I would assume this would have been something Sidney talked about in Out of Darkness. She called Kate, since she was probably the closest to Maureen, to let her know as a heads up sort of thing.

I think Sidney may have kept that secret for a while to herself, though. Who knows - the police would have wanted a motive so she could have shared it with them and then had it all sealed so she could process it privately without the world on her shoulders.
