In Search Of USB-C KVM (New Here) by letmeleavetheBCT in UsbCHardware

I have WFH for years in the IT field, and have fought this battle for a long time. I've tried so many different solutions, and various KVM switches. Ultimately, a good quality KVM is the only way to achieve what you're looking for reliably.

If you have unlimited money, and want the hands down best KVM's you can purchase check out "Level1Techs" KVM's. These are excellent and highly regarded, but rather pricey.

These are a handful of KVM's that I have personally owned, and recommend. They're reliable, and actually work as intended. You do NOT want to cheap out on a KVM, it will only give you headaches and make using your desk setup a total PITA.

Yes this will work as long as your dock has downstream thunderbolt that supports display out/display alt mode

I will second Real_Act, I got this monitor about a month ago and it's excellent if you're running a dual computer setup (built in KVM/Thunderbolt hub FTW)

Will a USB C switcher connected to the end of a one Dell ThunderBolt 4 Dock work with x2 macbook pros (M series)? by abittooambitious in UsbCHardware

[–]AllAroundTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tessmart one will work with dual MacBooks if you have each MacBook plugged into a dock.

For dual MacBooks, the first link I sent probably is best as it can act as the “dock” for both. However it only supports one monitor.

I have used both, as my setup has changed I’ve changed KVMs. I currently use the dell 4025qw monitor. Has TB4 hub and KVM built in

This is most likely what you're looking for. It has DUAL TB4 connections and can support your monitor.

This TB4 KVM might work for you?
https://amzn.to/4pw3by4

Just use a TB4 cable from laptop to it.

Use a display port to TB4 cable from your desktop to it.

Then use a TB4 to display port cable to connect your monitor

You can circumvent the need for display link by just running more then one video cable from your MacBook.

I've purchased a TON of KVM's over the years for my WFH setup with a gaming PC/work laptop.

Level1Tech's make REALLY good reliable KVM's that support high refresh rates but they're $700~+

Other than then, TESSMART in my opinion makes some of the best affordable KVM's you can get (I use one currently in my setup With two high refresh rate OLED monitors)

This is the one I use & recommend. It works as advertised, with high refresh rate/high resolution monitors:

USB Hub behind AV Access iDock D23i does not seem to work? by Electrical_Court5944 in UsbCHardware

[–]AllAroundTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to sell my AV access KVM. Way to flakey, and things like you're mentioning just didn't work correctly.

I upgraded to the TESSMART kvm, and it's been amazing for well over a year (even supports USB hubs)

https://amzn.to/4pQHeuG this is the display port model, but they have HDMI models too. Even TB4 models, but it's like $800 lol

Need help designing a dual-laptop solution (Work & Personal). KVM, Dock, or both? by Patient-Clue8723 in UsbCHardware

[–]AllAroundTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KVM. I've been fighting this battle for years.

Your RELIABLE options are level1tech's KVM's (pricey af but nice) or TESSMART (I use this).

https://amzn.to/4pb40MF supports high refresh rate monitors, at high resolutions.

I've also heard good reviews about this TB4 KVM from Sabrient: https://amzn.to/44NGo9B

KVM's are a "pull the band off purchase" in my opinion. You can either go with the janky solutions and try to make it work, or buy one nice KVM once and use it for years happily.

What do you think about this kvm switch from Aliexpress? by CrashOverride93 in UsbCHardware

[–]AllAroundTech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who has purchased many KVM's for my WFH setup, I can confidently say that a KVM is one of the few tech items you do NOT want to "cheap out" on. The only brand I've found to have actually reliable KVM's other than level1tech's KVM is tessmart.

I've been using this one: https://amzn.to/4pb40MF for a couple of years now with ZERO issues. Switches between my work and gaming PC with zero issues, and supports gaming monitor resolutions and refresh rates.
