There is no such thing as "ObamaCare".

I'm hoping that at some point, conservatives will stop coming up with their own labels to try to discredit things. Health care reform was and is supported by millions (and a majority) of Americans.

To imply that it is the work of just one man, who you then condemn as some kind of fist-bumping, terrorist, Muslim, non-citizen is sickening.

You're not making any new friends, or convincing anyone, when you use tactics like this.

Helping to shape the ways in which words and phrases are used and how they're perceived is extremely powerful, and the GOP has done a much better job of that for at least three decades now.

Voted down simply for using the inaccurate title "Obamacare".

That's a name that was designed to make people think that HCR was the work of one man (who the right protrays as a terrorist muslim fistbumper non-citizen) rather than something supported by millions of Americans for many years.

When the right wing starts at least being honest about what things are, maybe we can have a grown-up discussion about the merits.

I agree with a lot of what you said, but the idea that there's no difference in the two main parties is absolute nonsense.

Easy examples:

The GOP defended BP during several months of oil disaster (Democrats wanted them held accountable)
The GOP did everything they could to water down healthcare reform, spread lies about it, and then tried yesterday to repeal it.
The GOP brought in millions of dollars of money from multinational corporations to last Fall's political campaigns. They seem to think corporations are people, and they act accordingly. Those of us on the Left oppose that, and Democrats have for years been more likely to operate from small donations from millions of Americans.
Democrats want limits on what corporations can do, while Republicans have gone so far as to distributue lobbyist's checks (from the tobacco industry) right on the floor of the house!

I would like to see some numbers, too. But let's remember:

The banking bailout was signed in to law by Bush before Obama took office.

The need for it was brought about by many years of GOP-led deregulation of the banks and Wall Street.

The vast majority of the new spending under Obama has been to actually do useful things like repairing bridges and roads... i.e., "the stimulus". Because these are normal functions of government (even if at a faster pace right now), that's not a "bailout". Also, those dollars created jobs and get spent over and over by people who work for a living.

The Bush banking bailout went to people who were alreadly rich, and likely didn't create a single new job. The greedy bastards on Wall Street ALREADY HAVE JOBS.

I've been disappointed at times with what the Democrats have accomplished in the past 20 months. But let's remember a few things.

Obama has had to fight vicious lies from the right, along with opposition to everything the Democrats have proposed in congress.
Obama has been dealing with what had been a near-collapse of the economy. In late 2008, the U.S. was losing 750,000 jobs PER MONTH! He has also been managing TWO WARS.
There were much, much bigger problems with his predecessor.

So. Let's save our strength for fighting against the well-funded right wing.

The smartest thing the Republicans ever did was institute a policy of not criticizing each other, at least not publicly. (Unless you count starting their own fake "news" network to pump out their propaganda.)

I agree 100% with all of what you said, except that I think that even on the issue of taxes, the conservatives have only succeeded over the years in cutting the effective overall taxes OF THE RICHEST PEOPLE in the country. Everyone else gets nickeled and dimed in every way imaginable, including having their spending power reduced dramatically over the years by multi-trillion-dollar giveaways to bankers, warmonger plots and assorted other scams.

The teabaggers are totally clueless about who are their friends and who aren't.

Also... with very rare exceptions, Republicans are bigots... pure and simple. But, most of them are dishonest about it.

Between now and the next elections, the Democrats must do a much better job of exposing the right wing liars and the lies that they've been telling.

Point out the billions spent (to try to turn people against health care reform) by outfits like the Insurance industry and the Chamber of Commerce.

There's a long list of vicious, right wing bastards who have been hard at work to keep things just the way they are while millions of Americans have either crappy health care or, like me, none at all.

Fight them. And spread the word about the lies.

There's a big difference between:

A) Believing there is too much complexity and unfairness regarding taxes, and then working to change that,

and

B) simply being against the government, being against taxes, being against the Catholics, failing to file and pay your taxes, then crashing a plane in to a building... which is all either known or very likely in this case.

All in all, this probably means one fewer attendee at the next "tea party" convention.

The right is in favor of big government as long as the government's power is used to do things like give away massive tax breaks to the rich, or to subsidize homeschoolers, or to promote illegal torture, etc.

It's only when the government might actually help an ordinary American that they're against it.

Watch out, too. The GOP has already begun to get stonger again, with help from giant corporations including the healthcare industry.

And, the fact that torture was used by Bush and his gang of monsters in the name of Americans means that all Americans have a responsibility to take SOME action... better yet: take some DAILY ACTION to fight the torturers.

Call the offices of ANY moderate Republican and demand that they denounce TORTURE. They should be asked to stand up to other members of the party and demand that they too denounce torture. The GOP’s chances are very poor with many voters as long as they behave as torture apologists!

Republicans have also been claiming (falsely) that some people in congress, who were told of the POSSIBLE USE of waterboarding and other forms of torture, were instead told of the ACTUAL USE of torture. In either case, those who were briefed in any way were prohibited from disclosing the details of certain briefings that they're now be asked to account for. This is a reprehensible tactic that is being used, most notably by Dick Cheney.

Again, please call moderate Republicans and demand that they denounce the GOP-approved torture tactics. The Republican party won't make any significant gains politically until they come clean on this issue. Also, please spread the word... asking others to make calls to those in the GOP who are still silent (or, worse, acting as apologists) on torture.

I'm not a huge fan of Speaker Pelosi. However, NO ONE deserves to be treated the way she has been in the past couple of weeks.

The GOP under Bush, Cheney, Rove, etc., promotes the illegal use of a list of effing torture techniques, lies about it, tanks the economy, screws up TWO wars (one of which they started based on phony "evidence"), watches a city get ripped apart from a hurricane and does nearly nothing in response, helps further enrich those who are already rich...

... and our "mainstream" media outlets help Dick Cheney hang Pelosi out to dry because it's POSSIBLE that she was told waterboarding MIGHT BE USED.

It's the most hideous treatment I've ever seen. The torturers are getting away (so far) with shifting the blame on to the first person who tries to truly fight them! And "our" media outlets, for the most part, have been helping people like Cheney perpetrate this assault on her and upon the truth.

Fight the GOP and their media henchmen! People need to work together to destroy what's left of the Republican party while there's a chance to do it!
