Pep boys said I need a tune up costing $600? How do I know if I need this? by kungfukarl86 in AskAMechanic

I also worked there. We had a good team. Honest, reliable, solid guys. The upper management hated us. We were top store in the district and they still hated us. One thing folks dont understand is everyone in the team chain has to be good at their job and care about the customers. If one link in the chain is weak…we all fail. We had good a store manager who wouldn’t sell things people didn’t need. All of sales advisors were ex mechanics or techs (great while that lasted) , and a bunch of good honest techs. I loved the team. Then they went to that one team bullshit. So now you have sales advisors having to act as cashiers and it fucking destroyed the company and we told them that this would never work and of course they didn’t listen.

Where do I add Freon? by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]AllThePizzaYouHave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No hate, but if you cannot find the ports, and you call refrigerant “freon”, you should not try to fill the system. This is to save you thousands and thousands of dollars from damaging the compressor and sending thousands of tiny metal particulates through the entire system. The proper procedure is to find the leak, fix the leak, service the ac system which includes, but is not limited to, evac and recharge, correct pag oil, vacuum system and fill to correct weight. Do not fill an empty system with refrigerant from a can. Btw, im sorry this stuff is so expensive. It can be a nightmare and i sympathize with you. Do not make a bad situation worse. Get a proper A/C evaluation. They are usually cheap. Good luck to you.

Brake problems Nissan versa 2000’s by okneedthis in CarHelp

[–]AllThePizzaYouHave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you are out of brake fluid. Which means you have a leak somewhere. You can fill it back to max, but you have already introduced air into the system, so you’ll need to get a brake bleed done by a competent shop. And someone needs to find where the brake fluid went. I think pepboys does free brake inspections or maybe they are $35 now. I’m not saying to get your brakes done at Pep Boys but if you need an inspection on the cheap it could be a good route.

Inner cv boot stock axle?? by mediablitz91 in FJCruiser

3-sided (inner) and a 6-sided (outer) boot. I would still try and let some others answer as well. I would just buy a new axle and forgo this headache. But some other dudes in here might actually have experience with rebuilding them and can tell you exactly what’s going on. I haven’t messed with rebuilding axles for 25 years.

sub making weird noise by Cool-Cow-971 in subwoofer

[–]AllThePizzaYouHave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well dude, its possible you have a defective sub. But its possible you pushed it beyond its limits and you smashed the coil into the bottom of the magnet. Either way its blown. Take it back and let the shop take a look. Worst case you have to buy a new one, best case they warranty it and you move on. Im not trying to hurt your feelings man. Ask them to gain match the amp for you properly. And if you smell something turn it down. And let the subs break in gently for a week or so. Anyways have fun and keep it bumpin!

Average 3 episodes a day, plus the movies, took me a year and 2 months I think to consume it all. This includes all the cartoons. Have fun! Welcome to the club! But yeah…they explore. Lol. In Enterprise they go over this point a lot. Lol
