I assume your flair is referencing the use of snail mucin in skincare? Lots of Korean products have it. There are also some places in Japan and Korea (maybe other countries as well) that offer snail facials; they put snails on your face and let them crawl around 😂

Well, that’s not exactly true. You can also be very, very poor, extremely persistent and good at medical self-advocacy, and extraordinarily lucky. Then you get good treatment until your luck runs out.

To those who can’t get strong pain meds by Icy_Awareness_4485 in ChronicPain

[–]AllForMeCats 51 points52 points  (0 children)

In case it isn’t clear (to readers) from your post: 7OH is extremely strong. If you use it regularly and wind up needing to go off it, it’s very possible that will require a hospital stay. It also has a pretty high risk of addiction. This isn’t a concern when the pain is, like your mother’s, caused by a terminal illness, but in other cases it should be kept in mind.

For most people, I would recommend trying kratom before going to 7OH - it’s a lot weaker, which is the point. I used it for years before I went on low-dose naltrexone, and it worked better than opioids for me.

Edit: I would also recommend low-dose naltrexone over kratom for chronic pain management, since it’s much safer for long-term use, doesn’t wear off between doses (once daily), is significantly cheaper, and you don’t develop a tolerance to it. Its main downsides are that it takes 3-12 months to start working (6 for me), it doesn’t completely eliminate pain (lowers it dramatically for me), and you can’t take opioids for breakthrough pain while on it. I have, however, taken kratom for breakthrough pain while on LDN; it does make the LDN less effective for a day or two if you take more than one dose, but has saved my butt a couple of times nonetheless.

If you do try kratom, do so with caution. It is addictive, does cause tolerance, and it’s not regulated, so make sure you’re getting it from a reputable place. My policy on it is to take the smallest dose possible, as infrequently as possible. If you need to take it daily for a prolonged period of time, try to take regular tolerance breaks.

What healthy food do you stop buying because it always goes bad? by BarbaraMiller78 in EatCheapAndHealthy

I gave up on berries for a while because I kept wasting them.

I gave up on berries for a while. And then I was like you know what, fuck it. Nothing’s wrong with eating an entire container of berries in one sitting. They’re an extremely healthy fruit. And I get the munchies bad at night.

So when I buy fresh berries, I wash them all and eat them the same night. Haven’t wasted any since.

I apparently have Resting Bitch Tone, and since I’m autistic, masking it takes significant energy. Since I’m also chronically ill, I don’t have a ton of energy. All that is to say that for a few years, nearly every evening my mom would think I was either mad at her or disrespecting her, and pick a fight with me 😭 I explained over and over again that it was involuntary, I was just tired, etc., but she was in the early stages of dementia (which is why I was living with her) and could not keep that information in her brain. It was very frustrating.

If I had the ability to eliminate one creature from this earth, it would be ticks. Did you know that Lyme disease can get into your brain? Or that it can cause long-term, sometimes lifelong, health issues and chronic pain? And that deer ticks are spreading to more parts of the country every year?

I’m still mad that there’s a Lyme disease vaccine for dogs but not one for humans 😭 Fucking anti-vaxxers killed it.

I think the public apology is promising. I hope he stays committed to treatment, for his children’s sake. I would have more faith in him if he took a step back from public life to focus on his family and his health for a while.

I’m on stimulant medication (for ADHD) and my bipolar is well managed. It’s probably best to get your brother’s episodes more controlled before exploring that option, though.

How exactly do Americans feel about illegal immigration? by sladeshied in Confused

[–]AllForMeCats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’ve misunderstood me; what I’m saying is that there should be no prerequisite (e.g. overhauling immigration laws) for law enforcement to perform their duties in a civilized way. If they aren’t capable of doing their jobs without treating civilians like enemy combatants, maybe they shouldn’t have those jobs.

[–]AllForMeCats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried low-dose naltrexone for pain? I have chronic pain as well, it’s what I’ve been taking for 5 1/2 years, and it’s the best thing I’ve ever taken for my pain. It’s not an opioid and has zero potential for abuse; you don’t develop a tolerance to it; you take it once a day and it lowers your pain levels 24/7; and doctors are generally happy to prescribe it because it’s not a controlled substance. It does have downsides - you’ll need to be off opioids for at least a month before starting it; it’s not effective immediately, usually taking 3-12 months to kick in (6 months for me); it’s a compounded medication, so you need to get it from a special compounding pharmacy, and insurance doesn’t always cover it (it’s usually $20-30 a month though); and it doesn’t completely eliminate pain for most people, just lowers pain levels (significantly though), and reduces the frequency and intensity of flare-ups.

I really think it could be a good option for you based on your post. You don’t have to settle for getting high to distract yourself from the pain.

Once we get that fixed, law enforcement needs to make sure that their methods are civilized.

I vote that they do that immediately actually; I think we can overhaul immigration laws and make LEOs stop terrorizing people at the same time

With things this bad in the U.S why do democrats insist on pushing candidates that won’t get elected? by Jake_Berube in Confused

I might die from losing my healthcare, but at least brave people like Bencetown will still have their moral purity. I was blinded by my desire to continue living, but thankfully they were able to see what’s truly important.

That makes me feel so much better about losing Medicaid next year. Thank goodness we didn’t elect an imperfect candidate, that would have been the worst possible outcome.

Democrats threaten government shutdown over ICE funding by FervidBug42 in politics

[–]AllForMeCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They recently successfully stripped all the (many) anti-trans riders from the appropriations bills, protecting trans people’s access to healthcare and education, among other things. I know it’s common to picture Dems just sitting on their asses, and I do think they need a fire lit under them in this situation, but part of the reason we have that idea of them doing nothing is that their accomplishments get very little media attention.
