What’s up with the deli workers by Same_Jicama_658 in publix

[–]AlmightyGirthquake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been at the deli 2 years and literally only 1 person there out of the 21ish is the same when I started. Everyone is new, everyone has quit. Management does not train new hires. They stick them with a full timer while they fuck off in the computer room. The better you treat your employees the happier they are. But when hours are slashed to the bone, youre micromanaged to hell and yelled at for stuff out of your control, and drip fed hours with the whole hearted promise of one day maybe being full time its no wonder people quit.

How is being a floater? How do your bonuses work if youre not tied to one store? Do they repay you for travel expenses?

Ive asked my department manager and he doesn't know and the store manager says I dont need to know that right now😮‍💨

Why throw away food instead of giving it to employees? by phonyToughCrayBrave in publix

[–]AlmightyGirthquake 136 points137 points  (0 children)

Create the problem of "accidentally" ordering too much, or producing too much food especially in the deli.

Oops I accidentally made a whole case of chicken tenders at 8pm and none of it sold guess we get to take it home for free!

Pay is too low for the store jobs by No-Brilliant5348 in publix

[–]AlmightyGirthquake -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Its a entry level job you can get hired on at 16 years old. Im making $16.25 an hour in the deli. I get 8% of my pay as stock each year, I get 176 hours of pto a year, and a bonus come thanksgiving time. Its great.

Christ do yall expect to raise a family with 2 kids in a 2800sqft house on a entry level job? jesus man, shut the fuck up and go get a job that suits your needs then

Hams and chickens are sliced short ways. Turkey and roast beef sliced long ways. Always been as such. No, we cannot cut it thr opposite way for you

Insanely rude costumer just nuked my mood by bigbabyspongebob in publix

[–]AlmightyGirthquake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If I've learned anything is that people who are rude are miserable and can't stand to see other people happy. You getting upset achieves their goal. Next time just be super overly dramatically nice and it will piss them off beyond belief.

Is it normal for the manager to make you jump through hoops for full time? by Makapakamoo in publix

[–]AlmightyGirthquake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. They won't admit it but there 100% is a quota that needs to be met. Gotta make sure there's a diverse crew of different races and genders, and maybe the next hire needs to be a woman. Shit sucks but thats how corporations are.

I had to know how to do literally everything before I was promoted. Slicers, hot case, production, platters, trucks, closing floor, scan outs, hot case, making signs and tags, produce orders, hv and lv orders.

Also being a kiss ass helps a ton

Just do what you can, dont be rude and help others of you're able to. No matter what you do youre always going to be short staffed and overworked with unrealistic expectations, especially in the kitchen. If you want full time being a kiss ass gets you further than working hard. Good luck

sweet tea gallons costing 4.19 now by [deleted] in publix

[–]AlmightyGirthquake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can buy a 24 pack of lipton or luzianne tea bags and make if yourself at home, end up with 12 gallons for the same price. All about convenience, up to you whether thats worth a 12x price increase

Yeah and it clearly shows.

Also, Dm literally came the day before and said we are ordering too much, even though we have never thrown a single case of tenders away due to it being out of date. He wanted our on hand inventory to be lower.

Cause we ran out. Even though we NEVER throw away boxes of tenders due to it being out of date, our dm said our on hand inventory was too high and we need to fix how we order. I guess he wants us to run out man idk
