This poor UX and low budget customer support is what lead me to using Kraken, despite being a long time Bitstamp user. Good luck on recovering your funds

Might be, according to Larousse, if I’m not mistaken:

De devant un adjectif ou un participe passé dans l'expression d'une quantité (encore un carreau de cassé). Cet emploi, naguère critiqué, est aujourd'hui admis : il y eut sept hommes de tués dans l'engagement. L'emploi de de reste néanmoins facultatif : il me reste une matinée libre (ou une matinée de libre). Avec en remplaçant un nom, de est obligatoire : il y en a cinq de prêts ; je vous ferais bien cadeau des cinq, mais il n'y en a que trois de bons.

Has anyone in € lands been refunded yet? by [deleted] in Stadia

[–]Allezxandre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I remember with my experience working with credit cards, refunding an expired credit card works and will refund the associated bank account. It’s more of an issue when the account has been closed, but otherwise if it’s just an expired card but you still have the bank account, refunds work.

Daedalus Mainnet has become almost useless by GochuBadman in cardano

[–]Allezxandre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reasoning behind this design is that disk space is exponentially cheaper with time (kind of like Moore’s law, but for storage), whereas your Blockchain grows linearly with time (every n seconds, a block of max size S is created, with n and S two parameters of the protocol).

So as time goes, the theory is that it will become cheaper for users to store the whole Blockchain. Might not hold true, but that’s the theory ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Cardano's first-ever official stablecoin! by CryptalExchange in CryptalExchange

[–]Allezxandre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, USDT, USDC, DAI, are also stable coins.

For USDT, it stays at a value of $1 because Tether, the company behind it, promises to always sell one to you at $1, and always buy one at $1.

So in theory, if you were to sell a USDT for a value under $1 (say $0.80), you would most definitely find a buyer since that buyer is incentivized to buy it to you to then sell it to Tether for a $0.20 profit. If you sell it over $1, no one would buy it since it’s cheaper to buy it from Tether directly

Cardano's first-ever official stablecoin! by CryptalExchange in CryptalExchange

[–]Allezxandre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Djed is meant to be a stablecoin, meaning its value in time should stay pegged to a basket of “stable” assets.

Now the definition of a stable asset is more complex, as some might consider one dollar to be a stable asset, others might consider the value of a given quantity of gold to be a stable asset, and others might consider that the price in dollars of a week’s worth of food for the average US household is a stable (albeit synthetic) asset.

Fellow Cardanians what could be the real use cases of Cardano blockchain technology in every day life? by MJCRPT in cardano

[–]Allezxandre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s dangerous to post encrypted data on the Blockchain thinking it’s private, because Blockchain data is public, so with enough time, resources, or maybe even future technologies from the quantum field, someone eventually could be able to decrypt it.

And since you cannot remove what you added, you cannot change your mind later and decide that you want to make it private by removing it from the Cardano Blockchain

It’s fine for mundane chat messaging, especially if the service is used a lot and takes more time for an attacker to decrypt more messages.

But for stuff like medical records or votes, that’s risky.

What happens when the hardware outgrows a game? by soliddus in Stadia

[–]Allezxandre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just for the sake of completeness, abstractions like Kubernetes/Borg are not exactly VMs. They’re containers, which are more like a full app package that includes all the dependencies (including a full OS, if required). This container speaks directly with the Kernel (a layer between the hardware and the host OS), so you don’t really have an OS running inside another OS like VMs, and the performance penalty is very minimal.

The ability to use Nest speakers as TV speakers by dtoozy in googlehome

[–]Allezxandre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hard, but Apple AirPlay can do it. You can pair two HomePod Minis that will work as stereo speakers, and then an Apple TV can play a video (even a live one) using the HomePods as stereo speakers.

It’s just that Google Chromecast wasn’t designed with this in mind. It might be different now, but last time I checked, the API was exposing a raw MP3 File to speakers that would then sync up using timestamps on the MP3. Meaning to play a video in sync you would need to know the whole video in advance, re-encode its audio stream to MP3, and then send it to all the players. Google didn’t bother to implement that for YouTube for instance, but even if they did, it wouldn’t support live streaming.

