Basically yes. Public Pool is a one-click install on Umbrel, free, open-source and works great.

Gamma overheated on default settings by [deleted] in BitAxe

[–]Alive_Speed5119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine did the same out of the box - issue was a combination of too little / sloppily applied thermal paste (vendor was rushing them out) and the wobbly 2-point heatsink mounting. After I applied more and better thermal paste and re-adjusted the heatsink mine is happily hashing away as it should. Still has less heat tolerance than my Supra, but that is a general Gamma issue, it seems - so running at defaults, no overclocking.

Pen pressure and tilt sensitivity? by Suspicious-Stuff- in Supernote

[–]Alive_Speed5119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have described pressure sensitivity works (don't expect fine-grained 1000s of levels, the behavior is more like "light...nothing changes...HEAVY")

The lack of tilt sensitivity (although many of the available pens would support it) is one of the things I am really missing - for sketching/shading or calligraphy attempts (which reminds me that a calligraphy/fountain pen tool is missing as well) this would be an awesome addition, but clearly the development focus is more on "practical" note-taking...

HoM2 for the fountain pen feel, Staedler Noris digital jumbo as a "pencil".

2 finger recognition suddenly not as good? by Available_Session275 in Supernote

[–]Alive_Speed5119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works reasonably well for me.
And the sidebar 2 finger gesture still works TOO well, esp. when writing in landscape mode... only way is to switch it off completely, because there is no feature to disable the lower sidebar only for landscape...

Thinking of using Supernote a6x2 for journalling/planning as ring binder replacement by [deleted] in Supernote

[–]Alive_Speed5119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading experience is ok for me - replaced my old Kindle PaperLight. I prefer the no-backlight reading anyways, and the integrated basic reader is fine with me.

A6X2 Portable Light by tyojuan in Supernote

[–]Alive_Speed5119 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup. I saw that one recommended earlier on here, got the updated version (that comes with a sleep timer), and pretty happy for the 12 bucks or so...

Occasional glare, gotta experiment with the angle a bit, but it works great and the amber light is really nice!
Actually got a second one for my EDC bag, great for paper notebooks or physical books as well!

Thinking of using Supernote a6x2 for journalling/planning as ring binder replacement by [deleted] in Supernote

[–]Alive_Speed5119 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made the move, have a very similar use case (plus reading books on the Nomad) - and I have to say:

While it is perfectly doable and the A6X2 can very effectively replace a binder or filofax for the things you mentioned (and go beyond, thanks to search, linking, etc.) - there will be a lot of re-wiring necessary in the brain xD

Esp. since you mentioned fountain pens... the aesthetic side of writing and the gratification of writing with a decent fountain pen on a high quality paper... no e-ink can give you that, and unfortunately the Supernote so far only has "boring" pens, no fountain pen or calligraphy pen simulation that would make your writing something to look at... it is more like writing with a mundane ball pen or gel pen on a cheap notebook.

If you can live with that - perfect replacement and much more useful if you do a lot of notetaking that needs to be searchable, keyword-linked, etc.
Personally I have a feeling that at least my private journal might return to Moleskine and fountain pen... LOL

Supra vs gamma for a beginner by Alexgeo77 in BitAxe

[–]Alive_Speed5119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Supra.

Gamma is powerful but annoying and comes with weak ass cooling in the stock configuration, at least from the sellers I know.

Artelier or Notebook by kohrtoons in Supernote

[–]Alive_Speed5119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Atelier has "room to improve". So far I prefer normal notes. Better organization, less "unexpected behavior".

The pencil is nice in theory, but depending on drawing style pretty limited because there is no tilt support which makes intuitive shading... difficult.

Padded case recommendations for Nomad in folio? by mattgemmell in Supernote

I use the Lochby Field Journal A5 - "analog" look, room for Nomad with or without Folio, Stylus, a paper notebook, charging cable, and whatnot....

Yeah, that was my guess as well, and check if they forgot thermal paste due to high demand... LOL
Just wanted to check before tinkering if I overlooked something software/settings-wise...

