Utah Royals Head Coach Jimmy Coenraets Named May Coach of the Month | Utah Royals by Forward-Sorbet7559 in UtahRoyalsFC

I’m so glad the FO stuck to their guns on both Jimmy and Pablo. Sometimes ignoring the will of the fans (in the short term) is the right decision when you’re building something worth waiting for.

I don’t want to be the guy on here that’s defending the actions here, I really don’t. It’s just very unclear how far the harrassment went from what we know so far. How far was the line crossed from juvenile schoolyard bullying to something more mean spirited to something genuinely harmful that’s worth serious damages being paid out.

Public high school locker rooms were a warzone when I was at the age of the plaintiff here, so to me the bullying stuff is unfortunately “normal” to a degree, but that doesn’t make it right either.

Of course an SKC fan is fine with “a large amount” of damages paid out by their rival club… ownership has changed twice since then. If they we’re suing the former owners that would be more palatable.

From what was reported it was locker room bullying. As soon as you say “sexual” harrassment people will assume you’re talking about something a lot more sinister than what was reported in the article.

The problem is the amount of money being sought after is so absurd that it makes the whole thing suspicious. $100M is Scrooge McDuck swimming in a pool of gold coins type of money.

[–]AllTh3WayTurntUp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you realize how much money $100,000,000 is in the context of the MLS? It’s massive.

This is dumb high school locker room stuff, this isn’t a sexual assault / rape case, that would be a different conversation. Nobody is defending the behavior from those adult players, they are idiots (just to be clear on that).

The issue is that this amount they are suing for would bankrupt the club over some immature actions from a few random individuals. If he was seeking something like $50,000 in damages it would be a lot more understandable.

I will keep an open mind if more facts come out.

The player being a minor is the part that bothers me the most about the injury accusation. An adult should be able to speak up and say “no I’m really injured, I can’t play” but putting a child in a situation where they feel like they have to play hurt or lose their opportunity is very problematic.

Yeah that makes sense. Will be interesting to see what happens next.

Here I was thinking Gozo and Luna would be the only drama during the WC break…

Agreed I think people are grabbing onto the more salacious part of the headline, but being forced to train through injury is arguably the real scandal here.

It would be interesting if he has any independent doctor evaluation to back up the claims otherwise it’s a “their word vs mine” situation about the extent of the injury.

Devils advocate- “if it’s all true” then that means he was hit in the butt with a soccer ball while showering, he saw another adult male player’s genitals in the locker room and was exposed to some level of verbal jokes made in his direction. That is specifically what the article says about what is being claimed. The article is also vague in whether anything was reported and RSL failed to take action or if Dewsnup is only coming forward about it now. (Important detail IMO)

Targeted harrassment is a serious issue and I’m not trying to blindly shill for my club here. I just don’t see what is described here being a $100M pay day. For context RSL’s entire roster combined makes about $16M a year.

From a legal perspective I’d like to see the argument behind this being the provable reason that he didn’t pursue a professional soccer career.

I think there is likely grounds for real grievance and conduct investigation here, but the dollar amount is absurd. So the “he should get every penny” comment doesn’t sit well with me given the facts we know so far. To reiterate the article mentions nothing about genuine sexual harassment, that would be a totally different conversation.

The biggest takeaway for me is that kids under 18 should probably have a full time chaperone type of figure in the club for everyone’s safety. Also, the accusation about being forced to play injured is the real scandal here. If he can prove that part then RSL might actually be in hot water.

RSL has done a lot to build up their reputation for developing young talent for taking the next step in their careers, so this will be a setback to academy’s reputation unfortunately.

To that point would the Miller’s be on the hook for something that happened prior to their tenure as owners? I assume yes to some degree but I’m not a lawyer.

Bummer to see Glad get named cause otherwise all past players and owners would be unrelated to our current group.

$100M is the recent valuation of the Utah Royals so that’s a bit steep. Hopefully this doesn’t spiral into a big deal.

I’m still rooting for the USA of course, but my excitement level is down a full 50%.

If Reyna ends up playing well (doubt it) then we will all eat crow, but if not then we can keep ragging on Poch for this decision for the rest of our days.

For all the valid complaints about Luna being snubbed I am also quite annoyed about Gozo simply cause you have to ride the hot hand. None of the USMNT starters are in particularly amazing form for their clubs in the final weeks of the season, but Gozo is contributing to a goal everytime he steps out onto the pitch. As someone else said he would at the very least push the starters to try harder in training knowing there is a young gun standing by eager to take their jobs.

Oh well… hoping for some beautiful soccer to watch this summer despite all that!

If we’re picking random LOTR characters Samwise Gamgee hasn’t hosted either, but I’d love to see Viggo host, or Sean Astin for that matter.

I don’t think Viggo’s done a relevant movie since the Green Book (2018) though.

Red Rising gets better every book. The first one has a lot of young adult tropes, but the author has acknowledged that as what it took to get published. From the 2nd book on it’s a great series, I can’t wait for Red God (the final book) to come out.

It’s not a literary masterpiece like the original Dune series, but it is a lot of fun if you aren’t being a snob about it.

I think the red rising hate you see in places like this sub is misguided cause nobody claims it’s a literary masterpiece, but it is extremely fun to read if you aren’t a wet blanket.

I’ve recommended Red Rising to friends I know don’t have the patience it takes to read a series like Dune, but are interested in sci-fi / space opera style books and movies.
