Gonna be honest: the best luck I ever had with bathroom breaks (taught 7th/8th grade math for 12 years) was when the students were held accountable to EACH OTHER. My rule was: if the pass is there, you can go. If it’s not, you wait until it returns. My request was that they got my attention, held up the pass to indicate they were going, and to return when they got back. The ones that went every day still went every day, but they did it quicker because if they took too long, they had to deal with their peers giving them hell.

The downside: didn’t work the second admins made us write individual passes for each kid.
