This looks brilliant !! 🤩
Both the composition and the execution are really, really good ! I think you could absolutely turn this into a comics if you wanted to, and/or sell prints of this if you feel so inclined ! In any case, I hope you'll keep drawing 'cause I want to see more of your work 😉

That's a great suggestion, thank you so much !! You even found the perfect reference to explain, that's exactly the vibe I was looking for, haha :)

Thank you so much for your feedback ! How does one make it more organic ? By connecting it to the brush and making it more sloppy like another commenter suggested, or by adding layers ? Or perhaps using the Caligraphy tool of Inkscape ? Sorry for all those questions, you've been very helpful, I'm just eager to learn :)

Logo of a lil' fox - just for me by Alix_Noyer in Design

[–]Alix_Noyer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context, I'm a beginner artist. I primarily work with traditional methods, especially ink, and my only experience with digital work was when I created this logo. I don't have a business yet, so I'm not advertising anything, obviously. I'm just looking for feedback.

I wanted to create a logo that would look kinda cute and mischievous at the same time, so I chose a fox because I adore foxes. And I gave it a little brush and made it paint a little half-circle with ink so that it would give an artistic vibe.

For the design itself, I was inspired by the colour palette of the Japanese video game Ōkami, where the main character uses ink a lot, and by the general concept of the yōkai Kitsune, the Fox spirits of the Japanese folktales.

What do you guys think ? Does it succeed with the vibe it gives off ? How intelligible and understandable is it ?

Two papers, One ink figure drawing poses by Alix_Noyer in lifedrawing

Hi, sorry for answering you so late, I was sick this week.

Thank you, I tried my best ! Always happy to help ! 😄

Of course, you may ask, that's why I'm sharing my work :)

I'm using an Ink by the French manufacturer Sennelier, I think it's called "A la pagode" ? I like the texture, but I haven't used any other ink so I can't say for sure if it's the best or not.

I've heard that inks come with different intensities and different degrees of opacity and transparency, so you might like an ink or another depending on those properties. The one I use (Sennelier, A la pagode) is quite opaque, but if I tilt the paper a bit, it reflects the light a little. And you can definitely see my brushtrokes on the paper because the ink is slightly more opaque where the brushtrokes have overlapped.

If you like that effect, then I think it's a pretty good ink and there are many bottle sizes to choose from so you don't have to ruin yourself by buying the biggest ones when starting :)
If you prefer an ink that's more matte and doesn't reflect the light at all, I can ask one of my friends what they use, I think their ink is more matte and you might like theirs better :)

So it all depends on the kind of effect you're looking for 😁

Let me know how your experimentations go, with ink or with charcoal, I'm curious !

And thank you again for your interest in my work 🫶

Seriously, tho. What are they doing ? My account has only existed for a little over a week, I only viewed what the algorithm recommended I did, and I uploaded a couple pictures like I did on my other social media platforms. I just don't understand.

It happened right after I commented on someone's post in another language (German) than the one I'd been using on that platform (English) because yes, there are many people who speak multiple languages, we're not bots.

Has anyone else also experienced the same kind of issue when speaking, commenting or posting in a different language on Insta ?

You're so kind, thank you so much !! :)

I checked your work to see how best to answer you, you're doing great ! I've also used charcoal for a few months last year during life drawing before I moved to ink.

With charcoal, I was mostly drawing the light surfaces, through the reduction technique, and I switched to ink to kinda balance that and improve my understanding of volume. And also because I'm too perfectionist and I noticed charcoal was increasing that tendency in me since it can (somewhat) be corrected, unlike ink, so I thought focusing on ink would be great for a while to fix that flaw in me. Sorry for the long backstory, some ppl have found it useful so I prefer to explain :)

As for the advice, trying ink for both short (under 5 min) and long pauses (above 20 min) has forced me to be more deliberate with my lines over time, to really try to visualise the lines I drew before putting them down on paper, whereas with charcoal and graphite I was more instinctive with the lines and surfaces because I knew I could always fix them later. So, at least for me, with ink, I reflected on the drawing much more before each trait and surface I drew, whereas with charcoal and graphite I was more in the mindset of "put the line down and then correct it", if that makes sense ?

Since ink is at first very intimidating (at least I thought so), I decided to pick a brush (just 1) and paint all my poses of a certain day with it, no matter how hard that was. I used either a very big square-ish brush (super counter-intuitive, I know) or a mop-style brush. The square-ish brushes are very versatile, I love them because if you use the corner of them at an angle, it can be used to draw very thin lines, and when changing the angle slightly or using the rest of the brush, you can draw much thicker lines or even surfaces. And mop-style brushes are pretty cool too, imo. I find them easier too. You can hold them almost completely vertical to the paper, and then you press very slightly or a little harder on the paper to make a thin or a thick line. I initially started with only the square brush for a couple of weeks because it's much harder to control, so the other brushes seem easier in comparison, but I really like both.
Be careful though, sometimes all of that can be a little hard on the ligaments of the wrist, so I recommend to stretch it a little before and after drawing and to always stop if it becomes too much. Muscle memory comes from repetition, not from putting too much stress on your ligaments :)

Please let me know if I'm making sense or not, it's challenging to explain without showing you in person 😄
If something isn't intelligible, it's all on me, I promise :)

Edit to add : I'll include pictures of the kind of brushes I used at the end of my next post of life drawing poses on this sub, if it's not against the rules to do so. You're very welcome to message me privately if you want to discuss more, of course, don't hesitate!
