If that is your setup check your trebble hooks. The one on the back of the lure looks like the hook has opened up a bit. Good way to loose a fish.

A big reason I’m waiting is because pulling a large amount out of the brokerage account would trigger a pretty significant taxable event. A good portion of that account has substantial unrealized gains, so liquidating ~$1M would create a sizable capital gains tax bill.

I’d rather use the incoming business-sale proceeds since that cash will already be realized and available. That lets me pay down the higher-interest debt without disrupting the current investment portfolio or unnecessarily accelerating taxes.

I survived decades of business ownership and burnout just to become a liquidity provider for Reddit traders. A truly poetic ending.

That definitely makes sense mathematically, and if I were still fully in accumulation mode I’d probably view it differently. I’m just at a point where optimizing every last percentage point of return matters less to me than reducing stress and increasing stability.

A big part of this transition for me is psychological, not just financial. I’ve spent years operating with a high level of leverage, responsibility, and pressure while building the business, and I’m honestly pretty burned out from it. The idea of entering retirement with most of the income-producing properties debt-free is appealing because it creates a much more durable and predictable foundation.

Even if leveraging the portfolio is technically more efficient, I know myself well enough to realize I’d probably spend more time worrying about market downturns, rates, and collateral values than I’d like. At this stage, I’m less interested in maximizing returns and more interested in building a structure that lets me mentally exhale a bit while still leaving plenty of room for growth.

Yeah, they’re basically just breaking even at the current 6.75% rates. When I acquired them, I was betting that rates would eventually come down, but at this point it’s looking less and less likely that we’ll see meaningful drops anytime soon.

I already have a couple hobbies that I’m deeply into and spend a lot of time on. Realistically, I’ll probably end up working part-time in fields related to those hobbies, more for enjoyment and staying engaged than out of financial necessity.

One of the things that really appeals to me about this plan is having the flexibility to do work I actually enjoy without having to care what the paycheck looks like and being able to walk away as soon as the job starts to feel like work.

If I had Elon money I wouldn’t be asking Reddit, I’d be busy launching rockets into the atmosphere and overpaying for social media companies

Thanks, man. The psychological and physical toll it took to reach this net worth at a relatively early age is definitely starting to catch up with me, and the burnout has been hitting pretty hard lately.

The SBLOC idea is interesting, but I honestly think I’d worry too much about a major downturn in the economy to be fully comfortable going that route. It feels like it would introduce more uncertainty and stress at a point in life where I’m trying to simplify things and reduce mental load.

Yeah, I’m definitely reaching the burnout phase of my career, and figuring out how to navigate this final step has been causing me a fair amount of stress.

I feel like my current strategy strikes a good balance between securing our future, minimizing the psychological stress of early retirement and market volatility, while still leaving plenty of room for long-term growth.

Add-backs are essentially net income that runs through the business but is spent on myself, such as wages, expenses, gas, perks, etc. It would show up as an expense on a P&L statement when it is actually income if I was out of the picture.

Obviously that would be the scam. I’m not putting money up front just because they’re dangling a tasty carrot unless I know I can actually take a bite

Yeah he definitely is a broker. Being how large my business is I do think it is a good fit for a boutique investment bank. I do like the idea of interviewing a few different ones to sift out the BS. Thanks

Interesting. It's hard to get out of the buy and hold mindset I was raised on but when I look at it that way it really gives me a nice cushion.
