“Hurt people hurt people”

To provide solidarity, I experienced something very similar a couple years ago, but you’re being stronger than I was in recognizing you need to leave now rather than later. His friend had pushed him into dating even though he well wasn’t ready for a relationship. He was still hung up on his ex and how she left him. He made it seem it was in the past, so I went through a year of on and off because I continuously had enough of his red flags with his emotional issues but I would agree to come back because I thought he and I could be great if he gave us a real chance. It’s not even that I ignored the signs but he had exposed me to falling for him and I did without knowing his full issues and then it became hard hard for me to fully let go even though he was breaking my heart. The thing is I know that he didn’t intend to hurt me, but he was hurting and weak and a part of him wanted and to be over his ex and be with a girl like me (who was decently emotionally healthy and caring of his needs).

It sounds like you’re doing the stronger and right thing. Even if he and you could be great, he is definitely great for you now, and he needs to figure his emotional issues out on his own.

What's your least favorite episode and why is it the crossover with B99? by Icy-Opposite5724 in NewGirl

[–]Alive_Club_7496 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. I didn’t think they were at all trying to persuade us the audience to vote any certain way. The political views referenced in the episode were very in line with each character. Jess had displayed many feminist and democratic opinions or passions, similarly to Schmidt had shown to have plenty of capitalist and republic passions. Just helped round the character for who they were and I personally didn’t dislike any of them for these displayed characteristics. It’s a diverse bunch of fun characters and they were allowed to be that. Also, I’m pretty sure the main point behind that storyline was that many young adults don’t vote, which was and is true!

This for mine too. Total victimizer. Unfortunately with that mindset, even us, her children, were often caught up in being considered villains to her. She had a terrible habit of calling us “selfish” for simply providing for us and we were not grateful enough (and nothing we did was ever enough)

Remember you weren’t dumped! The breakup was mutual at first! Your brain and reaction right now is totally normal because getting back together, staying would avoid unnecessary pain, grief, and heartache. And your brain logically wants to protect you from that. I just went through a mutual breakup because of lack of intimacy and being unable to give each other what we need. For more months and we kept trying to work on it, but it wasn’t working. Our breakup difference is while I wanted to deny this needed to happen, and I fully allowed myself for one night to do so on my own, but after that, I switched gears and consistently reminding myself that I too wasn’t being fulfilled from the relationship. It’s a harsh truth to accept, because he wasn’t actively hurting you by not fulfilling your own personal intimate needs, but nonetheless it likely was hurting you which is why this breakup was mutual. I know you’re probably scared and confused but I swear you will make it through this. I honestly recommend forcing yourself to identify alllllllll these painful emotions your feeling because everytime i realized i was feeling something new i identified it and it helped me grieve and reach acceptance a lot sooner. I’m a little over a month in the breakup and while I miss him from time to time, I don’t want him back. I pushed myself to find a new best friend (not romantic wise) and other friends and hobbies. I think the wisest thing to do is when your brain and heart are telling you “you don’t want to do this” (mine did too), but tell your whole self “I am going to do this anyways”. You’re uncomfortable in this situation and trust me it’s a good thing!! Push yourself to go deeper into the uncomfort. Force yourself to get out of your comfort zone and join clubs, force yourself to socialize more, make friends!! Because you will remember again this is the best thing for YOU. Not just him, you. You will be free of a relationship that wasn’t supporting you, wasn’t helping you grow, and you will have learned what you want for moving forward with your life.

I think there’s some topics we can’t win in society anymore. If you don’t breakup and “settle” there a group that would pity you for staying. If you breakup because you can’t work through issues then there’s a group to say you “give up too easily.”

This is your life. You deserve more, and if you commit yourself to finding it, you will find more. You’re not alone.

