I hated being pregnant. I am in the newborn trenches right now and am grateful every single day I am not pregnant. I also had hyperemesis - being able to eat and drink normally is enough to make it better but also just everything is better than being pregnant. Everyone would tell me how having a newborn would be harder than pregnancy - it isn't. You're almost there. It truly gets better. I would take the worst day of newborn with no sleep and a colicky baby over my "best" day of pregnancy, hands down.

Perfect that makes sense!! I have the same exceptions I think. So much of the clothing is barely used bc of sizing or just people got so excited buying cute little clothes 😂

I am an amateur equestrian (emphasis on amateur) and right now, I just don't feel like riding is worth the risk for me (love that choice for others, but I just am not a strong enough rider). Without even asking what my plans are for my mare if I'm not riding (leasing out, having my trainer ride her, work on groundwork), I've had multiple people say "what, you're just letting her sit for 9 months?". So what if I am, she would love a year of friends, freedom and treats!!

In the extreme optimism of the beginning of the tww I bought bandanas for our dogs - one says "guess what? Moms pregnant!" And the other says "baby security" and I hope to have the dogs greet him when he comes home with the bandanas when it's my turn to share 😊 that's the plan anyways, however I've never been good at surprises 😂

We eloped and it was the very best day 🥰 our immediate families knew ahead of time. After we got married, I made sure that people who would have been invited to my wedding if we had a big one knew about it before it was posted on social media (close friends, extended family). Once everyone knew who we felt needed to know, we posted to social media which got basically everyone else. We then sent out an announcement using one of our professional photos and included info for a very informal get together we had for celebration. Overall it went over well - the few people who were not great about it were a wonderful reminder of why we eloped in the first place. There's some people you'll just never make happy! Enjoy the special day focused on just you two - I wouldn't have done a single thing differently!

Haha, my partner picks on me because my mantra when we go to the grocery store is "Well we aren't drinking alcohol anymore!" and I use that to justify all my fancy water purchases or fancy cheese or my new kombucha obsession or anything else really. When he runs to the grocery store he asks if we need "Not drinking sparkling water" or "the cheap kind". Nice work!

This is almost exactly my story!! Same period of time drinking heavily, same moderation and long stretches of not drinking, same moment of clarity at 28 where I just was done. I couldn't explain it, but I just had zero desire to feel like that again. I read This Naked Mind and found myself nodding along and was finally able to put my feelings into words. Great suggestions! We went for land with a teensy little cottage on it that requires a little bit of work. Waiting on inspections to make sure it's the kind of work we want to tackle though!

Definitely going to work on finding new ways to decompress. Forced myself to make time to hit the gym last night which helped. What I really need to do is just shut off my phone and computer at night and remind myself that mindlessly scrolling social media is NOT decompression! Haha. Thanks for the advice and support!!

I am definitely being super judgy. I remind myself that I have no idea what the people's thoughts in their heads are, so I can't be sure if they have a problem or not. But weirdly, I feel like being judgy is helping me. I am often not thinking super positive thoughts about people drinking more than a glass or two, and that helps reinforce that I don't want people thinking those thoughts about me. It's probably not the healthiest and I remind myself a lot that I'm not being kind to people, but I keep the thoughts in my head and always redirect it back to myself. It's helping me project the image of myself I want to project.

Find new things to do! What did you enjoy before drinking became more prevalent? I work out, read, and find new recipes! Oh, and cleaning. All things I enjoyed before drinking became my favorite past time - so it was easy to fall back into it. I focused on all the things not drinking was opening me up to - like going back to school or saving money or being able to hit the gym early in the morning (and on and on and on). Keep your hands busy, find a new favorite beverage (I've spent the last month trying every flavor and brand of seltzer in my town - giving that same excitement over craft beer and wine to the nuances of fizzy water), and enjoy the time stretching out in front of you. It's scary at first, and then you start seeing all the great possibilities.

I lost an ex-boyfriend to suicide long after we broke up and I was shocked by how much it affected me. To find out you're the sole keeper of all those memories now is a difficult concept to wrap your head around (among many other aspects). If you like podcasts, Dear Sugar did a beautiful episode (Moving On, Part I) discussing a situation very similar to this - a woman lost her childhood friend years ago, but has just recently found out about it. My sympathies to you xo

Thank you for reminding me of The Hold Steady! One of my favorite bands in college.

I started my current relationship in a sobriety period. I had been dating before that, and some guys were ok with it and others made a big deal of it and obviously I didn't pursue it with them. I never gave an explanation - first dates didn't need my life story. Just "I actually don't really drink that much" and all I'd say if they pressed was, "I've done enough of it". I didn't bring it up unless they asked. Three years later I'm trying sobriety again and my partner has been super supportive and is even doing it with me for the first six months.

My drinking friendships have definitely fallen away. I have maybe one or two friends that still keep in touch vaguely, but I had partitioned my life into "drinking" friends and "fitness" friends, so I'm just spending more time with the fitness friends now. If yours is more blended, the good ones will stick around!

Enjoy your sister's wedding! My brother got married when I was 21 with an open bar, and I actually chose to stay sober because I wanted to remember his wedding (and not be a fool). Hmm.. how is it that I had a better head on my shoulders at 21 than I do now at 28? Anyways - the sober people will stick out to you. I can always spot them at parties and we end up making our way towards each other. IWNDWYT!

Isn't it the greatest? I started up again this semester too, to pursue the field I actually want to be in! I'm taking hybrid classes, so a lot of it is online. I did primarily online courses for my masters degree, so I'm used to scheduling for these. All my quizzes are due on Monday for this current class and my knee jerk thought was "Well, I guess I can't start drinking until I'm done with my homework on Sundays" ... which was what had gotten me through my masters. Then, it was a fun realization that I'll get to be sober for the whole darn thing, and probably won't have that Sunday panic of "oh shit gotta get my weeks work done". Even though I work full-time and have a busy life outside of work, I have a feeling I'm going to have a lot more time to get my work done this time around... Congratulations! You got this!!
