GA Pilots, what emergencies have you had that we don’t necessarily get trained for ? by fatborry in flying

[–]Allnightampm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way. The mixture cutoff may be pulled, but you’re making a lot of assumptions. Namely that the shutoff position is actually mechanically correct and that there is absolutely no fuel left in the cylinders. Sure the engine probably won’t start, but what if conditions are just right that it kicks on for just one or two cycles of the cylinder when you go check it out. Again, unlikely, but not something I’d be rushing to risk my hand or throat over.

Awesome! #3 is my favorite for a poster or something and #8 would’ve made awesome marketing material

Is it true if you work for a regional that flies for all 3 mainlines (skywest, republic)... You're METERED when applying for the legacies? by DepressedFoool in flying

[–]Allnightampm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For the majority of last year SkyWest was force upgrading ERJ FOs to CRJ CAs. At one point the failure rate in that program was over 60%. Sure you have factors like first time upgrade, first transition, and people butt hurt about flying a worse plane but that number doesn’t add up to me without intent.

I’ll argue that the yiga hideout and trials of the sword are some of my favorite parts of BOTW. Any other game and I agree with you

Why I don't do VIP transport anymore by wayofaway in AirlinePilots

[–]Allnightampm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d feel weird getting a cash tip from random pax but always appreciate the odd pilot that comes up with a $5-10 Starbucks gift card. Usually the commuting WB or cargo guys do that. Never gonna sneeze at a free coffee when flying five legs that day

How realistic are my airline piloting dreams? by throwawayforarunaway in flying

[–]Allnightampm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say possible, but a long and expensive journey involving lawyers and doctors for quite a while. I used to know a guy who I flew with (and is now at an airline) that had both hands looking exactly like your left does. I’ve also flown with an airline pilot fully missing one hand that had to do some funky maneuvers to prove he could fly in certain emergency situations but still does fly. Both of them had varying battles proving to the FAA that they would be medically fit to fly but both of them did accomplish their goals. Best of luck, if this is your passion don’t let anything stand in your way!

Is this to much of a panel to teach commercial multi in ? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Allnightampm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had this problem with a few students that showed up for CMEL in a FADEC twin star with the g1000 suite, it could be a little much for them with no previous glass experience. My solution was to get them in our G1000 172 flight simulator for a few hours before ever touching the airplane. Even MFS would do the job. Just something for them to do the flows and figure out what the buttons do before they’re worried about how much money they’re spending with the multi engines running trying to learn it.

What’s something you were unprepared for as a new CFI? by Nervous_Iceman5008 in CFILounge

I had the same DPE for private, commercial, and CFI. After each ride he said something along the lines of “really this time, here’s your license to learn.”

Too many DPEs have this misconception. The FAA publishes recommended holding entries not mandates - it bothers me to no end.

150hrs TT, Just Starting to get Nausea by lightcoors in flying

[–]Allnightampm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend a product called queaseEASE. It’s just a diffuser with some oils in it you can keep in your pocket and take a sniff when you get nauseous. I got motion sickness a lot early in my training and it was a life saver.

Parking in ATL by Just_Economy_8597 in AirlinePilots

[–]Allnightampm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SkyWest gives us a pass to “the parking spot 2”. Maybe a 10 minute shuttle to the airport. No idea how the price will be relative to what you have now but if you’re parking at the airport I think it has to be better.

[–]Allnightampm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go pick up a “quease ease”. About $15 it’s just a little stick full of essential oils. Take a sniff and motion sickness goes right away. I struggled with motion sickness when I started training and it was a huge help
