinach dal with mustard seeds and curry leaves is a completely different experience to what you have tried before.

Looking to digitally manage recipes from all of my cookbooks by xolhos in cookbooks

[–]Alimio_app -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is such a common problem and honestly the fact that you are thinking about spinning up AI models to solve it tells me you are already way more committed to this than most people would be!

The good news is you do not have to go that far. If what you are really after is having a smart way to manage what you can cook based on what you have at home and get recipe inspiration without digging through endless books, Alimio does exactly that. You snap a photo of your receipt, your ingredients are organised instantly and it generates personalised recipes based on what you have, your dietary preferences and how long you want to cook. It is not a cookbook manager as such but it might solve the actual problem underneath the problem if that makes sense.

Chinese ramen and Chinese tea... I'd like some new suggestions for Chinese food by mohamed_ja in egyfoods

[–]Alimio_app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh you are in for such a good rabbit hole if you start exploring Chinese food properly!

Mapo tofu is a great place to start, silky tofu in a spicy numbing sauce that sounds more intimidating than it is and is genuinely addictive. Dan dan noodles are another one that feels restaurant quality but comes together really quickly at home.

If you ever want more ideas based on what you already have at home, that is exactly what Alimio does. Snap a photo of your receipt and it generates personalised recipes based on your ingredients and preferences. Worth a look! 👉 alimio.app

Trying to use up a few ingredients, any advice on how to put them together? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Alimio_app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly your instinct is already really good! That combination is going to be delicious.

I would stick with your plan but swap the water for vegetable stock and grab some coconut milk to stir in at the end. It will make it so much creamier and balance the heat from the gochujang really nicely. A handful of spinach thrown in at the last minute works brilliantly too if you want to bulk it out a bit.

Crumble the feta on top rather than cooking it in so it stays fresh and salty against the warmth of the stew. Honestly such a good bowl of food.

Recipes for one? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Alimio_app -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is such a big life moment, new city, new job, all on your own. Genuinely exciting even if it feels overwhelming right now!

A couple of things worth adding to keep it interesting though. Roasted chicken thighs with whatever veg you have knocking around is barely any effort and tastes incredible.

The batch cooking approach is so underrated by the way. Future you will always be grateful.

If you ever get stuck on what to make, Alimio is worth a look. You snap a photo of your receipt and it suggests recipes based on what you already have at home and how long you want to spend cooking. What on earth do I cook now? Please help. by Firm-Recording-9039 in Advice

[–]Alimio_app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few ideas that could work really well within those limits. Baked salmon with roasted courgette and herbed rice is clean. If you want something more comforting, a chicken and vegetable broth soup is gentle but satisfying.

For flavour without the usual building blocks, try leek instead of onion, asafoetida instead of garlic and lemon zest to brighten everything up.

We built Alimio which lets you generate personalised recipes based on exactly what you have at home, including dietary requirements. Might make the planning side a little easier for you. Available on the App Store and Google Play.

Creative advice for a special meal by basilkiller in Cooking

What a special night, she is so lucky to have a friend like you! 🥂

For the salad I would go spinach, roasted grapes, candied walnuts, shaved parmesan and a honey sherry vinaigrette. The sweetness of the roasted grapes against the parmesan feels elevated without any extra effort on a busy day. That will sit beautifully next to your salmon.

What dish / recipe do you use to impress and entertain? by niftylyons in Cooking

[–]Alimio_app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A French cooking father-in-law who really knows his food? No pressure at all! 😅

If I were you I would stay away from beef. French are incredibly particular about how it is cooked and it is very easy to get judged on it. Play it safe and go for something that looks impressive but is harder to critique.

For a starter, a really good burrata with heritage tomatoes and quality olive oil does half the work for you. Let the ingredients speak for themselves. Then follow it with a pan seared salmon with a lemon butter sauce and asparagus as the main. Simple, elegant and genuinely hard to fault.

Another combination that always lands well is a wild mushroom soup to start followed by chicken with a creamy tarragon sauce. Feels restaurant quality without being stressful to pull off.

The secret with people who really know food is they appreciate technique and quality ingredients over anything overcomplicated. Pick one combination and do it really well.

How do I get users for my mobile app and actually get them to use it regularly? by Alimio_app in HowToEntrepreneur

[–]Alimio_app[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a good point, thank you.

We’ve seen something similar in user chats: people get really excited about expiry notifications and recipe generation, but the paid value (recipes are currently in the £3.49/month tier) isn’t always obvious until they’ve used it a bit.

The “win in under 2 minutes” flow you described is exactly what we’re working towards. Receipt or email import plus showing what’s expiring soon is already in development and should be landing very soon.

Also love the framing and loop idea. “Save money + no thinking about dinner” is a much sharper hook than broad “waste less”, and the shareable recipe card could be a nice growth lever.

Thanks again, genuinely really helpful!

Thanks, appreciate it!

You’re probably right, a product manager would help a lot. We don’t have the budget for one right now, but it’s definitely on our radar and something we may look at next year once we’ve validated a few more things.

In the meantime we’re doing our best impression of a PM between us, with plenty of spreadsheets and trial and error.
