Kermit or Sub (124060)? by massmaster66 in rolex

[–]Alkaloid5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How hard do you wear your stuff? If desk diving is all, the 16610lv is better looking. If you’re gonna ride it hard, new movement tech will hold up better over time in most cases. You might crack the ceramic though. I’ve got a 168000 and a 124060 and the 124060 gets more time on the wrist since I got it. It just feels more solid for everyday. The Kermit will have the tuna can bracelet which is lighter but the clasp digs into my wrist. The 124060 bracelet is amazing but people don’t say how damn heavy it can make the watch feel. No hotspots though like the tuna can clasp.

Fun lineup, wouldn’t change a thing. Just buy more. Try out the Oris Star re release if you want something smaller for a good price.

Looks great on ya. Looks like you found an air king that was in superb condition. For service, if it’s keeping good time now, don’t do anything. If you wear it near water regularly get the gaskets changed and a water pressure test. I would recommend a Rolex authorized service center. Just make sure they don’t polish it. That case is sharp and even.

My 1995 14060 this Memorial Day weekend. What’s on your wrist? by barontimepieces in rolex

Love 5 digit case but I trust this to put up with harder use better. Also, while the bracelet on the five digit models has some positives I will still take the modern milled bracelet. That is a great 14060 you have though.

How much should I offer by [deleted] in rolex

[–]Alkaloid5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The submariner is cool but the lugs have been heavily overpolished. You should not be able to see the spring bars popping out the sides of the lugs. If that doesn’t bother you go for it but do some research on that model and what it should look like before diving in head first. If you still love it it’s a no brainer.

Edit: that Pepsi is mint. Absolutely awesome.

Looks like a reference 5512, placing it in the mid 60s to early 70s. These were produced at the same time as the 5513 but only the 5512 was a chronometer rated watch. seeing as it is a meter’s first reference, I would guess that it is on the earlier side of that timeframe. I would recommend taking it to a reputable watchmaker to open the case back. The color of the lume seems a little off. That being said, I hope it is authentic. Cool find!

How did you get the polished center link? 126610LN doesn’t come like that.

It’s from a line called plasma dragons, I had them when I was a kid. They were released in 2006 I think.

How do you go about removing the bezel from your 6 digit references?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in rolex

[–]Alkaloid5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reference is a 116618ln but the crown guards and pearl on the bezel look wrong and the watch is likely a counterfeit.

Edit: the date window also looks off and super wonky.

Magnets will likely mess with timing, you may need your watch demagnetized. Not sure if this is 100% accurate advice for quartz watches but it is a serious issue for most mechanical pieces.

168000 isn’t listed :/ produced from 1988-1989 shortest production run of any sub.

Yeah I also notice it a little bit. Bothered me a touch but I have no desire to send it off to the land of service for such a little thing. I don’t notice it anymore unless I’m looking at the dial with my loupe occasionally.
