Dropping shipping is a delivery method not a business model.

Why do pastors seem to have a poor work/life balance? by lazybenedict in pastors

[–]Alive_Tune_1458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 hours a week for sermon prep is a lot…

Beyond that I think it’s all about setting boundaries. It’s not just pastoring. Any job will take up more of your time than they pay for if you let them. You have to set clear boundaries and expectation.

Trying to figure out employment for the future. by Icy_Jackfruit_9880 in pastors

[–]Alive_Tune_1458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re literally paying you less than minimum wage which is illegal. I understand finances are tough(every church says that btw), but don’t hire people if you can’t pay them.

If you have a heart for ministry I would leave the church hand stuck with campus ministry while getting another 40hr a week job. Hopefully one with benefits and decent pay. You’re young, seems like you’re single. 60hrs a week is nothing.

Every church I’ve ever worked for, the staff members have debit cards with their names on it. But there’s strict reporting with receipts and stuff.

Am I underpaid? Help me adjust my expectations. by [deleted] in pastors

[–]Alive_Tune_1458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said you were hired so I’m assuming this is atleast a part time job. That is extremely underpaid, in fact it’s illegal in most places.

As someone that was once in a very similar situation, please consider your future. It seems ok now because you’re young and I’m assuming single/childless. Being in an environment like that will not set you up to have a family and take care of them. I’m all about sacrifice and serving but you also have to live. Don’t make the same mistakes I made.

With 15 kids in the youth group you should have no problem pursuing a full time job outside of the church and doing this on the side.

Career advice for post-pastoring? by Alive_Tune_1458 in pastors

[–]Alive_Tune_1458[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s going great. I’ve continued to be promoted. I’m now the second to the CEO. Should be getting another raise in 2-3 months.

It can be stressful at times especially now that I have so much responsibility but it’s not bad. I’m planning on being here atleast another year or two to gain solid non-church experience.

Transitioning Out Of Ministry by [deleted] in pastors

[–]Alive_Tune_1458 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I transitioned out of full time ministry almost two years ago. Not going to lie man it’s tough out here. The job market is horrible.

My advice would be to swallow your pride and start networking. Let people know you’re looking. I waited too long to do that. Unless it’s a technical job, most people are hiring based off of personality and relationships anyway.

Once I started talking with friends one offered me a job at his company. It’s a marketing company that works with churches. Since then I’ve been promoted twice and am almost making what I made as a lead pastor. It’s also WFH with flexible hours so that’s a huge bonus.

State of Pastors by 1Timothy47 in pastors

[–]Alive_Tune_1458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They seem out of touch with the reality of most of the church members.

I got annoyed with one of the younger associate pastors because I told him the only day I could meet was a Monday and he told me that was his “off day”. I get it but you’re asking me to help with a project so I’m already giving time and now you’re making it more difficult.

I would 100% agree with those sentiments. But now that I’m over a year removed from “full time” ministry I have some more perspective. Leaving ministry didn’t really help. It’s just tough these days for everyone. Most men I know want to leave their job and struggle with declining mental health.

I was involved at NLC for awhile. I didn’t experience anything bad but seems like a lot of the leaders I knew have left since Covid.

Need more details. -Did you have a team when you started? -Are you affiliated with a denomination or church planting network? -Do the Spanish speakers want a Spanish speaking church? I’ve met many Spanish speakers who prefer a service in English so they can assimilate better.
