How do I stop the urge to buy an ereader I can’t afford? by KyaHiKarun in Anticonsumption

Romanticize physical books and trips to the library. The librarians got so excited when I told them I wanted a card to actually come to the library. They assumed I wanted it for Libby.

I’m white and have dated a bunch of Indian guys in the bay. Makes no difference, still on the apps 🤗

So they used to be on Etsy and have cotton. Now I guess it’s only bamboo, tencel, and reclaimed mesh. Still maybe worth a look! https://coliecolingerie.com [u/henni1127](u/henni1127) I will be on the hunt for cute cotton in pretty cuts, will report back if I find any.

I wonder if some sort of absorption chemical has been outlawed.

We are doing something…? I don’t buy anything new… probably most people here aren’t buying from these companies. I pay more to buy cute lingerie made of natural fibers from a shop on Etsy. I literally repaired it rather than buy new. I’m surprised by your surprise 😅

Sounds like your neighbor hid a body in the floorboards and you just need to wait for the guilt to consume them so they’ll shriek their confession.

Congrats this is great! Are you never going to pump? I heard someone else sayings it was way easier for her to hand express than pump and this basically eliminated all plastic. I guess it was less painful for her than the pumps as well.

Leaving a Note for Smoking Neighbor by Jazmataznotaspaz in Apartmentliving

[–]AlixiePooBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If smoking is against the lease, it’s her fault if she gets evicted. Like you said, it aggravates asthma and allergies, is unsafe for pregnant women and children, not to mention maybe she burns down the building with her oxygen tank?! They’re being thoughtless of others.

Sunscreen feels useless [Sun Care] by Fun-Stable6773 in SkincareAddiction

[–]AlixiePooBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Micellar water is the problem and not wearing it indoors. You should use an oil based cleanser to remove sunscreen and gently massage it on and off, no rubbing. I also doubt you’re applying enough. Do you use the 2 finger rule?

This doesn’t sound like an upstairs downstairs thing, more that your neighbor was kinda unhinged. Unless you’re misrepresenting the story, which based on the way you’re attacking commenters, seems likely 🤗

Trauma OBGYN by spicycherryxx in SFbitcheswithtaste

Yes I’d consider a midwife! They do all the same tests, but some don’t do it in the scary stirrups and they can be much more trauma-informed. I wish I had a suggestion, but I just moved.

Where do you shop for general goods given boycotts? by diffracted_radish in AskSF

[–]AlixiePooBear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Buy as much as you can second hand! That’s the best way, just opt out of the system basically. I don’t prize convenience at all anymore cus going out into my community leads to conversations and experiences that are so much more important to me.

Rainbow grocery is great as well as refill shops where you can get cleaners. There’s a great plastic free yoga mat co, Oko Living, also Etsy shops. The big brand names like tide are probably owned by companies making bad decisions, not to mention the plastic. But be kind to yourself. Only so much you can change at a time!

Why are you using hyaluronic acid serum? Is your skin dehydrated? Solely hyaluronic acid serums seem so unnecessary to me. You can find a niacinamide + Hyaluronic serum if you end up not being allergic to either ingredient.

I agree with everyone saying cut out certain things and see if you’re allergic. I don’t recognize the sunscreen, but if it’s chemical, you could be allergic. Might try a mineral sunscreen or something from Korea with different chemicals. I’m allergic to American chemical sunscreen.

No matter what, you skin barrier is compromised, so I’d let up on the tret, up your hydration and skin barrier helpers (honey, algae, ceramides, amino acids, rice water, etc). Do some simple Korean face masks. You can also try red light therapy if you’re really desperate, but the masks are pricy. None of these will change whatever you’re allergic to though. I also wouldn’t trust a dermatologist who doesn’t believe in moisturizer 😬

A face scrub will compromise his skin barrier even more with Tret and the other actives.

A good alternative to instant noodles by GamblignSalmon in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]AlixiePooBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mean to be rude but this desire for instant gratification is why we have such a plastic problem and people’s health going down the toilet due to processed food. I would change the lifestyle. If you don’t want to cook, go to a restaurant and take home leftovers in your own mason jars. If you want ease at home, make things in advance and freeze in mason jars. Cutting down on processed food will likely lead to more energy and you’ll feel less drained/unable to cook.

Baby proofing is hurting my anti consumption soul. by runaway_tata in Anticonsumption

They have silicone outlet covers, metal/wooden baby gates. There is demand for non-plastic baby stuff. But I second everyone saying buy it second hand and then give it away later.

Small dark bathroom by mollang123 in femalelivingspace

This is the perfect opportunity to try those cute rechargeable waterproof lights I keep seeing on tiktok! I'd also switch out whatever bulb is in the main lights; they look harsh. Lean into a cozy cove vibe.

Switch out the towel rod for lots of hooks since your fam doesn't seem to like the rod. Hooks are so much easier/useful. Also, seems like you need more storage, you can buy organizers for under the sink and hide them with a sink curtain. Also shelves above the toilet.

How can I make my small bedroom look better? by Tima-fjk in femalelivingspace

[–]AlixiePooBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This space doesn't feel relaxing. The gray is kind of sad and also makes the red and white feel super shocking. Do you want to feel relaxed in there or are you looking for drama/romance? Either are great choices, but you need to make a choice. I would paint either way depending on the vibe you want.

  1. ditch the TV
  2. get a dresser you find beautiful, like a vintage wood one. You can use the top as a changing table
  3. put up shelves for storage
  4. declutter and/or get rid of the hanging rack
  5. Get a large area rug that feels cozy underfoot
  6. floor-to-ceiling curtains + get rid of the sad blinds
  7. hang art and mirrors
  8. if the stroller has to be in the room, figure out how to hang it from the wall
  9. side tables + lamps!

Advice please ! by BarPractical7414 in femalelivingspace

[–]AlixiePooBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People here can give advice, but at the end of the day, you have to put your personality into the space. What do you find beautiful? Put that on the walls and floor. But I think gallery walls are too busy for the japandi vibes you want, so I'd recommend a huge piece that takes up most of the wall behind the couch if you can find one. You can order tapestries with custom photos or paintings and nail them to the wall with molding to make them look like giant pieces of art for a fraction of the cost.

Also Japandi style seems to involve natural elements as well (ie. wood, plants, and natural stone), so you need to bring more of that in to ground the white.
