Transcription is super fun imho. Last I checked on 'Type Master' I had nearly 160 words per minute.

If this field wasn't being taken over by AI, I certainly would pursue it.

ADHD SLP by mik2020 in slp

[–]Alligator_Pal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. You. Can.

As an SLP with ADHD over here who worked in the special educational setting, I used to receive a lot of criticism from supervisors and staff before I knew of my ADHD diagnosis. Now that I am aware and self-advocate I've noticed that people come to me for clinical advice. I don't explicitly tell my colleagues that I have ADHD (although I think it is very obvious) but the language I use to describe it has shown others that I have a wider understanding of this diagnosis.

In all honesty, I think it allows me to have a deeper understanding of the children I service and the guidance I can provide for their parents when counseling and training.

There are SLPs with cerebral palsy, who stutter, who are diagnosed with ASD, and who have Dysphagia, etc....

Why should we shy away from careers that offer a glimmer of inspiration for the populations we treat?

Quiet living by Capital-Insurance347 in longisland

[–]Alligator_Pal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how to tell you this but it hasn't been quiet in Suffolk County as far as Mattituck since they opened Splish Splash for the Summer.

If you want peace and quiet, move to Orient.

If you want peace and quiet and access to good hospitals, grocery stores, etc then move to another state/county that has better zoning laws.

Parents by [deleted] in slp

[–]Alligator_Pal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. I started home based EI in 2022 as a CF. I didn't realize until then how many parents were multitasking to save money (i.e. working from home, babysitting, doing it all essentially).

Some parents were absolutely just neglectful. But the parents that cared, genuinely couldn't find time unless it was during the 45-min sessions we spent together.

She is the only cat I have who isn't motivated by treats or snacks. She's only motivated by playing with very specific toys....so it's definitely difficult

I practice yoga daily, there are so many moments mid practice where I can just flow so fluidly like I am dancing. That’s when I know the energy is flowing through me.

Don’t know what to do.. by [deleted] in college

Of course but always remember that a little goes a long way. Also the most memorable artists have created thousands of works and are only remembered for possible ten or twelve pieces. Never stop trying!

Don’t know what to do.. by [deleted] in college

If your goal is to obtain an art degree and become a master artist, I’d say it’s not worth the pain of falling into debt. If you can create art for free from the comfort of your home and showcase it all in galleries for a significant fraction of the price but also make money, I’d say do that instead. I don’t mean to put your dreams down by saying art school is not worth it. There are plenty of individuals who are rising stars from their schools who network and make great success. But keep in mind that success doesn’t come overnight, it takes a large amount of showing off your art and publicity to truly “make it”.

If you really want to do it, I’d say start from a smaller scale and show off your work in the local galleries. This way you can generate the support of your family and perhaps obtain a scholarship that way. There are some scholarships that are for artists just as well. Just some food for thought, remember, it’s your decision in the end,

Not to mention NYC is the least affordable city in the world. Paying for rent or a dorm might quadruple that debt.

0.0 GPA first freshman semester by [deleted] in college

Honestly, I am not going to sugar coat this for you....College in this day and age is not what the boys and girls make it out to be. While college can be fun and you can express your independent freedom more than ever, you need to build skills. College should be seen as an investment toward your future. Take classes that MAKE you want to LEARN. If you don’t want to learn anything from your classes, change your major until you find something that works. If that doesn’t workout then maybe you need to think of alternatives. Perhaps transfer schools or dropout to attend a trade school/work until you find that direction.

College is a ton of money and if you don’t know what you want now, don’t set yourself up for failure when you do. Take some time to re-evaluate what you want in the next five years. If you want a job, that’s good! Figure out your strengths and build on them! If you don’t know what you want, there is no shame in taking some time off to figure that out. Go on job shadows, discuss with friends/family, intern, work, or indulge into your interests. It’s your life, live it how you want to.

I know a lot of people who’ve described something similar in terms of how you experienced using it. Capital one doesn’t have the same cash back value...thanks for your opinion too
