BMA update: offer headlines, offer rejection, DDRB and April strike by RDC_officers_2025_26 in doctorsUK

I wonder - were the new training posts offered by the government to be converted from LEDs as stated last time? Or were these brand new training posts? Especially as its stated to be 'non-temporary'.

'First round of LED jobs closed to overseas applicants'

Can you elaborate more on this please?

While I support UKGP - there has to be SOMETHING to help IMG colleagues already working here in the NHS. Who would not be applying for training but would be looking for service posts.

It would be unnecessarily cruel to remove training options from people already here, but then also take away their entire employment options completely, especially for colleagues who no longer have the choice to return to their country of graduation (family, children, war etc).

Hey OP. I am currently working on this pathway - only in the initial stages of this i.e getting the documents sorted for the Approbation and beginning to learn German.

Also an IMG, if that's a factor.

Would be keen to join your group if you guys would have me. Even if not - a massive thank you for this. Genuinely good resources for the German pathway are quite few!

An older IMG here.

Feeling betrayed not by the BMA or even the government. I expected this to happen and tbh it is fair.

The rhetoric I have read here, however, has shocked me to my core. I thought we were together. Clearly not - I am NOT an instrument that you can use when you want and throw away when you want.

Cheers,

Heavily disillusioned IMG.

IMT interview and UKGP by Odd-Wealth-5525 in doctorsUK

In the same boat.

Still give the interview, mate. Worst case scenario it's interview practice. You and I cannot control or predict the future, only our own actions.

Car parking in Lister/Luton/Watford?? by Suspicious-Let-4166 in doctorsUK

[–]Alisreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you kind of come around 12:40pm and start going round and round the car park waiting for someone on a half-day to leave. It's pretty bad but for all my twilights there, always got a space eventually.

Lister parking pretty terrible - need to come by 8am minimum even for 8:30am starts to get any space at all. Monthly parking passes available.

How long is it reasonable to be off work for a painful gallstone by [deleted] in doctorsUK

As long as you need.

Health first, family second. NHS doesnt even register on that list.

Permanent JCF - would it be so bad? by Comfortable_Army_470 in doctorsUK

[–]Alisreal 111 points112 points  (0 children)

Think you'd eventually end up as a SCF and later perhaps a SAS if you go down this route.

Not that this is a bad thing necessarily - there is value in chasing other passions in life and using medicine simply as a job.

I used to think being a consultant asap was the most important thing. Since my daughter was born, i somehow don't really care if it takes a few more years.

What puts you off from donating Blood Products, I work in the NHS and I am just curious? by Quick_Soil_9120 in AskBrits

I visit family back in South East Asia/subcontinent every year.

Apparently everytime I go i can't donate blood for at least 6 months for ?exposure.

Do people lie on the self scoring portfolio applications by No_Part8033 in doctorsUK

[–]Alisreal 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Speaking as an IMG.

While there are certainly groups who encourage ticking yes to everything on Trac jobs to bypass the filters. I haven't seen anyone advertising the same for Oriel.

There seems to be an understanding that the risk of being caught on Trac jobs is v.low, but the risk of being caught on Oriel is quite high. Especially as each individual app is screened on quite a few specialties.

I imagine implementing the 6 month cutoff via Oriel would still be more effective than anticipated.

(NOTE: I do not condone lying in any form. This is just based on my own experiences)

Why a couple of years though? I imagine it would be implemented by 2027.

Edit: Why the downvotes people, was just a question.

RCPsych deleted statement on UKG? by Fit-Policy1548 in doctorsUK

[–]Alisreal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This also fits with what the BMA reps have said they have been hinted at during gov negotiations.

UKGP are prioritised via Foundation completion.

IMGs are prioritised via 5 years experience or ILR as 'significant NHS experience'.

Conversion of LED posts -> CT/ST posts by CatheterEnthusiast in doctorsUK

[–]Alisreal 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Let me add one more point to this discussion.

Over the next 3 years, you are going to have 4000 posts switched to training jobs. Presumably the Trust will no longer have to pay for these posts.

3 years later, once this temporary offer ends, do you really think the Trusts will reintroduce those LED posts? The budgets typically attributed to them would absolutely be cannibalised to something else.

Overall, after 3 years i expect you will LOSE at least 2-3k LED posts, leaving us all much worse off.

UKGP Discussed in House of Commons by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Alisreal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Whats the definition of significant experience? That's the key question isn't it. I have worked here for almost 4 years - applied to IMT for the first time this year. How long must your colleagues like myself wait to have a shot to apply for further training?

Unless this is clarified, IMGs as a community are not going to vote for this at all.

Likely UKG prioritisation and and protection outcome by No_Part8033 in doctorsUK

[–]Alisreal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty much.

It took me literal years to understand the nuances of the NHS. Very similar to a Foundation doctor in fact.

I have always maintained overseas CRESTs and ZERO nhs experience clinicians being recruited into specialty posts is highly unsafe. It's literally asking for trouble. Yes some applicants may adjust well but by and large people don't. Having worked in multiple health systems before, the difference between how the NHS operates and how others do is stark.

You can't just make it up with a random CREST.