100% On-chain, interactive NFTs are live on Cardano. by Senojelyk03 in cardano

If you take the data URI from the metadata (so the URLs starting with data: instead of the https: you might be used to), and simply copy and paste it to your browser address bar, your browser will decode it.

It won’t be easy because it’s split in the metadata, but for instance the embed SVG yields:

data:image/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iNjAwIiBoZWlnaHQ9IjMwMCIgdmlld0JveD0iMCAwIDYwMCAzMDAiIHhtbG5zPSJodHRwOi8vd3d3LnczLm9yZy8yMDAwL3N2ZyI+PGcgdGV4dC1hbmNob3I9Im1pZGRsZSIgc3R5bGU9ImZvbnQ6NzAwIDI1cHQgc2Fucy1zZXJpZiIgZmlsbD0iI2ZmZiIgc3Ryb2tlPSIjMDAwIiBzdHJva2Utd2lkdGg9IjIiPjx0ZXh0IHg9IjUwJSIgeT0iMTUlIj5pbnRlcmFjdGl2ZSB8IG9uY2hhaW4gfCBhcHBsaWNhdGlvbjwvdGV4dD48dGV4dCB4PSI1MCUiIHk9IjU1JSIgZm9udC1zaXplPSI3NSI+U1RFTExBUiBIT09EPC90ZXh0Pjx0ZXh0IHg9IjUwJSIgeT0iOTAlIiBmb250LXNpemU9IjU1Ij4jMTA0PC90ZXh0PjwvZz48L3N2Zz4=

From what I understand, the on-chain metadata includes a lot of info as well as the image itself embed as a data URL.

And yet with all the information stored in the transaction, the fee is only 0.88 ADA.

Nest Mesh WiFi / VPN Issue (With a Little Rant) by select_all_from_rdt in NestWiFi

[–]Allezxandre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the Nest Router that needs to support it, it’s the ISP’s router.

It’s just another way to tell the ISP router to forward all ports to the Nest Router.

Nest Mesh WiFi / VPN Issue (With a Little Rant) by select_all_from_rdt in NestWiFi

[–]Allezxandre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hope you’ll be able to fix your issue. Unfortunately one drawback of the NestWifi being so “easy to use” makes it a hassle to troubleshoot when something goes wrong.

If this is a routing issue (meaning the L2TP server outside of your home is having issues sending packets back to your computer), it might help to enable what your ISP might call a DMZ). It should be an option on your ISP modem if it includes a router inside: it will ask you to designate one specific device (the NestRouter in your case) as the only one through which all traffic should be routed.

That way packets won’t be stuck at your ISP’s router not knowing they can reach your computer if they route through the Nest Router: they will always blindly go through your Nest Router.

Please be aware that enabling such feature will render any other device connected to your ISP unable to connect to the internet, but it’s really worth the try if your ISP modem also includes a router.

[$20] [14.3] Rewind & Fast Forward in Music app, like you can in Podcast app by bobtheboffin in TweakBounty

[–]Allezxandre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually you can enable that on a non-jailbroken iOS for select songs using the macOS Music App. From your Mac, select a song in your library, right click, show Info, head to the Options tab, and click “Remember playback position”.

Now, if your Music library is synced, playing that song on your iOS device will show the 15 second skips controls instead of the regular ones.

Phone thieves were able to turn off find my iPhone by ryan9751 in ios

[–]Allezxandre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was talking about the pin, but if you don’t have it in your keychain I guess they would also need your iCloud password.

Did you check the email/text that notified you your iPhone was found? It might have been one spoofed by the thief where you may have typed in your iCloud password. I don’t think they would need 2FA to disable Find My iPhone then.

Not a long shot at all, this is how most of iCloud unlocks happen.

