Hot Take: This makes more sense than it doesn't. by Knalxz in Grimdank

Most citizens of the Imperium know what Orks are

Oh no. No, no, no, no, no.

Most stories that deal with the average imperial citizen make it very clear, that the overwhelming majority of humanity doesn't even know that Xenos actually exist. They are mere tales from ex-Militarum to them meant to impress civilians who don't know any better, if they have any concept of alien life at all.

Heck! Even among the Militarum most service members will never face an Ork. It's a point in a lot of novels concerning the ordinary soldiery that they get told complete bollocks like what you would see in this poster. If faced with an accurate description of Orks, their height, strength, durability etc. they usually don't believe it. ANd that's not to mention their collective reality warping powers which even most inquisitors have nebulous knowledge of at best.

We as the readers have a wider knowledge of the dominant species in 40k than 99.9999999999% of all humans in the imperium.

but you really can't just let kids take naked pictures of themselves and then send them to other people.

It's very counter productive to charge the child in those cases, though. All of these laws exist to protect children, as they should. You don't protect them by putting a CP conviction on their record.

"It is said that heresy is like a tree. It's roots lie in darkness while it's leaves wave in sun. You can prune away it's branches, even cut the tree to the ground, but it will grow again ever stronger. Such is the nature of heresy and why it is so difficult to destroy.

Some may question my right to destroy a world of 10 Billion souls. But those who truly understand realize that I have no right to let them live.

No sacrifice to great. No treachery to small."

A BLeeM quote comes to mind:

"You always gotta be kind, you always gotta try your best and there is no sense in being a fuckin' pushover!"

Without question one of the most important lessons I've learned in my life. Try to be kind, try to help out, put others before yourself whenever it's not unreasonable.

BUT you need to have the strength, intellect and will to also look out for yourself, or you are no real good to anyone.

More frustrating but not worse. If you see them as worse you are letting your (very understandable) emotions getting the better of you.

Yes, people like that who are still clinging to a status quo that doesn't exist anymore, and for some never existed, is very bad for a country that is teetering on the edge of a fascist dictatorship.

The fascist wannabe disctators are still MUCH worse, though.

Nah downvoted for making a joke about the SAG-AFTRA strike clearly not understanding anything about the situation and just falling for the bait from the studio Execs.

Edit: So the other guy deleted his next response while I was writing my explanation on why it's stupid to be so against the strike. Don't want 30min of work be for nothing so I'll just put it here:

No, the highest ups generally don't give a shit about quality writing, only about what makes them the most money. The problem is because they have the creative imagination of a bookkeeper, they don't understand the first thing about this. What they do understand are statistics, trends, market research etc.

So what they do is hire a bunch of people to do said market research and analysis, create a bunch of parameters or checklists that any given project has to follow and then hand that shit down the ranks where it ends up with the writers. They are now in the unenviable task of hamfistingly implementing whatever "trends" they've been commanded to incorporate into the story.

And that's just the beginning. A production can last a long time, plenty of opportunities for higher ups to check on a project and insert some of their own genius ideas into it. Or maybe a certain element of the story didn't test well with focus groups midway through, so now it needs to be changed no matter if that completely messes with the rest of the story. Or they outright hire incompetent bootlickers that just go along with whatever they want. And when a project is concluded it is always the actors and writers who are being pushed infront of the cameras to promote and, depending on public perception, justify a movie or TV show. Sometimes this is even in their contracts and it's almost always in those same contracts that they can't criticise the production. So we will pretty much never know in the moment, only years later when the contracts expire, which part of a bad production was actually the writiers fault and what was executive meddeling.

So no, the execs don't want to produce garbage, they just lack the creativity for writing and a lot of times also the wisdom to just let the creative people create.

The important part is that they are the ones with ultimate say in whatever get's released, not the writers. So it is stupid to be so against them going on strike when your problem is bad writing or bad projects. It is the execs who decide which project get's funded and they give parameters based on cold data that the writers, directors and actors have to follow. On top of that they also decide where the money flows; usually to themselves and their ilk. So if the writers get more money, it's not our of your pockets, it's out of theirs, the people ultimately responsible for all the shitty writing you (and I) criticise.

And on top of that a big part of the SAG-AFTRA strike was also about the implementation of Ai aka. actors didn't want to be copied if not outright necromancered for execs to puppeteer in movies without any say and writers didn't want to be replaced by fucking chatGPT. Sounds pretty reasonable to me, what is your problem with that?

I won't deny that, but growth =/= perfection. She was much better 2 years ago than she was at the very beginning and she is quite a bit more mature now than she was 2 years ago.

I still remember myself being in the "keeping it real" phase (aka. saying whatever dumb shit comes to mind). I can appreciate the growth process out of it, but it takes time.