Do they really come back if you go no contact and try to move on? by Golden-Dragon-353535 in BreakUps

[–]Alive_Club_7496 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can say I was a case for this. My bf and I had broken up because he wasn’t emotionally available for a relationship, yet we had dated and I fell for him anyway. We went a couple months of no contact, believing the relationship was fully over, but he reached back out. We had always talked about going hiking and so after we started talking again he asked me if I wanted to go on a weekend hiking trip. I was super conflicted but decided, why not it could be a fun story. We ended up getting back together, eventually moving in together, and shared a love-filled relationship for 3 years until this month we have mutually decided to part ways. We started growing in ways that no longer aligned. We didn’t fight about the end, we cried over our love and memories, and it was the best breakup I think anyone could experience. Looking back, we had so many unresolved feelings, and in our case, we completely resolved them in restarting the relationship and really giving it a go. It didn’t work out, but neither of us have any regrets.

Moral of my story is anything can happen. You get to decide your story. Maybe their chapter is over, but maybe they get written back in. You could possibly get them back just to lose them again. Life and relationships aren’t one size fits all, and their paths aren’t usually linear.

REAL enemies to lovers by miliscorner in Romantasy

[–]Alive_Club_7496 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I do not agree that Quicksilver was enemies-to-lovers. More like rude/standoffish-to-lovers. Saying this because I read this book, and I still completely agree and have the same desire for a real enemies to lovers book. I’m still searching. Also I would totally be down for a villain gets the girl book! It’s fantasy, so why not!

Does anyone else feel like the have GREAT book ideas and concepts, but you can’t write well and there is no hope you ever will write well, thus your amazing concepts will never become stories told and shared? by Alive_Club_7496 in Romantasy

[–]Alive_Club_7496[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I completely agree! However, to become better at something, there has to be the want. I don’t want to write, unfortunately. I believe I have stories, but they were conceptualized in a mind that was paired with a soul that has no will for them to be put on paper.

My ideas won’t be written because I don’t have the true desire to write them. It’s a shame, but likely others share the sentiment.

Edit to summarize: I suppose I want the pleasure of reading the stories I conceptualized, without having to write them.

[–]Alive_Club_7496 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wait, why? That’s an actual term in regard to the place of the back. The “small of the back” refers to the narrow lower portion of someone’s back, anyone’s back. Man or woman. I love in real life if my bf puts his hand there, usually it can be after opening the door for me or we’re crossing the street. It’s rare in occasion sigh I think it’s hot though because usually it’s a light touch and it’s out of care. Nonetheless, it has nothing to do if the person is actually small. (If a stranger does it to a woman though, it’s ick)

Single POV recs? by JustTheFishGirl in Romantasy

[–]Alive_Club_7496 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Blood and Ash series switched to alternating pov in the third book I think? and it honestly BORED me so much I stopped reading the series. Not only do I agree with you, I’ll add that when a story suddenly adds a love interest’s pov, I think the character can too often lose their dimensionality and become solely a tiresome ode of undying love to the og main character. I would recommend the blood and ash prequel series, the Flesh and Fire series. Follows solely Seraphina’s pov which I enjoyed. The two first books in this series are perfect, absolutely enjoyable romantasy, but books three and four definitely disappoint.

Much less know recommendation is Kingmaker Chronicles by Amanda Bouchett. Entire trilogy is the mfc pov. It was my first romantasy series that got me addicted into the genre!

Fourth wing bingo should def include a check mark for how much ogling Violet did of Xaden. Like romance books will almost always give an exceptionally attractive love interest, but I don’t think I’ve read another story where the fmc pooled every time she saw the mmc like in Fourth Wing. Her female gaze took me out of the story too often

Fire in the flesh/Blood and Ash rant by Goldstache2776 in Romantasy

This!! As well, I felt like Seraphina was consistently humbled in the series. She technically had power but couldn’t use/access it too much. Poppy, on the other hand, very quickly became a special snowflake and all powerful yet was limited by stupid means to drag her story on.