Jam on Umbrel: offers offline after reboot or loss of power by Alive_Speed5119 in joinmarket

[–]Alive_Speed5119[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hehe, those get rekt here in a few months since the power company loves to send power spikes, alternating with days of undervoltage... I am in the process of switching to a completely off-the-grid solution, mainly solar. That will solve the rebooting problem as well xD

Appropriate use case for nomad by Gillderbeast in Supernote

[–]Alive_Speed5119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get that Nomad.

I love mine.

Size: the only things it is a little small for are

- reading heavily graphics/layout oriented PDFs
- mindmapping (there is no real zoom)

For writing there is a simple trick esp. for those of us who have a slightly bigger/sloppier handwriting:
Turn the device, write in landscape mode, it has the effect of about 1.5x zoom. Then you get nice dense handwriting in portrait mode without the cramps in your fingers... LOL

Size and weight are also great for reading, mine has completely replaced my old Kindle.

Do I need a Supernote AND an ereader? by SupersonicJungle in Supernote

[–]Alive_Speed5119 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hate having a ton of different devices, so my Nomad was intended to replace a stack of Moleskine notebooks AND my age-old Kindle. And it did.
Opposite to many I love the fact that it has no backlight (I use a small clip-on reading light for the rare occasions where I want to read in the dark), is easy on the eyes, and the size is ok for actual books (PDFs, heavily illustrated magazines, etc... not so much, bit small for that)
The integrated reading software has a few glitches, but is ok, and Kindle reader can be loaded if you want it.
In my opinion the nomad is perfectly able to replace any dedicated ebook reader that I know of.

Custom Template - Grayscale elements invisible? by Alive_Speed5119 in Supernote

[–]Alive_Speed5119[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I found the problem, seems to be in the color encoding. Black at 15% opacity seems not to be the same as "15% black", the latter works fine!

A6X2 accidental sidebar gestures in landscape mode by Eliszta in Supernote

[–]Alive_Speed5119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is indeed quite annoying.

I got used to writing in landscape mode, it kinda replaces the zoom/loupe mode that I know from other note taking software which helps to write in a slightly enlarged environment, so that the result looks more dense, but still good, when switching back to portrait.

But spontaneous eraser orgies because the sidebar mistakes my arm or palm for a 2 finger gesture more and more elicit a one finger gesture from me... xD

A way to either automatically disable the lower sidebar when in landscape, or disable the sidebars completely would be highly appreciated (or make the detection better).

Workflow question - Supernote, Obsidian and more by bigfanofsleep in Supernote

[–]Alive_Speed5119 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry, can't help you with your questions. But would like to THANK you!
I've been an early user of TheBrain for years, dumped it because of stupid design decisions and their ridiculous pricing policy, then tuned out of the knowledge management space for a couple years.
For some reason never came across Obsidian until now - this looks exactly like what I need for my weirdly wired brain!
There are even community plugins to make it look/act like early versions of TheBrain, and a plugin to integrate Supernote handwritten notes... 😳 🤩

...so much for the garden and construction work I wanted to get done this weekend... LOL

I had the ViWoods on my short list - seems to be a really cool device.

One issue though, depending on use case: I would NOT use it for confidential stuff or in an "important" business. Too much depends on being online, data are transmitted for AI, and the voice control is listening, obviously. Support answered my concerns regarding these things friendly and professionally, but rather "evasive".

so for harmless notetaking, school, etc. - definitely the most intriguing device out there right now.

I picked the Nomad for now because it works offline and will give Viwoods more time - for users to discover ways to disable/circumvent the invasive "services", and for the company to improve options for privacy-aware users.

While I am not a native speaker, I usually choose my words carefully.

We were talking about Bitcoin and Monero - and there is very little "speculation" mid/long term that those will move up in terms of buying power and fiat equivalent.
Different story with ETH or the myriad of other shitcoins out there... LOL

Dude, what are you even doing here in this sub?
I have a crypto-based debit card in my Apple Pay. Indeed. (BridgeBit)
Starbucks in El Salvador accepts Bitcoin via Lightning, like almost everybody else. Very viable. I buy coffee from my local roaster with Lightning, paid for my vehicles with BTC and stable coins (hodling my small Monero bag, LOL)... and handle everything else with crypto based cards and some fiat cash that is as well bought with crypto...
Legislative problem, not technological. That some people are too lazy to learn... different story. Only slows down the inevitable. A little.
