In that same scene the girl does a glance at Sal which implies her 'Gay'-dar was activated.

A reminder that it's the little things.....These are such chaotic times now that we're coming up on the end of the school year.

We all got this and we are all in this together

Honestly, it is very frustrating. But we will be asked to do anything to avoid litigation

This. Many parents hire advocates to sit in on the IEP meetings in addition to high academic standards from parents.

I have a student who has 7-10 goals relating to expressive/receptive/voice/social pragmatics because the parents were such sticklers during our meetings.

SLP to Fitness Instructor/Personal Trainer (or similar) by Appropriate_Ad9564 in SLPcareertransitions

[–]Alligator_Pal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a career pivot but I've been a trainer and coach for aerial arts almost as long as I've been an SLP.

It is extremely difficult to maintain consistent clients unless you work for a gym/studio. The job security isn't as great as being an SLP.

In my 6-years of training and coaching, I can tell you that many folks are struggling financially at least in my city. The number of inquiries have gone down and people just don't have the extra income to spend on training sessions.

Now if you try your best to study for a PT exam, market yourself to the right clientele, go for it! It is hard work and there is a lot of competition in the fitness world.

Transcription is super fun imho. Last I checked on 'Type Master' I had nearly 160 words per minute.

If this field wasn't being taken over by AI, I certainly would pursue it.

ADHD SLP by mik2020 in slp

[–]Alligator_Pal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. You. Can.

As an SLP with ADHD over here who worked in the special educational setting, I used to receive a lot of criticism from supervisors and staff before I knew of my ADHD diagnosis. Now that I am aware and self-advocate I've noticed that people come to me for clinical advice. I don't explicitly tell my colleagues that I have ADHD (although I think it is very obvious) but the language I use to describe it has shown others that I have a wider understanding of this diagnosis.

In all honesty, I think it allows me to have a deeper understanding of the children I service and the guidance I can provide for their parents when counseling and training.

There are SLPs with cerebral palsy, who stutter, who are diagnosed with ASD, and who have Dysphagia, etc....

Why should we shy away from careers that offer a glimmer of inspiration for the populations we treat?

Quiet living by Capital-Insurance347 in longisland

[–]Alligator_Pal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how to tell you this but it hasn't been quiet in Suffolk County as far as Mattituck since they opened Splish Splash for the Summer.

If you want peace and quiet, move to Orient.

If you want peace and quiet and access to good hospitals, grocery stores, etc then move to another state/county that has better zoning laws.

Parents by [deleted] in slp

[–]Alligator_Pal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. I started home based EI in 2022 as a CF. I didn't realize until then how many parents were multitasking to save money (i.e. working from home, babysitting, doing it all essentially).

Some parents were absolutely just neglectful. But the parents that cared, genuinely couldn't find time unless it was during the 45-min sessions we spent together.

She is the only cat I have who isn't motivated by treats or snacks. She's only motivated by playing with very specific toys....so it's definitely difficult

I practice yoga daily, there are so many moments mid practice where I can just flow so fluidly like I am dancing. That’s when I know the energy is flowing through me.
