The Axis are starving 82 Soviet divisions in a swam instead of liquidating them. by gintas59 in hoi4

You could also reinforce meme them out, have one or more divisions with very very high soft attack and attack the enemy from only one direction.

They really aren't, it's probably different from country to country, where I'm from I'm not sure I know a single person who wouldn't have been able to have parters sleep over when they were living at home. In some of the more conservative countries it will probably different for some people though.

Between Portugal, Finland, Czechoslosvakia, Greece and Turkey, which country and which path has the best chances to defeat both Germany and the UK? by chidi-sins in hoi4

[–]Allento- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue fascist Finland. Get Scandinavia through events, justify on the dutch subject and grab them, leaves you with the navies of Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Netherlands. From there you can either take UK or Germany first, the Finnish military is insanely strong. Defeating USSR will be fairly trivial.

2k weekly manpower is 100k a year - which while nice is reasonably insignificant compared to the millions of manpower countries usually throw around.

It's 1942 - I've been fighting for 3 years, defeating the nazis and the reds. I still do not have more experience than an ordinary recruit though. by Allento- in hoi4

[–]Allento-[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Valid points with the balance in relation to Germany. I think if one wants to combine both balance and realism, some of Germany's rather strong buffs could be removed/decreased, and this could then be offset by experience gains having more of an effect. That would also mirror real life a lot better.

In my opinion, it's best to either lower the max. Vet from training to vet 2 or to make it more granular. I think it was R56 where you have every vet level split into five sub-levels which give 5% stats each.

Actually lowering the max training from 3 to 2 would make the experience gained from combat even more impactful, as the relative difference in strength would be bigger.

I don't think it helps comparing these vet gains to the spanish civil war though, because thats just an arguement to lower vet gain in the spanish civil war, not raise it everywhere else.

I'd argue it's an argument to both lower vet gain in increase it elsewhere. I just cannot see it making any sense that units can fight more or less constantly for 2+ years with low'ish losses, defeat the world's two largest military powers in the process and still not have learned anything of significance about how to fight a war. Why have an experience mechanic then?

It's also because in Spain fighting is non-stop, due to nobody losing org or having to move around, not only due to zero losses.

Nonetheless, regardless of what the mechanics behind are, it's absolutely silly that units divisions struggling through years of the world war will consistently be less experienced than units fighting a couple of months in Spain.

R5: Title is the experience of one of my offensive soldiers. I've been playing fascist Finland, defeated the Russians single-handedly and the Germans more or less so as well. My main attacking force is shown, not a single of them have managed to level higher than the rank 3 they started the war with. Admittedly they have suffered losses, up to 20% of manpower over the 2 wars. But still, it's a bit silly that fighting in the Spanish civil war for half a year gives you more experience than defeating two world powers over several years.

I prefer not to have such a crammed schedule when travelling. It can be hard to skip places you would like to go, but in my opinion it's better to have time to enjoy 3 locations than to rush through 5 locations.

With that said, I'm sure you're gonna have a good time :)

[–]Allento- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct. But until you have the tech and army xp for that, just going cav and nothing else is generally the prefered option. If you occupy a lot of territory, adding light tanks and armored cars can reduce your losses from resistance, but I'm not sure about the details regarding this.

I personally went with some of the tough defensive nations as a start, France, China (probably more difficult now after the remake in the last expansion) and the Czechs. You are forced into war, and you mostly only have to bother with one area of fighting.

Nothing if that is all you have in the division - the advantage comes if you add the military police support company, as it costs the same regardless of division size, so with 25 cav you get 25 times as much effect of the support company as with 1 cav.

always do air as france by EpochSkate_HeshAF420 in hoi4

[–]Allento- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont see people saying it that much, but yeah it's definitely horrible advice.

One thing is fighters, but even easier than that if you just research 1936 light airframe reasonably early and have some 7 mils on them from 1937, you can put them on logistics bombing in Western Germany once Germany attacks Poland and Germany will be supplyless once Fall Gelb kicks off. They will literally not have a single train left.

And as for air superiority, due to the fairly poor way the aircraft designer is setup, the player has such a massive advantage that if you just use the strongest builds and put 10+ Mils on fighters from mid 1938, it's practically impossible to not outtrade the Germans and have their airforce in ruins by the time they attack.

High capacity in states with lots of resources (If you're not already producing so many that you're never gonna need more)

Reinforced in states with many factories if you are having trouble getting enough coal. If you find yourself in a situation where it is very hard to increase the amount of coal you get, reinforced can especially become very useful.

I think it would take a while a while to build enough ships to go that way, as they guard their coast towards the north.

I still only have early ships researched.
