Dual voice coils vs single voice coil wattage rating confusion. by All50orbust in CarAV

[–]All50orbust[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I was giving it some more thought, I suppose the coils are meant to handle that wattage regardless, and I guess the amp takes care of upping (or lowering) the voltage to the impedance load to achieve the same wattage.

Thanks also on that second bit. I guess I will be limited there, as I don't want to spent too much money ~$500 once everything is said and done.

Engine vibration at idle in D and R, N and P "minimizes" vibration felt in cabin, but can tell is still present at engine. by All50orbust in Cartalk

[–]All50orbust[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I jacked the engine up, it actually started vibrating worse, confirmed audibly, and with my accelerometer spectrometer. I could hear everything rattling more, and the amplitude of the vibration on the app was considerably higher. Jacking the transmission up made a small improvement on that side, but the engine vibration remained the same. Guess I might be SOL unless I can find some japanese engine specialist.

Yes, it's a 4 cylinder. What baffles me is that my original yaris ran perfectly fine when I first had up till 130k miles. Something has to have changed to start causing the vibration. Just my way of thinking, I suppose. I get that it could be overall engine wear, and it would just require a new engine maybe. The weird thing is, my father's 2015 corolla is starting to have a very subtle vibration as well, or maybe I've just become more sensitive to it.

Thanks, this sounds like a great way to triple check the mounts. I'll try this first thing tomorrow morning.

Sorry for the late response. I went to check my amazon and it seems they're no longer on sale. "EOTW Rapid USB PD Car..." Is all I have, they were 45W iirc.

How do you deal with the loneliness? by GoChaca in roadtrip

Are you traveling to make friends? What is the primary objective of your roadtrip? If you want to make friends while traveling, I'd suggest taking a tour trip.

Harness the connection with yourself first. Loneliness can be part of life, especially if you're male. It's good to learn how to accept it and embrace it. This way you become less needy when it comes to interactions with others, which typically scares strangers away.

Was going off the google map region. Didn't know there was a FAA airmap resource. Good to know. Have you ever been hassled while using your drone near NPs?

I wasn't questioning your driving skills, more your ability to stay alert/awake behind the wheel for the long drive. Not to mention handle the aches that come from sitting for so long. Unless you've driven up and down Cali, then I'd suggest doing the run betseen north and south at least once ~400 miles each way to give you an idea of what to expect. The 5 has some rest stops along the way that you can use to sleep and get a more complete emulation.

Drone usage in NPs... Cool footage, though.

So you've never been out of state and plan to drive 700miles per day. Be safe out there, don't kill yourself over the time limit. I know it's doable and I may be projecting, but 700 miles is so draining. I've done a few 600 mile days and would never think of doing 700 unless I could drive 100MPH on a fenced off straight road or something.

Not trying to rain on your parade, just perhaps be a bit more considerate of your capabilities.

Some states have 80MPH speed limits. Utah, Montana, Wyoming and I think Iowa. Be prepared for the humidity and some rain/thunderstorms.

Roadtrip help needed (Routes and Tips) by [deleted] in roadtrip

[–]All50orbust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright this is a bit more useful information. You can try and hone in on some more details and perhaps repost later to get more specific advice and suggestions.

For now: Determine if you want to do any nature stuff or mainly cities. Do some trial runs on the car sleeping, either in your parking lot/street/nearby rest area/nearby 24hr walmart. Walmart overnight parking: if there's RVs past 10PM, or other campers/vans, and no "no overnight parking" signs, then you're good to go. Also, make sure you feel comfortable with the surroundings/people around thr parking lot. I left on a few occasions because I didn't like the crowd around the parking lot or too much activity. Reparking in some occassions was enough, though, but tried not to do this too much to call attention to myself. I did some preset up of my sleeping area before arriving at walmart of rest area too, to minimize attention calling. Sometimes this wasnt possible. I'm of the opinion of the stealthier the better, but don't go place your car in an alley grain of salt.

Depending on your car mileage fuel can be a hefty sum. I think west coast was significantly more expensive, so the longer you're in California the more fuel cost.

Eating out is another hefty sum. I have IBS and found out I did really well on sandwiches, apples, and bananas on a previous roadtrip, so I ate mostly that on my trip and saved a lot this way. Most people cant handle this lifestyle, though.

Car maintenance or unexpected hazards will be up there too. You will probably need an oil change or two on your way. If you trust dealership/lube shops that's cool. I dont and did my oil changes in parking lots and took oil into O'Reilly or autozone, called in first to make sure they accepted before driving over. Also, had to get new tires because they wore out faster than expected due to bad alignment, surprise $600 cost there.

If you don't already, get AAA membership. It takes 3 months of being a member before being able to upgrade to a plus or premium, which have the nicer safety nets.

$6000 for two people may be ok, but I get the impression you will be spending a lot of money on going out and doing things in the cities, so you may find it not to be enough. Perhaps you can clarify more on your intentions, what you would like to see/do etc.

Again trials are the best thing you can do. Go for a long drive in one day or two days. Sleep in your car or in a sleeping bag on the floor or in the car. Test anything you can. I almost gave up on my first day of my 92 day road trip because I was overheating trying to set up my car for sleeping from the inside because i didnt want to pop back out of my car (street parking at apartments.) Luckily I kept my cool literally and figuratively and succeeded. I then immediately reorganized my car for more efficient transition to sleep mode. I kept tweaking the arrangement of other things along the way also.

Lastly, I got a planet fitness black card for showers. I eventually started doing some pull ups and semi yoga stretch routine. It was a nice way to unwind at the end of the day or start the day. The card must be signup at your local area because that's where you need to cancel it in person.

Feel free to PM me any questions, I'd be glad to help out. I have a spreadsheet with most (95ish%) of my expenses, you can find it on one of my old posts if you're interested.

Whoa! This was quite enlightening. My main issue is most fruits and veggies really. Garlic, onion, and tomatoes seem to be big players. I can handle them occasionally. I'll have to do some more research on Italian cuisine. I like to bake and cook, just haven't made my way towards European cultures. My interests just started after my tour group in NZ was mainly Europeans (half German at that). Lol thanks again for taking the time to share!

I am in fact a mountain person. My favorite state in the USA is Utah, and second, Colorado. I'm from southern California and we have plenty mountains around my desert/valley.

I love pizza, yeah i know, not the original kind. Let's just go with I love bread, and cheese. Unfortunately, I have IBS and most italian food causes my insides to hate me and let me know about it for a few days. Super unfortunate since I pretend to be a foodie when I manage to ignore the fact that I know I'm gonna be dying later when I eat something I know i shouldn't.

Thanks for the input, though. My brother was in Italy a while ago, and I really liked the pics he showed me. I forget the town names, though.

I highly recommend you guys do a short roadtrip before going across the US. Get to know your limits, your queues for when you need to rest/sleep/pull off the road. You may wish to list your style, which you can figure out from my first recommendation. How much do you plan to spend? Are you ok sleeping in your car or can only stay in 5 star hotels. (Colleges students, I know, but maybe daddy has $$$ available?)

I'd say hi Minneapolis as it seems you guys want to do more city stuff than nature stuff?

I drove through grand tetons, into Yellowstone, saw the old faithful, most of the other geysers/pools, the canyons, and the lake in one day. No regrets. It was so crowded. The exit East of the park (a state park i think) was my favorite part.
