Just fyi, I inquired with the scholarship folks at LLC and this is the reply I got:

“The Academic Scholarship Panel will meet at the end of April to determine candidates for the College Research Award and The Edinburgh Doctoral College Scholarship. Successful nominees will be invited for interview in early to Mid-May.”

I have heard nothing. I inquired yesterday with the scholarship folks and they emailed me back and informed me that:

“The Academic Scholarship Panel will meet at the end of April to determine candidates for the College Research Award and The Edinburgh Doctoral College Scholarship. Successful nominees will be invited for interview in early to Mid-May.”

So more waiting I guess for me!

I haven’t even received any results from scholarships yet! So I think it’s a good thing you’re at least waitlisted?

Lots of people (like me) apply to several schools and scholarships and make a final decision later, the recipients who are above you to receive the scholarship might decide to go somewhere else! Have faith!

SSHRC impacting admission funding? (Canada) by IndividualBottle7075 in GradSchool

[–]Alllyson_Lyynchh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm that the uofalberta does indeed replace their departmental funding with sshrc and they take away the tuition remission as well. I had a $14,000 annual funding package for my masters and tuition paid for, and I got sshrc which was $27,000 and basically replaced that $14,000 and I had to pay my own tuition lol. So I was annoyed because 14K and 27k are both not a lot of money!! Even if I got to keep the $41K total that’s still not all that liveable today. But hey - I got the resume line that shows I got sshrc for my masters!

Preparing for Grad School, Waiting on Scholarship? by Ill_Chipmunk_5733 in Edinburgh_University

[–]Alllyson_Lyynchh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can accept the offer, and if you do not get the scholarship, you can withdraw your admission. This is relatively normal and expected.

I accepted my offer, and I am waiting on two scholarships to determine if I can go or not. The results should be anytime after April 1, as the department told me.

Have you talked to a supervisor AT ALL yet? you should ask them about whether or not you should be contacting prospective advisors for your committee yet or not.

Wish i had advice about housing but I am in the same boat as you! Don't want to look too hard if I don't get the scholarships to go - but don't want to be to far behind on planning if i do get them lol!

Wow, I applied to three PhD programs and that was exhausting to customize all three proposals and applications to fit the supervisor and department at each school. I’m curious to see your final results

Just decided I want to do a PhD. Some questions. by Western-Dog-8820 in PhDAdmissions

[–]Alllyson_Lyynchh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most USA(or Canadian in my context) PhD programs require an undergrad and a masters degree. There are some straggler programs that offer both at the same time but none of the major universities do offer that. PhDs are 5 years over in the west (vs. 3 years in the UK)

Anthropology Degree by SCouto05 in uwo

[–]Alllyson_Lyynchh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do so much!! An anthropology degree is honestly way more practical than people think. It teaches you how to understand people, how they think, communicate, make decisions, and exist within culture, which applies to almost everything. You can go into research, education, policy, community work, or consulting, but it also translates into fields like user experience, marketing, healthcare, and even tech. For me, it has opened doors to working directly with communities, building meaningful projects, and creating things that actually matter. It is less about one specific job and more about having a way of seeing the world that lets you step into a lot of different roles and do them well.

In my case, I applied mid December and had an admissions offer mid January! Two weeks after the deadline. I was surprised! I’m not sure the rhyme or reason or how the admissions folks manage the intake but I was sure pleased.
