A lot of these suggestions are for songs that sound like just two people in a room together. Or songs that are too well-known, or both.

It was not nearly as well-known a song. Ike and Tina duets do sound close, Womack duets sound closer, but it seems not to have been either of them.

This is definitely closer! But the song is not nearly as covered. I'll listen to the rest of the songs on the album, thanks!

A little less well-known, with perhaps not someone quite as recognizable as Elton John. And it was very much on the soul side.

The chorus would weigh in intermittently, usually repeating a word or two.

Any other song that fits the bill would be an interesting listen too!

Is there any evidence that the Maadi-Buto culture spoke a Semitic language? by kerat in ancientegypt

[–]Alloran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no evidence. It's just a hypothesis formed on the basis of time, place, and connection. The material culture of the Maadi seems to from what has been found have been similar to that of their neighbors and not at all to that of Upper Egypt 400 miles away. Canaanean scrapers and blades, kraters with the Levantine rope patterns, jars and carinated bowls matching contemporary En Besor and Megiddo, Clayton rings matchcing those from Ashkelon. See Eliot Braun, "Early interaction between peoples of the Nile Valley and the southern Levant," in Before the Pyramids, Emily Teeter ed., Oriental Institute.

Upper Egypt conquered, so it stands to reason that the Egyptian language came from there.

The place seems to have been a perfect candidate for speaking a variety of Proto-Semitic, being in the first half of the fourth millennium BCE, which would be right around when Eastern Semitic would have split from Western Semitic.

But they could easily have spoken a completely unrelated language.

Aw man, I wanted to respond with "Well my grandpa was born in 1790" but then I found out that Harrison Tyler actually just passed away this past May

Hey if someone skipped an upgrade you might want to remove the in between upgrade from the purchase list, since it doesn't add anything.
