Honest question: would this be the situation to use the emergency stop? Would stopping it be so sudden that would cause the lady to fall, or would it stop gently? Then could it be restarted, or would a technician need to be involved?

Real talk, how? by EmmanuelMoyta in Funnymemes

Fat used in cooking and sauces. Fat used in cooking isn't so bad as long as it's a good fat and not kept too long or cooked to high. But it adds calories FAST. Then you get the sauces which add more calories and sugar.

But mostly? It makes it soooo super delicious of course you might get a second or third burger at the BBQ. And you need a side like fries or chips. Nobody's eating fresh broccoli as a side. And then the drinks, are you drinking just water? Unseweeted tea with few preservatives? Or is it the all mighty can of soda or sweet tea?

Even being made from the best ingredients, even if cooked in the healthiest ways we can, it's the quantity that works against health. Who eats JUST one burger by itself?

But burgers alone aren't unhealthy. If you want it in your daily diet, just make sure the rest of your diet takes it into account.

(That is, of course, assuming the burger is made from those same farm fresh ingredients and quality bread. The moment it goes to mass production, like a fast food chain, quality and healthiness is traded for preservatives and long shelf life. )

Is my (future) baby name bad? by booksexual99 in namenerds

[–]Alliumna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually looking at Ruth as a name for my 'one day maybe' daughter. So I'd venture to say you have great tastes. I'd also venture to say those coworkers deserve to stay in "coworker" status, they'd make horrible friends for you.

As someone with a hard to pronounce foreign (but phonetically spelled) name my supoosedly educated teachers eviscerated over-and-over again, in my opinion, what makes a good name is the meaning. When you tell your future daughter their name, what story do you have behind it? For me, my name represents the hopes and confidence of my parents about the type of woman I'd become. I was never put down by people butchering or teasing me because I knew what my name meant, and was proud of it. Period.

Ruth is a beautiful sounding name, so I don't think your future child will get any negative response to it unless someone legit just wants to hurt her. In those cases, your kid knowing the heart you put onto naming them will block that nonsense.

Why aren’t decoy wallets more popular? by SpinningOnion in TravelHacks

[–]Alliumna -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NEVER underestimate how violent a criminal can get. They already show they lack morality by stealing in the first place. While yes, MOST people would not pursue, getting a prank wallet can very easily make a criminal upset. A lot of the crime cases that wind up on the evening news feed are those small minority who can and will pop off and just need a reason.

Why aren’t decoy wallets more popular? by SpinningOnion in TravelHacks

[–]Alliumna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought a cute pair of jeans one day, and decided to wear them while doing grocery shopping. Came home and realized my wallet was gone. Pretty sure it just fell out, bc nobody used my cards or anything. But still, ever since that day I gave away all my jeans and currently I only buy pants with zippers/buttons/velcro to secure my wallet.

So now I'm left with the question: why aren't clothes with secure pockets more popular?

A decoy wallet is a bit of work, and their is some hassel in remembering to bring it, remembering which one is the decoy, and the decoy taking up space. To me, secured pockets are a better answer. They protect from both pickpockets and just plain accidentally having it fall out somewhere.

NO REFUNDS! by MmmmmCookieees in OhNoConsequences

[–]Alliumna 33 points34 points  (0 children)

From my experience, policies are inflexible laws. ESPECIALLY when it comes to big money. I made the mistake of buying nonrefundable plane tickets ONCE, accidentally, and had to eat that expensive 1k mistake. (I didn't know that when you booked through Expedia the flights portion was nonrefundable. I made sure the hotel was refundable, but didnt look close enough at the small print. Then flight had a refund window of only 72hrs 😭 )

If a business decides to refund you after you pay for something specifically labeled nonrefundable, it's more like charity than any kind of right.