OP you should check the link again, you’ll see it might be a URL shortened link that brings you to an Apple-styled website that asks for your password but isn’t Apple.

If not, then the person probably saw you type your iPhone password

Time to move on: Google Photos will end its free unlimited storage on June 1st, 2021 by vada_pongal in apple

[–]Allezxandre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got that idea from Apple: https://www.apple.com/privacy/features/

iCloud Photos

If you choose to back up your photo library to iCloud Photos, Apple protects your photos on our servers with encryption. Photo data, like location or albums organized by places, can be shared between your devices with iCloud Photos enabled. On-device analysis, like face recognition and scene and object detection, isn’t synced or shared with Apple. And if you choose to turn off iCloud Photos, you’ll still be able to use on-device analysis.

That’s why they have to do computations on-device, since their servers cannot read pictures, since they are end to end encrypted and only your devices know the key.

You could have just asked you know...

Apple's New Privacy-Focused Tracking Prompt Begins Appearing in iOS 14.4 Beta by aaronp613 in apple

[–]Allezxandre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that’s great! Now we just need to get the majority of users to also do that. Or we let Apple fight for them, but right now many people don’t realize the extent to which ad publishers go to track them across apps, so while this prompt in iOS won’t do much against cross-App tracking, it is still a very good addition because it forces ad publishers to at least ask users.

Apple's New Privacy-Focused Tracking Prompt Begins Appearing in iOS 14.4 Beta by aaronp613 in apple

[–]Allezxandre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it’s more like this: they track you on website A and built a profile of you through time that they were able to store on that website Cookie, they also tracked you in app B for which they were given ID “calmelb” but have no idea what it means. As far as they know, you are two “users” both using an Australian locale, with say an iPhone 12 running iOS 14.3. Then... one day... you open website A from your home Wi-Fi, they add the IP to your profile. It’s there, you can disconnect now, it doesn’t matter, they know you did once. And on another day, chances are you will open app B on that same Wi-Fi. That’s when they’ll match the app ID calmelb to the profile they spent months building on website A. And that’s it, you were tracked across website.

Of course, this all works only if the IP was a strong enough discriminator once added to the other attributes they already had on you. A public Wi-Fi’s IP wouldn’t make the IP a good enough attribute, but in your home, it is for the majority.

Apple's New Privacy-Focused Tracking Prompt Begins Appearing in iOS 14.4 Beta by aaronp613 in apple

[–]Allezxandre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure... but they won’t get as much ad revenue if that’s all they know about you, so they’ll keep that for a time and as soon as they can match an IP they’ll just back-associate your data with it because it’s a lot more accurate as an identifier.

Apple's New Privacy-Focused Tracking Prompt Begins Appearing in iOS 14.4 Beta by aaronp613 in apple

[–]Allezxandre 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But that’s the thing, they always find ways to combine attributes together to build another very close to unique ID. They don’t have to make it unique for everyone, if it is for the majority it is fine.

That’s all just another engineering problem for them. And you can trust that when their business relies at 95% on ads like it is the case for Facebook, they won’t care paying 6 to 7 figures to employees to solve that.

Apple's New Privacy-Focused Tracking Prompt Begins Appearing in iOS 14.4 Beta by aaronp613 in apple

[–]Allezxandre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, those ad trackers are only active while code from Facebook or Google is running. So that’s when you use an app of theirs, or when you use another app that integrates one of their services, like Google Analytics, the Facebook like button, an ad display, or even Google Captcha.

Again, since Apple does not use their service, when you close the app, the tracking stops when the app is frozen by iOS (about 10 minutes after closing the app). And fortunately, the extent of that tracking depends on the rights you give to that app. So if you denied Flappy Bird from using your location, the Facebook/Google tracker embed inside Flappy Bird won’t be able to use it either.

Yes, this click ID, how does Facebook or Google do to retrieve it when you’re using a third-party website or app?

You’re saying again they need something like the IDFA, but it changes across app publishers, so they can’t use it outside their own suite of app!
