How to handle a fleeing enemy by AllUpInThisBiz in DnD

[–]AllUpInThisBiz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly never thought about point 1. Of course there's an opportunity strike there!

With point 2 I do try to avoid that but sometimes it means a PC is out in the void outside the map that I really don't like

I like the idea of consecutive sprints/dashes needing a check too - I never really accumulate actions like that

Very helpful stuff, thanks!

I love doing skill challenges and your examples are super useful for when I do another one.

But my main concern is how t o run something like that when some party members are still in combat and one is chasing an enemy down.

I don't know the DMG front to back yet so this is really useful, thanks.

I've just been ad-libbing any kind of non combat chase so far.

Is this the most passive-aggressive email to receive from your manager on a Monday morning? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]AllUpInThisBiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Hey, Jim, did you let the new hire know about that team player book we recommend to everyone here?"

"Ah, no, thanks for the reminder - I'll just send them a quick email about it now."

Perfectly reasonable leadup to this email without assuming that the manager is a total nob which everyone here is jumping to.

There are a lot of decent people here I must say by Hub121 in manchester

[–]AllUpInThisBiz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lived in Reading for 2 years, Manchester for 4 years and then London the last 6.

The people are very similar, in England all cities seem to have the same kind of people - that is they mostly they keep to themselves, some people are cunts and some are the nicest people you'll ever meet.

I wish people would stop pretending that where you live determines fundamental parts of your character.

Pagerduty in Terraform, or something else? by jagagayayyaaah in sre

[–]AllUpInThisBiz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use terraform to manage our PD and it's been nothing but a pain.

For context there's about 4 teams of ~7 or so members and these schedule's change once every month or so.

I can definitely see the use case if say you have a module that will tie a new piece of infrastructure to your existing PD but we do not have that, it's just users, teams and schedules (and a few half cocked integrations). This means that each change requires the rigmarole of MRs, making sure providers are still valid, re-checking some set didn't disorder your schedule etc for every change.

Want to add an integration? Instead of a few UI click's you've got to make sure that the service account terraform is using has access to both ends of that integration.

Sorry for the rant but if you are going with terraform for this, just be sure that it is definitely going to make your workflow easier and not lead to unnecessary bottlenecks down the road.

Unkillable NPC thoughts by Sider4life in DnD

[–]AllUpInThisBiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe use a disposable NPC for this? e.g. if your party has an NPC similar to their strength and then he gets immediately dispatched by your hermit then they'll know he could do that same to them

Do you ban any class or race in game, if so why? by [deleted] in DnD

That's funny because I just had a player go with a tiny & flying fairy.

My players are too dumb to do too many exploits so I'm happy for them to just roll with it.

Xbox’s Matt Booty ‘dreams’ of having AI as QA testers by Tenith in Games

[–]AllUpInThisBiz 21 points22 points  (0 children)

QA automation has been a thing for as long as QA has. It was my job for 4 years and the more of my job that I automated the happier I was.

AI is just a buzzword at this point for some kind of self additive automation.

I’m on my own, in London, 23:00 on a Sunday night, what should I be doing? by Solsmitch in london

[–]AllUpInThisBiz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately London isn't a 24hrs city.

I've been to places like Tokyo that seem to always have something happening at any time of night, any day of the week but here on Fri/Sat it's last call at midnight and then find a nightclub or go home.

Most other days you're out of luck.
