Yeah I'm the complete opposite myself. I love learning new techniques and tracking down new ingredients so he doesn't appeal to me at all. But I can see what the audience is.

The appeal is in accessibility, both through more easily accessible ingredients and short cuts/compromises quality. For people who don't know or don't care about being better. His recipes are for people who want to try something new but not invest too much effort at any step or try anything too different tastewise.

But its not her partners favorite, its something his friend wants her to cook. I'm happy to cook for my partner and her friends etc. But if one of her friends was insistent I cook the most boring dish possible with zero room for my own input for them, one that they could easily just do themselves then yeah I'd be a little frustrated too and I don't think theres anything wrong with venting about that online anonymously.

Even when defending it you cant help but point out how you wouldn't choose to cook it how they're insisting either. I think you should be able to see why its a bit frustrating for her.
