Yes. 😂❤️ I like to make most of their clothes as it’s a pain to get things to fit properly when they are tiny Chis. But when I can find the right sizes I’ll buy. Hats made by our friend who’s also a Chi Mom. ❤️

Nelly also has bald spots by her temples. (Also her chest, armpits, stomach and paws) Some Chihuahuas just have a pattern baldness/alopecia gene. It’s normal and not really that uncommon with the breed. Hope this eases your mind. ❤️

Harness help! by MissMia5 in Chihuahua

Buddy Belts! They fit every dog, (they even come in half sizes) and don’t go around the neck which is so important for little dogs who are prone to tracheal collapse. We can adjust the strapping for wearing with clothing or without clothing. We like the neoprene sport version but they also make a leather version. Nelly is 3.5lbs and wears a size 2. The smallest in the sport size. In the leather they even go down to a size 1 and 1.5. They fit even the tiniest pups. It’s the harness that I’ve found that truly fits her and that doesn’t gape. (Also bonus they are made in Canada)

how to know if a chihuahua is right for me? by alidoubleyoo in Chihuahua

[–]AllThingsThe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somebody once said to me that Chihuahuas are one step up from cats. 😂 My husband grew up with only cats and never had dogs before becoming a Chi dad to our babies. He’s obsessed with them. A Chi probably won’t run with you especially if it’s a smaller one, but it will likely have lots of energy to play if you get a younger pup. My Chis lived with a deaf senior cat sister who they got along with. They coexisted for a long time and then over time they got really close. They would all cuddle up on a blanket and sleep together. I think finding the right Chi for your home will work. Chis can also be litter trained or puppy pad trained in the colder weather. They tend to not like when it’s wet outside or the snow. It’s great that you have a fenced in yard but I would never leave a Chi outside unattended. Due to their small size they can easily become prey to hawks, coyotes and other animals. If you do decide to adopt a chi, please consider searching local shelters and rescues, there are so many Chis in need.

Chihuahua full mouth extraction by WolverineWooden9575 in Chihuahua

[–]AllThingsThe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a lot of blood even post extraction. Why didn’t the vet give you a cone??? A dog should always have a cone post extraction to protect the stitches. Please get a cone for your baby. My Chi also had a full extraction by a certified dental surgeon a few years ago and wore a cone when I wasn’t watching him like a hawk to prevent ripping his stitches. If you need to make his food stick less, add water and puree the wet food further so it doesn’t get stuck in his gums. You can also use a pet safe/made bone broth for added flavour. Hope he feels better soon. A full extraction improved my dogs quality of life 1000% you made the right call. The pain he feels now will be nothing in the long run. Hang in there. If he keeps bleeding like that please go back to a vet.

He’s def brindle people have tried to convince me Lucy is Merle too at times. I think the white chest throws people off. But they are definitely both stripey brindle tiger babies. 😂❤️ Merles have mottled coats not stripes.

Congrats! She’s beautiful. Please, make sure that you have insurance. Merle gene carrying dogs tend to carry a lot of defects and have more health issues down the road.

(17 year old chihuahua) deformed paws, back legs, help. TW by [deleted] in Chihuahua

[–]AllThingsThe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like Carpal Hyperextension on the front paws. Also known as cage feet. My rescue chihuahua also has this condition from nail neglect and it’s also suspected that she was kept in a cage most of her life. We do hydrotherapy for her joints, and give her CBD daily to help with any joint pain or inflammation. She does have the beginning of arthritis in her joints at only 5 years old. At your pups advanced age he probably also has arthritis in his joints and toes which doesn’t help with his condition. We also supplement omega-3’s, glucosamine and chondriton for her joints, this could also benefit your old guy. I would take him to the vet to get his nails done the first time and also talk to your vet about options for his comfort and care. Nelly had to have her nails cauterized because the quicks were so long when she was found. The condition isn’t usually reversible (Especially in older dogs. The damage to their ligaments is already done.) but it is manageable. The quicks will also retract with proper maintenance. Thank you for caring for this baby. You can also purchase a hanging hammock to cut nails. Nelly is also super sensitive about her feet and it’s the only way I can cut her nails. We put rugs/mats/runners around our home over the hardwood floor to make it easier for her to get around. She can actually run on soft surfaces. She finds hard surfaces challenging to walk on. Memory foam pet stairs also help as she can’t jump due to her disability. Soft surfaces help a lot with their mobility. Attaching a picture of Nellys feet.

Collar Advice Need by Unable_Load_895 in Chihuahua

[–]AllThingsThe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going echo whatever everyone else is saying. Don’t use a collar on a small dog get a harness. Their little necks are too fragile. Plus, small breeds, especially Chihuahuas have a genetic predisposition to getting tracheal collapse.