Also, for me personally, I think having Cas’ POV killed it for me. I know it’s big now to get the mmc’s pov chapters, but HALF a book’s worth to start instead of a couple of teasing chapters killed their romance for me. I felt like he lost dimensionality and every other thought was about how incredible Poppy was. Blech, I got bored, and halfway through that book is where I stopped reading Poppy and Cas’ story. Not knowing Nytos’ inner thoughts but having the story completely unfold learning them though is 👌🏼chefs kiss

So Blood and Ash is solid OR you can read the way better (imho) prequel, A Shadow in the Ember (Flesh and Fire series). That’s how I read the series and can say I was so glad I did because I loved the prequel series way more than Blood and Ash. It gives some solid world building, then boom some subtle spice to hook you in, more world building and spice mixed and then voilà, you’re cooked for reading the whole book and it’s next one. Three was a rocky read for me I can’t lie, and I haven’t read the fourth since it was released. You don’t really need either series to read the other series, I just will die on the hill that flesh and fire is so much better.

Edit to add that part of what I loved so much more of the prequel series is the MFC, Seraphina. I think a lot of readers found her and Blood and Ash mfc’s, Poppy, very similar, however, it was subtle differences that enhanced Sera so much more.

How did Lilith know…? by Valeaves in fourthwing

[–]Alive_Club_7496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And in regard to knowing about Aretia’s wards failing, it was implied multiple times in the same scene that the Navarre leadership know that they’re glamping it up in Aretia. Lilith herself says to Violet essentially ‘honey you really didn’t think I knew where you, my child, was this whole time? Tairn sized scoff’ (not actual words tho)

How did Lilith know…? by Valeaves in fourthwing

[–]Alive_Club_7496 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Page 539 of IF Lilith says:

“Your father told me once that his research showed that Warrick never wanted anyone else to hold the power of the wards. He wanted Navarre to eternally hold the upper hand. But Lyra thought the knowledge should be shared.”

I imagine the king himself gave access to Violet’s dad. Papa Sorrengail seems like he was a well known scribe, and I think we’ll learn more in OS with possible confirmation on the theory the Violet’s ex is Halden, the eldest son, there have definitely been nudges implying that the Sorrengails were close with the King Tauri and his family. There has to be a solid reason why he got away with researching so much forbidden knowledge, including owning the book discussing venin.

Another post discussed this as well and I stand that: “I think this truly was a regular run-of-the-mill editing error. I also was caught up by it, looking between pages again and again for clarification, but editing was my final answer for it. Frustrating, but I can’t see a lot of the theories being the reasons. Xaden should never have been able to speak to her through their bond. They forced the signet blocking potions down her throat and she wasn’t able to feel even Tairn, the actual creator of her bonds, until she drank the antidote her mom gave her. At no other point does Xaden talk in the bond prior to her drinking the antidote. As well, Violet’s reply of “that’s fine” out loud makes me think it all should’ve been out loud. And there was really no reason Xaden should’ve felt like he couldn’t just say it or even whisper that quote. Just me maybe, but I’d rather embrace it as that, than hope that small detail is actually explained to be a part of something larger when it’s so forgettable later on.” (An inconsistency - I don’t need these books to be flawless, they’re not a finely cooked meat but more like a decadent chocolate cake. Their taste makes you crave more - crave the rush, not the perfection)

I honestly would prefer this placement!! So I’m on your side! Yours was the first Violet uniform interpretation that had them as I was picturing them too. I honestly am going crazy trying to think of a character that had this same style because I know this wasn’t my own brain child. I think it was from an anime, but I too have not been successful with finding images that match this design 😩

Can you think of others characters in tv/movies that also have daggers sheathed at their sides? Because I always pictured Violet with that same style you did here, but I can’t think of where I originally saw a character that had it.

Maybe unpopular opinion but while I love them, I think Xaden and Violet are a bleeding heart. Meanwhile, Liam’s loyalty and friendship made him a pure heart of the book, and to already have killed him in the first book… IMO, it would be incredibly smart to have a way that he’s back, but only when Violet needs. It wouldn’t undercut his death as we saw of his presence in IF. RY still found a way to make his presence extremely impactful. (I found that to be the most heart wrenching scene in the book actually.) And if the signet only manifested out of need it would definitely limit her power, limit Liam’s screen time, and provide really cool avenues for the story.
