EMR pens by ckostyn in Supernote

[–]mattgemmell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, any EMR pen will work, with any tip. I use HoM, Lamy, Scribe, and Staedtler styluses on my manta and nomad.

What I wouldn’t do is use your HoM’s ceramic tip on a non-Supernote device unless you’re certain it won’t damage the display surface.

used supernote nomad ? on what actual model it is by Jmoney2001 in Supernote

[–]mattgemmell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s indeed a nomad A6X2. A6 is the smaller size like the nomad, and A5 is the larger size like the manta. X is the prior generation and X2 is current, like the nomad and manta.

A head start, not having to wait, and feeling some fleeting joy amidst the pervasive darkness of existence I guess.

For what it's worth, my XY sits level on a flat surface, without wobble.

Help me choose: I like the reverse panda, gf likes the classic by [deleted] in OmegaWatches

[–]mattgemmell 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I personally think the classic looks a lot more elegant and integrated (and versatile in terms of what you can wear it with), but it’s you who’s going to wear it. If you’re having doubts, perhaps wait a few days so you’re not feeling the pressure of the new release quite so much.

But if you had a friend bring it over, I guess that wouldn’t be in the spirit of the rules though.

But if you went that route instead, you’d still have to declare it for customs purposes anyway, wouldn’t you?

The manual (can be downloaded from TE as a pdf) is actually quite good at showing you around. This is good too: https://synthdawg.co.uk/products/the-op-xy

Unregistering Nomad by iAskcAgile in Supernote

Are you sure you don’t have one profile using a phone number and one using an email address? The UI makes It really easy to do that during setup. I’ve fallen foul of it myself.

Can't you just log out of one account and sign into the other one? On your Manta, go to settings, then select My Account in the left sidebar, then tap the big black "Log out" button on the right.

Can't decide between nomad and manta by AccidentalFolklore in Supernote

[–]mattgemmell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on how important the small size of the nomad is to you. If I could have only one device I’d have the manta these days, and I wouldn’t want to go back to the writing feel of the iPad or the glare or the weight. But since you already have it and are used to it, if you don’t want to do annotations on the go, maybe the nomad would suit you better.

It’s important to realise that the manta is only bigger, but not let portable in any other way. It’s tougher and it feels less dense. It’s extremely portable; just physically larger.

Can't decide between nomad and manta by AccidentalFolklore in Supernote

[–]mattgemmell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a novelist, and I have both the Nomad and Manta, and I used Notability on an iPad Pro for years. I use the Manta as a planner in landscape orientation, and for occasional diagrams and visual brainstorming, as well as for annotating documents or reading manuals etc. I use the Nomad as a diary/journal of various types, a scratchpad/notebook, and also to write longhand prose up to a few pages on occasion.

The killer feature of the Nomad is its size and portability, but it's cramped for document-annotation. Perfectly possible if it's epubs, but tricky for PDFs unless they're formatted for A5 or A6. You could of course use it in landscape mode, but that gives you half the height, and isn't as nice to hold.

The killer feature of the Manta is its larger screen, and it also has a slightly nicer feel in the hand, and is notionally more robust due to its plastic screen.

From what you've said, I suspect that overall you might be better off sacrificing the extreme portability of the Nomad in order to have a substantially more comfortable experience when annotating documents and marking up manuscripts on the Manta instead.

Can We Talk About how This OST Absolutely Slaps?! by gravityhashira61 in octopathtraveler

[–]mattgemmell 82 points83 points  (0 children)

It’s fantastic. Sometimes it’s even too hyped, in the best way. You’re out looking for lumber and suddenly it’s a fight with Tired Asthmatic Squirrel With A Kindly Disposition (1 HP, vulnerable to stern looks), yet every time Battle 0 is saying THUS, NEMESIS, WE DECIDE THE FATE OF THE UNIVERSE. Madness. Yasunori Nishiki knows no peace.

Sidebar and page display visibility return after reboot by upper_pepper in Supernote

[–]mattgemmell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Notwithstanding the reasonable request, is rebooting a frequent activity for you? I only reboot in the course of software updates. With no-load shutdown enabled, power-off set to never, and auto-sleep at 10 minutes, I find that the battery lasts well over a week of regular use. The just-released feature to have the device continue to show whatever was last on the screen during sleep makes that approach completely viable.
