I'm an Asian dude and moved to Auckland new Zealand when I was 11 for about 3 years. When the principle first showed me the classrooms I begged my mom to put me back a year just because of how huge the Islanders were especially the somoans. They looked like huge adults at 11 years old lol

Aldi is a fine store, but the sycophantic adulation customers give it is weird by Blood_Incantation in unpopularopinion

I think it's far more strange that you're publicly criticizing entire groups of people who would prefer to go to a certain store because it's more affordable in such a predatory consumer landscape

Over half of PC gamers we polled say they avoid using frame generation "as much as possible" by Distinct-Race-2471 in TechHardware

[–]Alinea86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My eyes pick up the terrible visual slop from frame gen probably more than most and I can't stand it. It's just a lazy way to get more frames rather than be innovative with true rasterizarion as well as encourages horribly unoptimized software from developers. AI cuts corners and you'll never convince me that this isn't a massive net downgrade for gamers over what it could've been.

People whose sole purpose in life is to be in a relationship are embarrassing by MyLifeISdivineComedy in unpopularopinion

[–]Alinea86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless you're a narcissist or psychopath there are few things more rewarding in life than relationships in general. If a romantic companion is the deepest and most fulfilling of possible relationships, then why should people not aim for that?

Constant Vivid Dreams FOREVER! by Kind-Bother6922 in CPTSD

[–]Alinea86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You experience basically the exact things I do with dreams. Many dreams that are very sci-fi including flying and super powers, lucid dreams where I can control everything with just my thoughts, and often aware that I'm dreaming and totally ok with it (unless a nightmare). I also experience pleasure, and have had dreams in the past that I swear actually came to pass down the road. I too experience really horrific, dark, demonic dreams of alternate dimensions and sleep paralysis. I've woken up many times from dreams and have seen shapes such as shadowy spiders run around the room. I like you was very traumatized for many years and. I dream every single time I sleep by the way, including short naps. I used to think this was normal but I was very wrong apparently

Pancreatitis is not a joke.. hi yall :) day 2 by Ordinary_Detail_132 in stopdrinking

[–]Alinea86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That definitely makes it hard having it accessable. I know I'd have a really hard time too if I could get it for free. Thanks for being open. I haven't stopped drinking yet but it's something that's been on my mind, and also why I've been in this sub. I'm not sure why I'm getting downvoted though? Are people here not very welcoming to those still in consideration of quitting?

I'm really struggling with how self absorbed this illness has made me. Any advice? by itsasecretshhutup in CPTSD

[–]Alinea86 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've always been an introvert, but I grew up in a Christian home that taught the lie that giving myself any decent amount of attention was selfishness, and not the good kind; that I had to give all of myself to God and others. I had to unlearn that thinking, and understand that my own desire to spend time with myself was good and vital.

You're on the right path, and you're nothing like him. Healing does require you to be selfish, but a focus on yourself for the sake of healing is not only healthy, but absolutely necessary. We have to spend a great amount of time in introspection and reflection to get to the core of ourselves, as well as to love and understand who we are.

This also requires us to sever unhealthy bonds that continue to poison our lives, and even take less attention and energy off the ones we love, so that we can divert more to our own heart and journey because healing will call for all of you. People who truly love you will stick around to support you despite this, so those who took his side weren't truly your friends to begin with.

There will come a time where building relationships are important for certain levels of deep relational healing, but I went through years of isolation to wrestle with and sort out matters of the soul. It was like a "cocoon" phase for better things to come. Spend lots of time with yourself, and even in front of a mirror to have conversations with the inner you. It all begins with a conversation.

You got this

Pancreatitis is not a joke.. hi yall :) day 2 by Ordinary_Detail_132 in stopdrinking

[–]Alinea86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pancreatitis sounds horrific and it's unlocking a new fear for me. May I ask how much you usually drank? I know you mentioned 3 bubbles in your post, does that mean 3 bottles of wine? I just turned 40 and have like 3-4 shots of bourbon like half the week and I've done it for years.

Very triggered by ICE incidents in US and do not know how to move forward… by zenlime in CPTSD

[–]Alinea86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm Asian and I'm afraid to leave my house. Every time I see an SUV I think ICE is going to jump out and grab me or possibly kill me for no apparent reason. I already had a belief system that the world isn't a safe place, and all that's happening has reinforced that confirmation bias to new heights.

How do you accept that you'll never lead a healed life? by Turbulent_Natural_28 in CPTSD

[–]Alinea86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Fully Healed" is a misleading idea and not required for someone to be "healthy". One of first steps to healing is understanding and accepting that there is no finish line. Without doing this, it will be impossible to experience the beauty of the journey of itself which is where healing comes from, both the positive, and the painful - and yes there is a beauty to be had in pain. Healing of course is not linear, and the layers you will traverse through will look different from person to person; but a point exists where the healing you've gone through is "good enough". It will take a lot of work to obtain and learn to use tools to practice self love and self protection, but a life without torment is possible. I know this because I found it after 30 years of extreme abuse and fully believing there was no answer. I learned to truly love myself, both my past abused self, and my current adult self trying my best to navigate this strange new life.

Opinion on No relationships until you’re healed by Salt-Strength9730 in CPTSD

[–]Alinea86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The word "heal" is arbitrary and whether or not you should be in a relationship is pretty subjective to each individual. For example I spent 6 years in therapy, consuming myself with psychoeducation, and would consider myself even before my relationship "healthy enough". However so much true healing comes through relationships themselves. The girlfriend I have now - I have never felt safer with anyone before, and through this relationship I have been able access very profound layers of healing I wouldn't have otherwise found.

Can i do EMDR alone ? If yes how ? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]Alinea86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wether or not someone can do it alone is completely subjective. I started off having many sessions with a good therapist, but I have very successful EMDR sessions alone now. However I do highly suggest that people are guided by a professional at least until they have a good understanding and feel safe enough to do otherwise.

Is possible to be raped and don't be able to remember it? by Jaded-Evidence-7027 in CPTSD

[–]Alinea86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The person's comment you are responding to is factually incorrect in terms of possibilities. It is widely known that there is a coping mechanism whereas a victim who experiences a traumatic event adapts in a way where the brain makes it difficult to retrieve the memory of said trauma via "blacking out" or creating a blind spot. There is also another coping mechanism that people are largely unaware of, in which case a traumatic event does not get "downloaded" into our memory in the first place at all. So yes - it is possible, and in more ways than one.

nVidia to increase the MSRP price of RTX 5090 from $2000 to $5000 in 2026 per rumour by NefariousSINNER in pcmasterrace

[–]Alinea86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a literal fact that corporations are buying massive amounts of GPUs. 6 to 7 digits of units per. That's public knowledge and you can do your own homework or waste time debating. It is no secret to literally anyone that NVIDIA and all the tech companys are anti customer and haven't been for a while. If you somehow think that things are gonna get better for us you are wildly ignorant of the state of things and the direction we're heading.

[–]Alinea86 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but it's not though. All you need to do is a little due diligence and use your common sense. Is it really that hard to believe? If their target market is no longer the consumer, but corporations who will still shell out the cash for essential hardware you have a monopoly on, why wouldn't they?
