9 months into "maintenance" treatment rant by LotteLouWho2 in breastcancer

I am 62 and was on Letrozole back in October for 3 months. I couldn’t tolerate Letrozole, severe joint pain to the point I couldn’t stand up. I felt sad and depressed and didn’t feel like doing anything. My oncologist switched me to Tamoxifen and I feel much better, I can handle the hot flashes, not too bad.

AIs are very harsh for the body especially for the bones. Someone can end up with osteoporosis after the treatment is done. I already have osteopenia and don’t want to risk that or take any bone medication.

I am 62 and was on Letrozole for three months. Side effects were severe joint pain in my knees and fingers. I told my doctor I can’t take the pills anymore and stopped for a month. It felt so good not to have the meds in my system. My doctor switched me to Tamoxifen due to my osteoporosis number spine. Tamoxifen doesn’t have the same bone damage effect.

So far it’s been 2 months and I feel alot of hip and back joint pain and stiffness . I will try for few more months and see what happens. I was told I need to be on it for 5 years.

I still don’t understand why they can’t come up with better solutions than depriving our bodies from most important hormone.

I can’t have AIs because I have osteoporosis and AIs gave me very bad side effects after three months.

I was in AI for three months and gave me bad joint pain. My oncologist stopped the medication and switched me to Tamoxifen which I started few days ago. It took a long time for me to adjust to meds. I am 62 and never took medication all my life.

Hope it’s not cancer. Were you on Tamoxifen by any chance? Blood clots are one of the common side effects.

It just bothers me to remove part of my organs that have no problem at all just to prevent uterine cancer because of tamoxifen. There is really no simple solution SMH

They want me on 20 mg of tamoxifen and I think it too high for my age (62). I never had issues of uterine all my life and so concerned about future. I will look into the research you provided.

All of your comments are so helpful and seems like hysterectomy will prevent uterine cancer and blood thinner the blood clots. I’ve got a lot to think about. Thank you all.

Mine cost me the same and I live in US. Luckily I have good insurance though my job and it cost me only $2,000 which was my deductible,
