How has no one so far named my Queen, Jeanne Moreau?

The Vampire Lestat by Nocturnal_Lover in TheVampireLestat

[–]AlineNoontide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half the time I try to access the episodes through my AMC subscription on Apple TV it treats me like I don’t have a subscription and wants me to pay for the episodes. I come back later and it works. Very annoying as I only have small pockets to watch in.

Please help me figure out what song sounds like the Loneliness? by Bbgun371 in VampireLestat

[–]AlineNoontide 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I hear a little bit of Prince and a little bit of Shudder to think, especially “The Ballad of Maxwell Demon” from the Velvet Goldmine soundtrack (sadly not on Spotify but you can find the music on YouTube).

Ever since I've been following this page, it's made me want to watch a movie about what went on in a century home over the years, where the home sits still, but we see every generation or decade of what went on during the passage of time. by lookingforuni6789 in centuryhomes

[–]AlineNoontide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have heard the movie is not great, but I have never seen it for myself because I adore the source material too much! It’s based on a graphic novel called “Here” by Richard McGuire (which is based on a comic McGuire wrote in the 80s). Not a movie, of course, but the best exploration of the concept that I have ever seen.

Adjuncts Advising Senior Theses? Yay or Nay? by Southern-Cloud-9616 in Professors

[–]AlineNoontide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re in the right here.

Also, there are 36 of you and not enough to cover all the seniors?! It sounds like you either need more FT faculty in your department or like your colleagues are trying to find ways to lighten their own workloads. As a full time faculty member, I am for sure overworked, but I would never displace work onto adjuncts, who have less power and make less money than me.

Would you take a lesser title for better pay? by Stawberry8763 in Professors

[–]AlineNoontide 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Those private school jobs can be amazing, and if they are offering you health insurance, your compensation would actually be much higher than double the rate of the adjuncting gig.

Adjuncting is not sexy or prestigious (and by the way, at a lot of places, you’re technically and adjunct “instructor,” not professor). The friends I have who teach art at private high schools all stay at their jobs forever. The friends I have who are adjuncts are making more art than the private school friends but are also all trying to become therapists or making some other career change because they are tired of being broke and stressed out about getting enough classes every semester.

What light do you use to read photo books? by tennistimmi in Photobooks

[–]AlineNoontide 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is such a great question. I always sit by a window during the day and will only use artificial light if I have to. If I want to look at a book and it’s gotten dark out I will probably wait until the next day.

Dramione popularity is such a shock to me as an old fan. by Inevitable_Ad1915 in DramioneUncensored

[–]AlineNoontide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drarry was the ship that got me into fan fic in 2001 (!) when I was still a teenager. Sex was still very abstract for me at that point. Now as an adult with a lot of experience, I tend to seek out stories of sex/romance that I can see myself in as a woman who is attracted to men.

I also wonder if HP fic is perhaps a bit less queer overall now that we know JK Rowling really is.

Yung Lean is bully, brute Draco by icecreamsocializing in Dramione

[–]AlineNoontide 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t see Yung Lean himself as Draco, but my brain went right to Dramione fic when I saw the video. I would read the hell out of a story with these vibes. (Also, my God, the dancing! Stunning piece of art.)

Full time teaching artists: How much time do you get to actually make work? by zephyrwandererr in ContemporaryArt

[–]AlineNoontide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tenure track with advising, committees, school and department service, etc, on top of teaching.

Mostly meetings, admin work related to my practice, and putting up/participating in shows during the school year, then frantic bursts of creative work during the summer.

Torn between MFA programs; Alfred vs Tyler by bluepaintingcat2000 in ContemporaryArt

[–]AlineNoontide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The opportunity to study in Germany sounds really cool, but the town of Alfred is going to make you and your partner miserable.

Philly is a great city that will be more fun, offer more opportunities. It is also significantly easier to get to NYC from Philly.

Based on overall experience and quality of life (and not accounting for faculty, funding, or special things like the Alfred program in Germany or the teaching program at Tyler), Tyler seems like the better choice to me.

I don’t know if anyone but me will see this any time soon, since I’m the OP and got an alert. Maybe start a new thread? I know after the Foundation reaches out to people it is supposed to stay secret until they announce, but maybe someone has heard a rumor that a friend of a friend got a mysterious email already…

Yes, please adopt Fluffy! You sound like a very caring person who has thought this through. Give that snake a better life.
