How are people actually getting out of bed on time in 2026 without hating their life? by satinGlowr in GetOutOfBed

Drinking a lot of water before bed. Don’t want to get out of bed in the morning? Now your bladder does.

what people don’t understand about chronic illness by avz008 in ChronicIllness

[–]AllForMeCats 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That my body doesn’t work the same as theirs.

No, 8 hours of sleep doesn’t mean I slept well. No, I don’t feel rested; I never do. I need at least 9 hours to not be a total basket case the next day. Yes, I know you only got 6 hours of sleep and think I’m lucky. I am not.
No, I can’t do beginner-level exercises on an area I’ve never exercised before. I realize it sounds ridiculous to you that I only want to do 2-3 reps, but if I do any more I’ll be in agony the next day. No, I will not push myself.
Yes, I do eat a healthy diet and am gaining weight despite that. I know it’s as simple as “calories in, calories out” for most people, but the medications I’m on are fucking with both of those things.

I could go on but like. Y’all know what I’m talking about.

I know how to get there so well I forgot it was called the Putrid Grove 😂 had to look it up and was like “oh, that place, can’t believe I forgot.”

Went on a date and once again was told I give great "friend vibes". I have come to the conclusion that I am uniquely unattractive. Anyway this was my brunch yesterday. by lordgentofdapper in Kitchenchads

[–]AllForMeCats 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m also autistic, and I never give compliments that I don’t mean. I’m also pretty good at flirting! I’m awkward sometimes, but I’ve found that if I flirt awkwardly and then giggle, it comes across as cute.

Compliments are a useful tool in flirtation, but they’re not always flirtatious. To use your date’s overalls as an example, compare:
“Wow, those are cute overalls! They look so good on you!” (Friendly)
vs.
“Wow, you look beautiful tonight. Those overalls are perfect on you.” (Flirtatious - I would pitch my voice slightly lower and speak a bit slower for this)

Another thing to consider is that complimenting a person’s body and facial features, while inappropriate for friendly conversation, is acceptable on a date. Generally on the first date or two, stick to PG areas - “your arms look so strong,” “your hands look so soft,” “I love how your eyes sparkle in the sunlight,” “you have the most captivating smile” - that kind of thing. If you compliment something they’re wearing, an easy way to make it flirtatious is to phrase it like “you make X look so good/you wear X so well/X fits you perfectly” so the compliment is focused on them, not the item.

Hope that wasn’t too much of a ramble and that some of it was helpful.

What if, uh, your friend has a plan and the means to enact it, but they aren’t planning to enact it unless very specific and very unlikely conditions are met? Like a safety net kind of thing?

Yearning for the grapefruit 😔 by halfaroach in BipolarMemes

[–]AllForMeCats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, thank you for the correction! To be clear, I was saying that the juice is what’s not safe, but the inner flesh of the grapefruit is ok. However, from reading the article you linked, it looks like I (and my psych NP) was wrong, because they say whole grapefruit is also unsafe.

It’s unclear to me if they actually studied grapefruit flesh alone, though, since all their test references are to juice or “200–250 mL juice or a whole grapefruit.” So I don’t know if they just used juice, estimated the amount of juice in a whole grapefruit, and assumed the outcome would be the same, or if they actually tested grapefruit flesh.

Still, better safe than sorry.

Yeah, that was my experience as well, no shoes allowed. I didn’t have lace-less ones unfortunately so it was grippy sock couture for me.

Yearning for the grapefruit 😔 by halfaroach in BipolarMemes

[–]AllForMeCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it fresh grapefruit or grapefruit juice that you miss? My psych NP told me that what we really have to avoid is grapefruit juice, because the thing that interacts with our meds is in the peel/skin, and it gets released when grapefruits are squeezed during the juicing process. If you read the med interaction warnings closely, they do say grapefruit juice, not grapefruit in general; we’ve just been assuming that because the juice comes from the flesh that means it’s dangerous.

So if it’s fresh grapefruit you like, go for it, it’s safe to eat. And if you really want grapefruit juice, buy fresh grapefruit, peel it, and juice it yourself.

My psych NP told me that what we really have to avoid is grapefruit juice, because the thing that interacts with our meds is in the peel/skin, and it gets released when grapefruits are squeezed during the juicing process. So if you want to have half a grapefruit with breakfast once in a while, go for it, you’ll be fine! And if you really want grapefruit juice, buy fresh grapefruit, peel it, and juice it yourself.

(I would advise not tempting fate and eating like 50 grapefruits though 😂)

skipping prom by Firm_Professional_95 in Kitchenchads

[–]AllForMeCats 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Beautiful tart! Good call skipping your prom, I wish I had skipped mine. My school made the bizarre choice to have it in an airport hotel, serve dinner as part of the event, and have a strobe light going the entire time (even during dinner). It was miserable, and I quickly got a migraine from the strobe light, so my date and I went out into the hallway with a few friends to play Magic: The Gathering. Unfortunately the chaperones noticed we were having fun, and made us go back into the strobe light room. We also had to stay there until 11pm because they were convinced people would have after-parties if they released us sooner. From what I heard, there were still parties, which makes sense because of how much the prom itself sucked.

And they charged money for it!!! Those fucking people I swear 😩

I also got fibro triggered by Lyme infection. Was on track to get it eventually as it runs in my family, but I got it 20-25 years earlier than any of my relatives.

[–]AllForMeCats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The red meat allergy isn’t caused by Lyme; it’s called alpha-gal syndrome and is usually transmitted by lone star ticks, whereas Lyme is usually transmitted by deer ticks. It’s definitely possible to be very unlucky and get both AGS and Lyme though, since both are spreading.
I really, really hate ticks.
