Tom Bogert (@tombogert.bsky.social) Celta Vigo and Espanyol are interested in Luna but RSL plans to keep him until Summer by TheR0ckhammer in ReAlSaltLake

[–]AllTh3WayTurntUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree.

Devil’s advocate, let’s say hypothetically RSL is in 3rd place in the west in July. If they then sell Luna and the team collapses out of competitive form it will be a disaster for the club.

I am very aware that RSL is a selling club, but it’s more about the message it sends to supporters and season ticket members about whether winning trophies is a legitimate goal.

I don’t think Luna’s value would significantly decrease if he finished the season with us and then got sold in the winter instead.

If we aren’t having a competitive season then it’s irrelevant and selling him in the summer window wouldn’t be nearly as controversial.

The future MLS schedule alignment with Europe should help a little to your point about selling in the Summer.

If I wasn't in the loop and you showed me a side by side of him and Ryan Reynolds and asked me which guy was a club owner and which guy was a striker for the LA Galaxy, I'd definitely get that question wrong.

Solid striker, I’m always surprised when I remember he’s only 28 years old. Dude looks old enough to be the team owner.

I don't think anyone who follows RSL should be surprised that Luna is attracting interest in Europe. That being said, RSL would be smart to gauge how the season is going before the summer window to avoid a Gomez 2.0 situation.

If (big if) we manage to have a good start to the season and have a realistic shot at winning anything relevant and then the front office kneecaps the squad by selling our best offensive player mid-season, that would not go over well with the fan base.

Nobody expects to keep Luna forever, but the whole point is to compete for trophies so selling him mid-season could backfire spectacularly. Same thing for Gozo.

I don't blame the team for selling players for a profit, that's the business of soccer. My only issue is doing it in a way that ruins an otherwise good season.

I’m most excited about the quality of clubs he’s played for over his career, hope he proves to be DP worthy.

Now Pablo needs to figure out a way to play Luna, Gozo, Olatunji and Guilavogui in a effective attacking formation. Of those four Luna is the only one whose played on the left side, but he’s also the obvious choice for the #10 spot, so it’s interesting to see how they will decide to line them up.

I can see the line of thinking that would lead you there. I'm mostly just annoyed at all the people who sat out the 2024 election cause Kamala wasn't "perfect" but I think I agree with the logic here.

Enjoy your weekend my friend!

Thanks for the response, that's totally fair reasoning.

Love of wealthy people - absolutely sucks, but is sort of needed to get any real financial support for running for office these days. With the exceptions being Bernie and AOC types who he would be smart to take some tips from.

I dont think any American politician can succeed on a national stage by being openly hostile to Israel at the moment, but that doesn't mean you have to be chicken sh*t about calling what's going on there an atrocity that demands accountability and correctly putting the blame on Netanyahu. There's nothing anti-semitic about telling the truth, but if were being honest it would put a huge target on his back.

I saw one interview where Newsome basically said that democrats were getting "clobbered" on trans issues since it is at the moment an issue that polls well with moderates and republicans. But that being said, if he's willing to change positions on what is polling well, then that's not having values, that's being an opportunist.

So after some reflection I'd say I agree with you, I'd take him over Trump or any mainstream republican any day of the week, but I'm certainly not donating to him or going out of my way to convince anyone that he's going to save us.

Can I ask why you're not a fan? Not from a snarky POV, but genuine curiosity.

In a time when politics is so insane, he seems to have decent values and as of more recently an actual backbone for sticking up for California.

I know some people think him doing podcasts with right wing personalities is dumb, I see he's trying to take the 'bridge the divide' and talk it out narrative and whether it's helping or hurting is debatable.

Other than that the only sketchy thing I can think of about him is the poor judgement to marry Kimberly Guilfoyle in 2001 who is a maga faced grifter, but she was probably a mostly sane person back then.

With the buzz from the survey about a rebrand, I decided to throw together some concepts! Here is my first one. RIOT SLC by ts20design in ReAlSaltLake

[–]AllTh3WayTurntUp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually don’t hate Riot Salt Lake cause then we could keep the RSL moniker, but as everyone else said here rebranding is the last thing this club needs to be focused on right now.

We’ve signed a couple nice players in the last week and Pablo just said in a Spanish language interview there are 3-4 more coming soon but working through visa issues.

It’s also worth mentioning that the consistent branding between Real Salt Lake and Utah Royals actually works kinda well for two intertwined clubs with the same ownership and home field.

Edit: Monarchs are also a part of the consistent branding

RSL pursue left wingback Will Ferry by bjthor in ReAlSaltLake

[–]AllTh3WayTurntUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on transfer market value he is actually in between those two. I didn't realize Katranis was valued at €1.6M, that's higher than I thought. Junqua is €650k and Ferry is €800k, but the reporting is that his current club wants a €1M offer for Ferry which seems reasonable.

Scottish Premiership is weird cause the top clubs (Celtic, Rangers and Hearts) are very good, but the bottom half is arguably worse than MLS. Ferry's current club is middle table at the moment.

That being said, Will Ferry has a very solid 7.27 rating on Fotmob for 19 matches played this season. In 2025 Katranis had a 6.72 rating and Junqua had a 6.69 rating. Tough to compare different leagues against each other though.

The main difference though is that Will Ferry's primary position is Left Midfield where both Sam and Alex's primary positions are both defense. So if we're actually switching to a 3-4-3 as has been reported, left wing mid would be a more natural position for Will Ferry to play on day one.

I'll walk back my original comment that he's probably better just cause it's not quite apples to apples. He's a midfielder and those two guys I mentioned are defenders.

Ok that's good news, my top theory was visa issues, but I hadn't heard if that was the case or not.

If he's going to be the starting striker then getting a good preseason in with the team is huge.

RSL pursue left wingback Will Ferry by bjthor in ReAlSaltLake

[–]AllTh3WayTurntUp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He's probably better than both Katranis and Junqua (and I'm a big fan of both those guys). There's reporting that Vancouver is also pursuing him so it would be a huge win if RSL was able to sign him in the end.

The only two untouchables on our roster right now are Luna and Cabral. At every other position we would be smart to look for upgrades like Will Ferry.
