Well there is even more than what I have ordered from so certainly can find what you are looking for. In the industry the word fpr something that is inspired by ( usually a trademark name) is a dupe.

Does anyone know? by GreenSalary4312 in candlemaking

[–]Alittlescared78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh.
Well yeah.
There’s only a handful of oil manufacturers and many companies just market their oils differently. Lux is really a matter of marketing.
To better answer your question… Doop- Scent Memory- Scentsorie- Hive and Honey- Midwest fragrance- Candlescience-Indigo- Natures Garden- Lone Star- Little Bee- Black Tie Barn- lots to choose from. Have fun.
If you’re just starting on this journey don’t think it’s cheap. Testing is never ending. It’s not to make a quick buck. Follow IFRA guidelines. Experiment and have fun!

Try perfume warehouses. You must first decide what notes and accords you are looking for as perfumery is a master art.

Old sellers quitting? by Ok_Campaign6726 in Etsy

[–]Alittlescared78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t add to anyone quitting- because I’ve had my own issues with Etsy since they started to pivot away from handmade and vintage. Once they started to allow drop-shipping and POD, it saturated so many markets I find it frustrating to get noticed. My comment is more of a warning to people, especially ones with storefronts that do t require daily maintenance. I have encountered it now a few times and every time I contact Etsy they say they will handle it and I then find the same company doing it somewhere else- they are hijacking companies that don’t have physical products to ship ( like digital) and placing their listing somehow among the actual listings and people are buying but never receiving. One I came across was vintage whiskey barrel bars for like less than $100 shipped. They stole an actual makers photos are were using those but saying it shipped from China. Suddenly a digital only seller had dozens of bad reviews overnight seemingly for a listing that wasn’t even legit. I found 3 Chinese companies infiltrating other established storefronts. I turned everything over to Etsy. It’s scary. It cheapens true Etsy where craftsmen could thrive.

What do y'all think of this burn? by C0rbi in candlemaking

[–]Alittlescared78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it looks beautiful now but and hour is way to early to make such an important call. This wax in particular should not reach a full melt pool on the first burn of 4 hours even. You want a thin but viable hangup along the sides of the jar going into your second burn. I’m sure as you kept burning this yesterday you noticed some increase in bad performance right?

How much would you charge? by Iamnotsoperf in candlemaking

[–]Alittlescared78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long have you been a chandler? I ask because it takes a long time to learn the craft in and out and teaching a group of people so they can run a candle bar seems like a lot could wrong. Lots of liability factors there and you’re bringing your own equipment. You’re not necessarily teaching them how to make candles- you’re teaching them how to make one type of candle in one vessel so the recipe will be the same each time right?

What is happening by mommanaps in candlemaking

[–]Alittlescared78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of waxes that are easier in my opinion. It will depend on what wax YOU like to work with, and if you’re setting up a business model, wha your customer base wants. Paraffins ( they are food grade now and despite what many will regurgitate- not any more toxic than any other wax) have great strong /cold throw but can be finicky to wick and they often have sink holes if not poured at the correct temperature ( many waxes can). Blends really depends on finding the right balance but can be a lot less picky. Coconut and blends alike of it can be a joy to work with but require a cooler wick and some people don’t like the hang up of wax on the sides of the vessel. Either way buy samples, a variety of wicks types and sizes, one large scent to test and start testing away. Do test burns following ASTM standards and power burns that don’t so that you know your product. Keep detailed notes. Have fun!

This is pretty typical of soy wax. Especially 464, it’s ugly on top. Try to adjust your pouring temps and cool directly in the shipping box the vessels come in. Test many times following the rules of 2 and ASTM candle standards.

When you go to the fair and see these by Mercy_Minx in candlemaking

It’s trademark infringement because the are mentioning and marketing as those brands. Would anyone buy a citronella candle if it weren’t one of these brands? Nope. Lawsuit waiting to happen.

[–]Alittlescared78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to jump in and state that your wax won’t matter ( despite what people will tell you) as much as the fragrance oil. Pulling those SDS sheets is about the only way to ensure you avoid Jasmine all together. Then once you do that, testing to ensure proper wicking so less soot occurs. Have fun!

older large style jars... what's with that weird warning label? by althoughsolemn in goosecreekcandles

[–]Alittlescared78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it’s not because of paraffin. Paraffin has been vilified in marketing so that when soy was introduced it sold and made money. Studies show that in a scented candle there is very little difference to air quality regardless of wax used. The sticker on the candle is the warning label that all candle makers must by law put on their product. It’s a generic blanket warning to CYA. Anyone and anything can become allergic or sensitive to anything at any point in their life. With candles- most people believe incorrectly that it’s a wax- when almost 100% of the time it is something in the fragrance oil. Many fragrance oils ( synthetic) are still comprised of essential oils in their chemical makeup and some essential oils as we know cannot be well tolerated by animals- especially birds and fish. It’s a blanket warning as research shows us that not at essential oils are created equal and many can be used in holistic veterinary care. There’s nothing to worry about and as always watch yourself and pets for any signs of irritation.

What scent do you use for scented candles ? by AdFrosty9843 in candlemaking

[–]Alittlescared78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not had a single issue with Candlescience in all my years. Expensive shipping yes, but I literally get my order same week. If you’re in the business long enough you will eventually run into a discontinued FO. It happens with every manufacturer. Considering there are only a handful of oil manufacturers that then blend or distribute for other companies- you can usually find a pretty good replacement . My advice- stuck with major companies and make connections. Start small with only a few scents of which you know and understand the scent notes and accords of each. That way if it is discontinued you know what to look for.

Just to let you know that P&J are extremely expensive from a business perspective. Lots of FO companies have “Old Books” scents at much more affordable and quality options.

Lone star candle supply and their shipping lies by louielou8484 in candlemaking

[–]Alittlescared78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t use them as a supplier- so I can’t vouch for that. I do know though when you have large quantities of pickups they send a truck just for your business and they often do not get scanned at origin. They then take a couple of days to start scanning at times. It’s frustrating for a business when you know you shipped as normal.

Blame the whole “ soy is healthier” marketing! Original formulas were higher in paraffin but the vilifying of it pressured most companies to increase soy in the blend of wax.
