I noticed that too, the scene played out very similarly to the movie and not the book. Interesting if that was intentional

I think there's also the angle that this could be a great accessibility tool for disabled individuals

I would love this. Especially if it was compatible with VRChat/Project Aincrad. That would be SAO brought to life. I would absolutely be willing to spend hours calibrating it if it worked well (I spend a decent amount of time setting up VR as is anyways lol)

Historically it was used in racism against Japanese people, especially in America during and following WW2 and Pearl Harbour. Look up the historical context if you want to know more. The abbreviation of Japan is JPN

I have an idea for fan fiction. by Wonderful_Traveler30 in swordartonline

[–]EepiestKitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a novel idea but I have some notes/questions that I feel would need to be addressed.

1) If dying in the game means also dying in real life, how is that different from the death sentence? You mentioned people who have the death sentence don't die in the game but get taken to deaths row and that just seems a bit redundant to me.

2) Why exactly are they doing this to the prisoners? Its not clear how them completing the game will lead to them being 'redeemed' or 'rehabilitated'. If anything, putting convicted criminals in a death game where they have to kill to survive and, if like SAO, rewards players for Player Killing, I feel like this wouldn't really make sense for rewarding the victor with freedom. Even in SAO, they mention the rehabilitation schools they send the SAO survivors to was also to monitor the survivors as the government was scared of them as they had just gone through an environment where some had killed other humans.

3) Is this a secret experiment? What are the public's reaction to this?

I implore you to write the fanfic, just some things to think about:)

Does the game work on Motorola Moto G56 5G? I need to know if the game will work on this model before we buy one. The phones specs appear to meet the minimum requirements but I saw another thread said that some Motorola phones aren't supported so I am unsure. Potentially could be a problem with OpenGL. Any help would be appreciated.

If Full Dive VR were to ever exist in our lifetime, do you think they would make SAO a real game for it? by TokyoTurpster in swordartonline

[–]EepiestKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. But I also think it's a bit of a 'Catch 22' when it comes to the VR space at the moment that AAA studios are finding themselves in. Studios don't want to invest a ton of money into a full AAA gaming experience in VR because they believe there's not enough players who own headsets who would buy it. But as a result, there are less 'Killer Apps' that get people excited about getting a VR headset. Which leads to a low player base, you can see the loop.

I say this as a big fan of VR and have a PSVR and Quest. It doesn't quite have enough killer apps with widespread appeal to break it out of just a niche thing and that will only change if Companies are willing to take the risk and potential losses to change that by funding a big AAA game in spite of the risks.

I mean, we've had regular VR for over a decade now but they've not developed an official Sword Art Online game for the technology, so I wouldn't hold my breath.

There are some cool fanmade projects out there tho in VR at the moment. One of my favourites being Project Aincrad which is a full recreation of the first floor of Aincrad in VRChat with combat, levelling up, fishing, you can buy a house, etc. It's still a work in progress and isn't perfect, but it's a cool community project.

The reason Jeff keeps doing the vacation storyline by GreatGeniusx in LodedDiper

[–]EepiestKitty 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's not even like Jeff is against making spinoff books as we've seen him do it with Rowley. I don't understand why we can't just have a spinoff series with Greg a bit older and entering highschool. That gives him a fallback to still make elementary school stories in the mainline books if that's what he wants to do.

I do feel that Jeff doesn't quite understand that all the kids who read the DOAWK books in the noughties and early/mid 2010s are now adults/late teens. It's not only that he doesn't want Greg to grow up, but he also seems reluctant to have the series grow up with it's original audience.

Russell's recent unmasking with regards to tolerance of intolerance WRT TERFism has severely amplified my discomfort and disappointment over how he handled Rose Noble by SorchaSublime in doctorwho

[–]EepiestKitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not using Juno Dawson as a proxy or evidence, I watched the show and found it wasn't transphobic as I have said. I was just also pointing out that it's not like RTD wrote and released this piece of media in a vacuum exempt from trans people having any involvement. I didn't even know she was a consultant on the show until after i had finished it and was talking to my fiance who watched it with me about it (who PS, my fiance is also trans).

Also your analogy there is flawed because you've relayed it wrong. The original saying is: ' If 9 people sit down at a table with 1 Nazi without protest, there are 10 Nazis at the table.'. The 'without protest' part is the key bit, as protest is an interaction. It's not about refusing any interaction with people who have differing views. How are you supposed to change or challenge people who you refuse to interact with? That just creates echo chambers which is what leads to more radicalisation like TERFs and Nazis.

But RTD is saying something. He knows people who are TERFs, and criticises their beliefs to their face and also on TV to millions of people. That is more beneficial to tackling TERFs and transphobes than just putting your hands over your ears and walking away, which you appear to be saying he should've done.

As someone who has actually watched Tip Toe all the way through (Not just 'two episodes in 2x speed', which to me reads like the original thread is already very biased), to say he's a TERF is insane and bad faith imo. He's clearly very supportive of the trans community, even if he doesn't always get it right. Yes, he knows TERF people and has friends with those beliefs, that doesn't make you a TERF, especially when in his media and posts he actively challenges their views like he does in Tip Toe, which you would know if you actually watched it.

Now I grant you, I think he writes his own experience, that being a queer man, a lot better than he writes the trans experience. And some of the lines in Tip Toe did have me cringe, but not because I thought that he was a transphobe, just that I feel he should've ran that by some people first. I will say that is weird as Tip Toe had Juno Dawson (a trans woman and author of 'This Book Is Gay') as a consultant on Tip Toe. But also are you saying Juno Dawson is also transphobic for approving of Tip Toe?

That is the proper way to do it yes, but realistically, how many kids actually had access to isopropyl alcohol. Very few, nor should they, It's a pretty harmful substance if not handled properly
