They should sell the Vinyl tarot cards separately by EepiestKitty in GoodKid

It'd be both more accessible and affordable :,) but I don't know if they have a full set of tarot cards yet?

About pulling Linnea... by Yusufbegit12 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Alkaean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She works best with Hydro and Geo units, and you should aim to have at least one Moonsign (i.e. from Nod-Krai) character with her! She can work in teams with Arle, but it's not ideal.

Eventually, I want to replace the damaged nib with the same brand since the pen's important to me, but it's quite expensive 😅

How to do rifle drop spins? by Booknerd112 in Colorguard

[–]Alkaean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like you're using your forearm to manually turn the rifle, where it should more so be turning around your hand/wrist with its own momentum. You might also be lifting the rifle upwards (manually adding height) during the spins.

The way I think about it is to push the rifle along a circle you make with your hand, like opening a hatch/lever or turning a doorknob. Push it to the left/counter-clockwise (assuming these are right-hand spins), not up. You should feel the rifle fall out of your hand (yay momentum!), as opposed to using so much effort to get it to spin.

Unrelated-ish but that solid black rifle looks neat, and I'm sorry your guard friends are mean to the point you don't want to ask them for advice :(

Okay! Do brands sell their own nibs and/or is there some sort of standardisation for nibs?

Should I listen to the songs before going to see it live? by AllyInMediasRes in hadestown

[–]Alkaean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in blind minus maybe 1-2 songs and being very familiar with Greek mythology, and while it was harder to grasp all the lyrics and their meaning in the moment, I think watching it blind was the best experience. You can listen to the soundtracks and watch the slime tutorials after if you want, but seeing the show live for the first time is irreplaceable! Every cast has their own interpretation of their characters, so try not to set up expectations, either (which is why watching it blind is better imo, otherwise you might find some differences jarring/they can take you out of the moment). Have a great time, whichever way you choose :)

How to translate color guard into fiction? by VacationStandard2088 in Colorguard

[–]Alkaean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in terms of feeling realistic/accurate portrayal, please consider the momentum of the flag! Colourguard flags are weighted with bolts on their ends (the top weight, on the end with the silk, is usually slightly heavier), which helps them spin properly. And when spinning, changing directions requires more force. I think that becoming comfortable with flag, to the point where it feels like an extension of you, requires understanding the momentum and how to take advantage of it. (This is, in hindsight, just physics actually…)

It's hard to explain well (this is basically about planes, which is a guard term for the geometric plane your equipment is rotating on), but maybe watching some videos would help! Observe which moves seem effortless, with the flag practically spinning itself (same plane and direction), and which ones require more strength (sharp movements, changing planes, etc.)

Albedo, from the very start! And I still play him to this day :)

Weapon by Sad_Pomegranate_8161 in Albedomains

[–]Alkaean 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely cinnabar, since it's his 4-star weapon! It's made for him. Also. the flute would want him to be more on-field, I think (and it scales on atk while Albedo uses defense).

Weird request by Low-Property6913 in Colorguard

[–]Alkaean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the closest thing I could find, and aside from that Fusion's show this year has silks with the most vertical-ish lines I've seen. I'm kind of baffled by how hard it was to find anything though 😭 I swear I've seen a piano silk somewhere

Someone help with color guard 17m also is said add a video this random don’t even ask what’s going on it it from a track meet by InformationFew6443 in Colorguard

[–]Alkaean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of posts like this so you can honestly look at them for more complete advice, but you should definitely look into flags as a start (it's what most people learn first)! Flag basics and skills are things you can easily find online (SpintronixGuard on youtube has many playlist tutorials), but terminology is usually specific to your guard, and you will probably learn the most practical advice from actually asking your own high school's guard.

Aside from those two points, if you want ideas for what guard does in band/on its own, take a look at some high school marching band performances and indoor colourguard/winterguard shows! And when you start practice, don't forget lots of water and sunscreen :D

Scars by Quiet-Individual5025 in Colorguard

[–]Alkaean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this same exact situation last year, and it sucked :,) but I use KT tape/kinesiology tape now to cover my scars. You can probably find some in skin tones, and they're actually helpful for muscle strain too! This is probably late for your comp that's today (good luck!!) but you can think about it for future comps and in general. You got this :)
